Phew.. I read Ross' mail and I thought .. this man rough.. non-entities in Guyana is a usually a bad thing... but good that it is all cleared up , we are prisoners of language. I just thought it might be useful to table some thoughts, following Ross' comments re Burrokeet and CIS , about my/DevNet's participation in CIS What can CIS expect from DevNet/me? DevNet will find the resources to continue the participation in CIS - so my participation is part of my responsibilities under DevNet since it is part our mission to support and facilitate initiatives like CIS. We plan to have access to a web server and will offer free space for the website for example, if it is needed. At other levels, we will share info with CIS participants, and also talk about CIS (and the projects) to get exposure for more access to funding and other resources to carry out more projects. DevNet as a registered entity - in Guyana, is also willing to collaborate with any other entity/individual to pull together proposals for funding and would at the least, charge some kind of administration fee for administering the project, or if our involvement is more, doing for doing the activities. We are currently working on a project like this at the moment with a Jamaican NGO and 2 NGOs in the Dominican Republic - a lot of fun trying to pull it all together and work out logistics in terms of money transfers and so on. What do we at DevNet expect from CIS? ----------------------------------- Apart from the 'feel good about working with a good group' and more opportunities for me to eat real doubles.., we would hope to learn about the experiences gained in implementing various IT projects, in participating in such projects when possible, seeing what could be replicated in Guyana, and also the opportunity to share what we are learning here. Formalising the CIS ------------------ I would assume that you would use the Trinidadian legislation when the time comes - decision would be between not-for-profit or company. Maybe Gia would know more about the kinds of registration etc. to create an entity which could open bank accounts? I have had some experience in drafting 'constitutions' and rules so we would be willing to help that way, if I get the information about what is required. I must admit that I am a little confused though - I thought CIS would be a forum or loose network to discuss projects, share experiences, find project partners, etc - formalising this creates a whole different kind of entity. Thanks for reading this far..
