1. IMSA MicroModules are a Blockbuster Hit!
In January 2004, the IMSA 21st Information Fluency project introduced
"IMSA MicroModules " an online teaching and learning package consisting
of short, self-guided lessons that cover a wide range of Internet
topics. Taking only 10 to 20 minutes to complete, the individual modules
can be used by anyone from sixth grade through adult learners. This
highly flexible and portable program enables users to:
* Access a single module to quickly become well versed on a specific
Internet topic.
* Combine modules to facilitate a comprehensive school-based
Information Fluency Program.
* Access an online teacher's guide that helps educators determine
which modules best address local teaching and learning objectives.
* Use Assessment tools that are a first step toward gauging student
knowledge outcomes.
Please Tell Us What You Think About the MicroModules
Please take a moment to let us know what you think by completing the
brief feedback form that appears at the end of each MicroModule. We and
the project's funder, the U. S. Department of Education want to be sure
that the MicroModules are addressing your needs. Your feedback and
suggestions will enable us to improve existing modules, add new modules
and help to ensure continued funding of these services.

2. Register for Free Spring 2004 Semester Workshops
While our Spring 6-week and 12-week courses are now fully enrolled with
great groups of energetic Illinois educators, registration remains open
for a number of 2004 Spring Semester one-day workshops. For a complete
list of workshop opportunities, go to

Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the workshops:
* cover the fundamentals of locating, evaluating and using Internet
resources in a learning environment
* are free to Illinois educators
* offer 7CPDUs for successful workshop completion
* provide free membership to an online community of educators
dedicated to digital information resources for the classroom.
3. IMSA's Dennis O'Connor Recognized as One of Top Ten Online Educators
Walter McKenzie's Surfaquarium.com, Innovative Teaching Newsletter,
recently recognized IMSA's 21CIF Online Instructor Dennis O'Connor as
one of the Top Ten Online Educators in the United States.
This honor is to recognize those educators who are chosen by their peers
as being an inspiration to educators both locally and across the online

4. IMSA Online Programs Recognized in National Publication, School
Library Journal
The IMSA 21CIF project and IMSA Information Resource Center services
were featured in an article entitled "Hardly Rocket Science" in the
current issue of the School Library Journal. The article by Walter
Minkel, Technology Editor for the School Library Journal is on the Role
of School Librarians in Online Learning and School Curriculum.

School Library Journal, the print magazine, and now, School Library
Journal Online, the web site, serve librarians who work with young
people in school and public libraries. The two publications give
librarians indispensable information needed to manage libraries, from
creating high-quality collections to understanding how technology can
assist (or hinder) learning. School Library Journal, founded in 1954,
carries more book reviews and wins more awards for editorial excellence
than any other publication in the field.
5. Join the IMSA 21CIF Team at the Illinois Technology Conference for
Educators February 25 -27.
If you are planning to attend the Illinois Technology Conference for
Educators, February 25 -27 at the Pheasant Run in St. Charles, Illinois,
please join the IMSA 21CIF team at our exhibit booth. We'd love to meet
you in person, learn about your school's information literacy activities
and share information about our free information literacy programs, made
possible through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Our
exhibit times are Wednesday, February 25 - 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.,
Thursday, February 26 - 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Friday, February 27 -
7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
