Would it be helpful to register an independent domain?  It sounds like you
think this would be counter-productive, but it might help to give the Cat an
independent identity, like it used to have.  I would be happy to donate the
registration, if anyone thinks it would help.  Heaven knows that I have had
precious little time to play the games lately, so I certainly don't want to
do any hosting.  But if I can contribute financially by setting up a domain,
I would gladly do that much.

This group has a fair number of grognards and some good history, but it will
take more than a few old-timers to re-energize things.  We need to have a
critical mass of participation to be successful, and that means making it
trivially easy to join the lists, get a game going, read the game archives,
access the game-number generator, and so on.  A viable link to the
Dipknights will also help.  There was an active Dipknight site and community
when I joined the Cat, and it helped convince me that the Cat was a good
place to be.

Most important of all, as has been mentioned, we need to be findable.  I
just tried, and unless you know exactly what to look for, you will only get
some historical references and a few broken links.  Once we get a new site
up and running, we need to make an effort to get the old links from places
like The Pouch, Diplomiscellany, etc. repaired, and we'll need to create new
links via Wikipedia, Dipworld, or wherever you get by doing a web search for
Diplomacy.
