Related: Problems with dxmci.dll? Crash in kernel32.dll?

Hi, this is for those people who reported problems with dxmci.dll, namely a 
crash when closing TTD.

Since the crash still happens in beta 5, I'd like to try and fix it.  It's 
made a bit harder by the fact that I can't reproduce it on my 
computer...  so I need your help.

If you have this problem (or if you had it and got rid of dxmci.dll), 
please help me fix the bug by following these steps.  If you don't feel 
comfortable doing this testing, feel free to not do it of course.

0) Fill in your details here:

Operating System:
CPU:
DirectX version: (e.g. 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 ... if you know it)
Kernel32.dll version:
Do you have a USB mouse:
Do you have a virus checker, and if so, which one:

(To find the Kernel32.dll version, go into c:\windows\system, and 
right-click on kernel32.dll, then open the "Version" tab and write down the 
file version at the top.)

1) Download dxmci_log.zip from the TT Forums, and unzip it into your TTD 
folder: http://tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=101714#101714

This is a debugging version that will write a log file of everything that 
happens.

2) Run TTD.  Take note of whether you can hear the music.  If not, go into 
the ttconfig program and choose the appropriate music setting.

3) Without even starting or loading a game, quit TTD.  You'll probably see 
the crash message.

4) Now to see if we can reproduce the bug without TTD.  Download 
dxmci_prob.zip from the TT Forums and unzip it into your TTD folder:

These are two programs that copy the code of dxmci.dll, but they only load 
the title music of TTD, play the first 15 seconds of it, and then they shut 
down to hopefully trigger the crash.

5) Run dxmci_prob.exe.  Write down the following:

Did the music play?
Did all (roughly) 15 seconds play?
Did it crash at the end?
If it crashed, please click on the "details" button and copy&paste the 
details of the crash.
6) Repeat with dxmci_prob2.exe:

Did the music play?
Did all (roughly) 15 seconds play?
Did it crash at the end?
If it crashed, please click on the "details" button and copy&paste the 
details of the crash.
7) You will now find a dxmci.log file in your TTD folder.  Please attach it 
too.

8) Send me an email with your answers in steps 0, 5 and 6, along with 
dxmci.log.

I've set the reply-to field of this email to my private address, so just 
hit reply, fill in the questions, and send, to send it as a private email 
off the list.

9) Now you can delete dxmci.dll again, to prevent the crashes until I 
hopefully fix the bug.
