That seems a bit inconsistent with existing mechanisms to protect people
from their own foolishness. Maybe recording contracts should carry a
compulsory Wealth Warning.

I can't see any reason for artists not being allowed to sign away their
rights. If it is advantageous for them to do so, then they should be
allowed to. Otherwise, they have no reason to. I believe that the problem
is not copyright, but a monopoly and poorly informed artists.

Testing it first is a good idea. It may turn out that the system succeeds
so completely as to remove the need for legislation or fails.
