funky. I think this is going to be a hardware support problem. However
-- is it just the backlight? In other words, can you see a faint image
of the desktop? If so, you've got a BIOS issue; if not, it's the video
card / XFree86.

look for the swsusp kernel patch. Seems to be working pretty well for
most people, but I'm a wuss and wait for the versions that my distro
puts out :-)

Sounds like the X server isn't letting go of the hardware when it's
supposed to. Turn off DRI and it'll probably start working (though 3d
games won't).
