The documentation for swsusp says that you must do this. Having a swap
declaration in /etc/fstab is not enough.  This is obvious if you think
about it for a minute. Before the kernel finishes waking up, how would
it have access to a file on the disk within a file system? The swsusp
code reads the disk in raw mode, it doesn't use a file system. The
kernel must be told at boot time to look for a suspend image.
