Hi Jason,

yep, I am having the same problem with my thinkpad A31. Currently I am running 
kernel 2.4.21rc1 + acpi patch for that version which at least displays 
battery state.

Andy, could you please tell us what is wrong with the IBM thinkpads as acpi 
does not work properly? We would appreciate it! Thanks!
