Well, for what it's worth, I just build and installes i2c and lm-sensors
on my M3N and when I try to run prog/detect/sensors-detect I get:

Sorry, no chips were detected.
Either your sensors are not supported, or they are
connected to an I2C bus adapter that we do not support.

Has anyone found a way to send commands to start and stop the fan?

Looks like some dsdt hacking is in order - I know the dsdt I use has
some thermal code patched, and maybe that's the cause for the 60deg
always reporting as such..
