It depends from the kernel u'r using and ur notebook, I mean, the 'acpi4asus' (this is the name of this tool) is included in the kernel 2.4.22, but not in the original kernel 2.4.21. For this last one, u need the 'acpi' patch (IIRC from that dated 20030619) or the original 'acpi4asus' tool from http://sourceforge.net/projects/acpi4asus/.
