As the gtk core maintainer, I think I should weigh in on this....

First, the main reason that xmms has soo many issues is that it is a glib 1 api
application and aRTs, the default sound system in Ark, is a glib 2 api
application, causing some very strange behaviour between the two layers. The
xmms developers know about this issue and are unwilling to port xmms to the
newer, and possibly arguably better glib2 api, since glib1 is all they know and
refuse to move ahead.

Second, yes we are intending to eliminate all glib1/gtk1 applications. The main
reason for this is I am not interested in supporting the newest glib/gtk+ core
and the ancient (over four year old) 1.4 compatibility libraries due to the
extra workload involved. So, this means, if you are running an app that is
gtk1/glib1 only, be prepared in the very near future for it to no longer work
with the packages supplied in the Ark Linux tree.
