Hi,
I had actually compiled kernel from source (for adding other things on
to the kernel), so i really dont know about any issue with rpm file.
But since you say FC5, you must be using grub.conf file found in
/boot/grub/grub.conf
A safe option is to go and change the root= option in the kernel line
For eg:
My grub.conf looks like
#....
# kernel ..... root=/dev/hda6
#
..
..
title OpenMosix Kernel
root (hd0,2)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.26-om-test root=/dev/hda6 ....
initrd ....
The method that I followed is copy whatever line is there in the comment
for root= option and paste it in my kernel's line.
If you had gone for default installation of FC5, then disk druid might
have created logical volumes for the various partitions. I dont know
about logical volume stuff.
For kernel Compilation I still have gcc-2.95.3 as a backup. But i think
the compat-gcc package must do for it.
Regards,
Murali

Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security?
Get stuff done quickly with pre-integrated technology to make your job easier.
Download IBM WebSphere Application Server v.1.0.1 based on Apache Geronimo
