The build process for OO 1.9.x snapshots is very much the same, according to 
the build instructions available on 
http://tools.openoffice.org/index.html#Build.
If you want to give it a try, you'll need at least 3.5 GB of free disk space, 
approx. 6-8 h on an Athlon XP 2000 with 512 MB RAM, and you'll probably have 
to fix some minor quirks.
