after re-burning CD 3 I was able to install all packages of a dRock 2.0.1
workstation target from the official ISOs. Now I have the menu options to
configure X, also, which weren't there after my first install.
However, I still have trouble with X (and some other points, where my
understanding of ROCK is currently insufficient, it seems).
(1) Interactive, semi-automatic X configuration (recommended in Stone).
The tool won't simply start.
(2) Fully automatic X config tool. This one finishes saying that it has
created a file /XF86Config.new, but the file just is not there.
(3) xf86cfg works. When I use this, or when I just copy an XF86Config file
from SuSE 9.1 over to ROCK, the other two tools work, too. Mysterious.
Unfortunately, with the newly created config file I get:

(++) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"
(EE) open /dev/fb/0: No such file or directory
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error: no servers found

Another error message tells me that there's no valid device section for my
ATI card. And yet another one complains about a keyword "InputDevice" being
in the wrong place.
Now that I have a configuration that is proven (as it works on SuSE 9.1 and
Slackware 9.1-current) I thought it should be usable on ROCK too and copied
it over. I configured KDE and kdm in STONE as my default for X session.
Unfotrunately KDE won't run.
The configuration wizard for KDE starts, but every mouse click is
accompanied by opening an error box telling me that the DCOP server is not
running.
I've tried a simple window manager (fvwm2) as an unprivileged user, then,
and in fact it started, but with a ridiculous resolution that has nothing to
do with what I configured and what the previous KDE run, at least, tried to
use. The startup takes endlessly long and the X session only starts after an
error message or two that the global .Xauthority file could not be locked.
Maybe this all has nothing to do with ROCK, but is only a matter of XFree86,
but I haven't had this sort of problem on any distribution I used, so far,
and I am lost a bit now. I'd appreciate any hint how to make it work, or
what to look for.
