RE: Dell2650/Perc 3Di: another victim

I am not in the loop, I am but a JAFO.

There is definitely a pattern. After the first solution was identified
surrounding the cache flush causing a scsi layer timeout, now a previously
hidden issue is poking through. The first problem was solved with one of
either Firmware, or the driver, or turning off write cache, or minimized by
making sure the components are in tip top condition. The secondary issue
that has poked through has resisted duplication, and is more likely to occur
under certain kinds of heavy load when more than one array is involved.

Sans duplication, the theories abound. Does anyone know what a media scan
does to a drive under heavy load? If *anyone* has a simpler set of
conditions to duplicate this issue, please contact Dell Support.

The machine we have that still experiences this issue
is running a raid mirror for the boot disk and a RAID 10
volume for user data.

The RAID 10 volume is the only one that has ever hung.
The mirror stays active.

Just thought i'd mention that if there is any correlation.

Our other servers that do not have issues, (while under lighter load)
are all RAID5.

Although possible this appears to fail quite regularly.  We used to do
the same here: 2 x disks in mirror and the other 3 x disks as volumes.
Under load the machine would get the SCSI hang problem seen by other
folks.  After switching to 3 x disk into RAID5 haven't had the problem
(but performance is awful).
