Indeed, loading firmware using hotplug or udev is undocumented in the
Berlios driver.  I hope this will change soon.

I think you read some wrong documentation.  There are no references to
atmel_fw.pl in the Berlios driver, and no such utility is included.

I guess it's for some other driver.  I don't think the Berlios driver
needs or would need a special utility for loading firmware.

This means that firmware is loaded already.  I guess you are using
firmware compiled into the driver, which is the default in version 0.13.
