Fair enough. What about?
1) Use evms{,n,gui} to...
- Allocate an entirely new storage object with wanted size
- Replace the old one with the new one
- Delete the old one
2) evms_activate; resize2fs /dev/evms/foo
(After the Replace finishes, the volume will be on an object capable of
being bigger but with less of it used. evms_activate reactivates the
volume and chokes on resizing the filesystem, which resize2fs does.)

Nah, it's just really hard. You can run most of the init scripts to stop
daemons manually and kill the rest, leaving mostly just your fork of
ssh, and then copy/unmount/remount. I had to do it once, before LVM.
