  by namenlos (http://freshmeat.net/users/namenlos/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 22:37

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: With A-Gen, one can create static Web photo albums directly from a
directory of pictures. Since the album is static HTML, a Web server is not
needed to view the album from a local medium. The albums create by A-Gen
should be easy to use.

[002] - AIOCP 1.2.071
  by Nicola Asuni (http://freshmeat.net/users/nicolaasuni/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 06:46

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: AIOCP (All In One Control Panel) is a Content Management System
(CMS), a professional all-inclusive solution to completely manage a Web
site or portal through a user-friendly Web-interface. AIOCP is also a
framework for Web application developement and includes e-commerce and
e-business modules. It includes all basic and extra modules: CMS, WYSIWYG
editor, languages, users, menus, forums, news, newsletter, links,
downloads, reviews, awards, chat, polls, calendar, banners, search engine,
statistics, online help, system tools, shell, backup, MIME, whois, ping,
traceroute, MySQL database management, transcoding, custom modules, code
libraries, images, and sounds.

Changes: The interface for product resources was fixed.

[003] - aiSee 2.2.04 (Stable)
  by Schwalex (http://freshmeat.net/users/Schwalex/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 10:53

Database
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: aiSee reads a textual, easy-to-read, and easy-to-learn graph
specification and automatically calculates a customizable graph layout.
This layout is then displayed, and can be printed or interactively
explored. aiSee features 15 basic graph layout algorithms (including
force-directed layout), recursive subgraph nesting, fish-eye views, and an
animation interface. It has been optimized to handle huge graphs
automatically generated by applications (e.g. compilers).

Changes: This release supports exporting a very simple, ASCII-format list
of all nodes and edges of a graph along with their coordinates. When
exporting graphs containing bitmap icons to SVG, it offers the option of
embedding the icons in the output SVG file rather that just referencing
them by their paths. Minor performance and usability improvements have
been made. Numerous bugs have been fixed.

System :: Networking

About: Balance is a simple but powerful generic TCP proxy with round-robin
load balancing and failover mechanisms. Its behaviour can be controlled at
runtime using a simple command line syntax.

Changes: Bugs in channel and group argument parsing were fixed. Error
messages were added in case of rendezvous file permission problems.

[005] - BashDiff 1.22
  by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 10:48

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <&lt+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation.

Changes: This release adds support for Libwebserver 0.5.3 or 0.6.0 when
compiling. You need to recompile if the library is changed. The makefile
has been fixed to enable parallel compilation, like 'make -j3'. A feature
called "here-file" has been added as builtins ('herefile') and as
redirection ('<<<<'). It is the same as "here-document", as in '<<', but
the template is read from file or stdin. This is useful for short
templates, where you only want parameter expansion, command substitution,
and arithmetic expansion, and where BASP (Bash Server Pages) is not
warranted.

  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 04:47

Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CCAPI is a financial application library for Java. CCAPI provides
interfaces for automated stock exchange trading through Cortal Consors. In
addition, CCAPI provides functions to retrieve online quotes from various
data sources, including EUWAX, Consors, Comdirect, and Yahoo!.
Furthermore, CCAPI provides a comprehensive library of technical and
mathematical indicator implementations, like MACD, SMA, EMA, RSI, Williams
%R, Correlation, and more.

Changes: The current release includes several bugfixes, especially for a
compilation bug. As a major feature enhancement a personal logger class
has been added. The logger simply logs requested data into a file and is
about 8 times faster than log4j, but is not as feature-rich.

[007] - CDfs 2.6.12
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 16:00

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
System :: Filesystems

About: CDfs is a file system for Linux systems that `exports' all tracks
and boot images on a CD as normal files. These files can then be mounted
(e.g. for ISO and boot images), copied, played (audio tracks), etc. The
primary goal for developing this file system was to `unlock' information
in old ISO sessions. The file system also allows you to access data on
faulty multi session disks, e.g. disks with multiple single sessions
instead of a multi session.

  by Manuel Lanctôt (http://freshmeat.net/users/Senso/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 22:14

Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: ErisMUD is a MUD/MOO server/engine written in Python and supports
many features: rooms, NPCs, items, player creation, ANSI colors, a help
system, etc. SQLite is used to store the data, so no files are required
for building (unlike LPMUDs). Short and easy internal commands take care
of the development and maintenance. The only things not implemented are
skills, combat, quests, levelling, etc. These are left to users so as to
make sure every MUD using ErisMUD is different.

Changes: A login bug was fixed. Default descriptions when creating
items/NPCs/characters were added to avoid errors. A "kickout" command was
added (and is like an IRC kick). ANSI settings were removed from the
global space.

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: FireStorm/DAO is a Java Code Generator that can import existing
database schemas (from a SQL script or from a live JDBC connection) and
can then generate a complete persistence tier. It generates Java source
code and configuration files that developers would otherwise have to write
by hand, and that is compliant with the Data Access Object (DAO) design
pattern.

Changes: This release generates a complete persistence tier-based JDBC
DAO, EJB, JDO, and Hibernate (new in this release). When generating
Hibernate code (without DAOs), it produces Hibernate persistent classes
and a Hibernate mapping file (*.hbm.xml) for each database table.

[018] - FunctionCheck 1.5.4 (Development)
  by Howard Chu (http://freshmeat.net/users/highlandsun/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 22:12

Software Development

About: FunctionCheck is a profile generator for C/C++ programs. It uses
the gcc '-finstrument-functions' feature to track each function entry and
exit. It computes local and total times in functions, the number of calls,
the average time per call, and function calls. It can also count time spent
in sub-functions not compiled with '-finstrument-functions'. The time
balance between functions is always respected. It also can trace memory
allocations and report on memory leaks, showing the call stack leading up
to the allocation of the leaked blocks.

Changes: The call graph was extended to record the time spent on each
individual call arc, not just the total time in each function. Some minor
fixes were made for 64-bit compatibility.

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: GAMGI (General Atomistic Modelling Graphic Interface) is a program
to build, view, and analyze atomic strucures such as molecules, crystals,
glasses, liquids, etc. It aims to be useful for: the scientific community
working in Atomistic Modelling that needs a graphic interface to build
input data and to view and analyse output data, calculated with Ab-Initio
and Molecular Mechanics programs; the scientific community at large
studying chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, etc., that needs
a graphic interface to view and analyse atomic structural information and
to prepare images for presentations in classes and seminars; teaching
chemistry and physics in secondary schools and universities; science
promotion in schools, exhibitions and science museums.

Changes: Crystallographic planes are now working fine in the reciprocal
space for all Bravais lattices and cell volumes (so, for example, plane
properties can be obtained just clicking over the plane with the mouse).
Several errors in the Rhombus cell volume code have been fixed.

Software Development
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: ghli is GPMI's Highlevel Language Interpreter, developed to operate
under GPMI, though it works as a standalone script interpreter as well. It
features a byte code interpreter with complex instructions for high level
languages, a framework to ease implementing precompilers, a Pascal
precompiler, and an Assembly precompiler. It aims to be small, fast, and
flexible. The number of core instructions are very limited while it offers
a simple interface so the host application can register its own extension
commands easily.

Changes: Pascal scripting is not case sensitive anymore, and pascal-style
for cycle takes expressions instead of constants. Error reporting is
cleaned up so that every routine returns unified runtime errors. Type
casts were in Pascal. For example_app, -- memstat is added, which does
memory usage and runtime statistics. All the memory leaks found so far
were cleaned up.

About: GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific text editor, which was inspired by
both TeX and GNU Emacs. The editor allows you to write structured documents
via a "wysiwyg" and user friendly interface. The program implements high
quality typesetting algorithms and TeX fonts. It is also possible to use
TeXmacs as an interface to computer algebra systems. Finally, TeXmacs
supports the Guile/Scheme extension language, which makes it possible to
adapt the user interface to specific needs, and even to extend the editor.

Changes: The new version implements several new and improved tools for the
presentation mode: tags were added for folding, switching and live
animations, and it is now possible to recursively traverse a document with
hidden components. Furthermore, computer algebra or other scripts can now
be evaluated in an on-the-fly manner and tags for function plotting were
added. The new version finally comes with an interface for Imlib2, so as
to accelerate the rendering of images.

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: hdup is used to back up a filesystem. Features include encryption
of the archive (mcrypt/GnuPG), compression of the archive
(bzip2/gzip/lzop/none), the ability to transfer the archive to a remote
host or restoring from a remote host (with SSH), the ability to split up
archives, and no obscure archive format (it is a normal compressed tar
file).

Changes: This release adds a -P flags which in conjunction with a patch to
 gnu tar enables hdup to create backups which once again include directory
information. Also the build process was changed slightly to fix the
default location of hdup.conf.

About: inewsd fetches full text news stories from Reuters.com via their
RSS interface and then places them in iPod-friendly text files in a
directory you choose (normally $IPOD_MNT_PATH/Notes/News). It can either
do a one-shot mode or run in daemon mode. In both modes, the program will
wait until the target path exists before proceding. In daemon mode, it
will wait (by default) 10 minutes in between updates, then flush the news

About: log4sh is a logging framework for shell scripts that works similar
to the other wonderful logging products available from the Apache Software
Foundataion (eg. log4j, log4perl). Although not as powerful as the others,
it can make the task of adding advanced logging to shell scripts easier,
and has much more power than just using simple "echo" commands throughout.
In addition, it can be configured from a properties file so that scripts in
a production environment do not need to be altered to change the amount of

[056] - SQLgrey 1.6.2
  by Lionel Bouton (http://freshmeat.net/users/GyverLB/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 09:09

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: SQLgrey is a Postfix greylisting policy service with auto-
whitelisting and an SQL database as storage backend. It is based on
postgrey, refining auto-whitelisting and storing whitelists and
connection attempts in a database. Its goal is reducing the amount of spam
reaching user mailboxes.

Changes: Database connections are now destroyed by SQLgrey itself instead
of the DBD driver (to avoid connection leaks with dodgy garbage
collecting). The spec file has been updated to conform to RPM 4 (and now
works on the latest RPM-based distributions). logstat now recognizes the
latest log format. SQLgrey now protects Syslog calls from "%" characters
to avoid ugly errors in the log.

  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 22:08

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
Software Development :: Version Control

About: svk is a decentralized version control system. While Subversion
(svn) aims to take over the CVS user base, svk attempts to take over the
user base of the other version control systems, including people who have
already switched to another version control system, as well as people who
have not yet started using a version control system. It is written in Perl
and uses Subversion's underlying filesystem.

Changes: Various fixes were made, including a segfault correction.

[059] - Sylpheed 2.0.0beta4 (Development)
  by Hiroyuki Yamamoto (http://freshmeat.net/users/hiroy/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 04:57

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many
features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and
multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully
internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be
able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.

Changes: The feature to move folders within the same mailbox was
implemented. The flag changes by manual filtering on IMAP4 folders are now
reflected to IMAP4 server. A warning is displayed on the first run if the
locale encoding is not UTF-8 but the environmental variable
G_FILENAME_ENCODING is not set. A warning is displayed when sending
message if it exceeds the hard line length limit (998 bytes). Other minor
bugs were fixed.

  by Muthu (http://freshmeat.net/users/MuthuKutty/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 04:50

About: Texplore is a type explorer for GObject based libraries. You can
see what signals, properties, and other things are present in each type,
its parents, and its children. It's similar to System.Reflection.Emit from
Mono, only it uses the GObject library's API and introspection capabilites.

Changes: This release updates to 2.6 GTK+ types in types.c, fixes
replicating bugs, and now clears the treemodel every time, instead of
editing it. In menu.c, the About dialog box and image were fixed, and a
pointer bug in ActionEntry was fixed. GNU Auto tools support was added.
In main.c the menu bar is now a fixed size.

About: TkCVS is a cross-platform, TCL/Tk-based GUI for the CVS
configuration management system. It displays the status of the files in
the current working directory, and provides buttons and menus to execute
CVS commands on the selected files. The Module Browser extends CVS with
facilities for a user-friendly listing of modules in the repository.
TkDiff is included for browsing and merging your changes.

Changes: An open file descriptor was fixed. The pop-up dialogs are now
centered on their parent window instead of appearing in the middle of the
screen (or between screens). The Branch Browser can now compare two
versions even if it was invoked from the Module Browser and the file isn't
checked out. The bookmarks stay in alphabetical order. TkDiff 4.1 is
included.

[072] - XINS 1.3.0-alpha2 (Development)
  by Ernst de Haan (http://freshmeat.net/users/znerd/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 04:55

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This release implements SOAP support with WSDL generation. It
improves integration with NetBeans. There is automatic generation of
stubs, automatic generation of test cases for API implementation, and
support for multiple implementations for a single API specification. Java
1.4/5.0-specific language constructs are now supported in the API
implementation code. There is improved logging and various small
enhancements were implemented. Various bugs were fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.

Changes: This release adds JMX-based monitoring and control.

About: ypbind-mt is a multi-threaded implementation of a NIS binding
daemon. ypbind-mt compiles and works on Linux with glibx 2.x (libc6). It
should work on every System with POSIX threads and glibc 2.x. It works
under Linux with libc5 and linuxthreads 0.7.1, but this C library isn't
really thread safe and shouldn't be used with threads.

Changes: An option to specify the default ping interval was added. The

[075] - Zero Memory Widget 0.2.0
  by Thierry Excoffier (http://freshmeat.net/users/exco/)
  Mon, Jul 4th 2005 04:48

Software Development :: User Interfaces
Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: The Zero Memory Widget library is as powerful as classic widget
libraries, but it does not use a single bit of memory per widget. So with
this library, there is no widget pointer/reference, instance
creation/destruction, event handler function, functions to read/write data
between widget and application, and so on. GUI programming with this
library is done in the C language, and it is as easy as composing an HTML
page.

Changes: With this release, the library can now be packaged in
distributions, because a library update does not imply the recompilation
of all the applications using the library. Even contributed widgets can
be compiled this way. The drawback is that the execution needs more CPU
time. Many (nearly all) the functions have been renamed, and a script is
provided to automatically upgrade the user code.
