Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: The algorithms package is aimed at being both simple and powerful
for typesetting pseudo-code/algorithms in LaTeX documents. Since it uses
the (La)TeX engine to generate its output, the results obtained are
frequently of high-quality. The package comes with a manual and is quite
easy to use in day-to-day documents.
Changes: This version of algorithms incorporates two frequently requested
features. The first is the ability to use \label's and \ref's for making
references to specific lines of a given algorithm. The second new feature
is the ability to change both the size and delimiters of line numbering.
You can specify any size you wish and use (almost) any string as the
delimiter of the line numbering generated by the package.

About: aroundme is social networking and team interaction software. It has
three central components: a social network, groupware, and activities and
task management. It will work with standard Web server configurations, and
takes up a small amount of disk space (about 3 Mb). The amount of space
given to each user for image storage is configurable at installation. It
is easy to install and configure.
Changes: Channels were added. A channel is an incoming feed of information
coming from another Web site. These channels can contain text, pictures,
and BitTorrent shared files such as videos and MP3s. Group schedule was
implemented. With WikiFile, you can now add files into the Wiki for
visitors to download.

About: AudioSlicer is a Cocoa GUI application that finds all silences in
an audio file and allows you to split it into several smaller audio files
and to name/tag them properly. While most other tools split automatically
according to certain criteria, AudioSlicer shows you all silences within a
certain range of duration. You can then listen and decide whether you want
to split there. The splitting is done without loss; there is no decoding
and re-encoding of audio data.

About: gui4j is a framework for describing Java Swing GUIs completely in
XML. The GUI is created dynamically based on the XML definitions. Each GUI
window is associated with exactly one top-level XML file. Each XML file can
dynamically include other XML files to support complex GUI definitions.
Each XML file is associated with a Java object that acts as both a
Controller and a Model for the GUI. There is a strong layer separation
between the GUI and the Controller: GUI definitions in the XML files can
access all Java methods of the Controller, but Java methods cannot access
any GUI elements directly. Events are used to trigger changes in the GUI.

Software Development :: Libraries
About: libtiff provides support for the Tag Image File Format (TIFF), a
widely used format for storing image data. The latest version of the TIFF
specification is available on-line in several different formats, as are a
number of TIFF Technical Notes (TTN's). Included in this software
distribution is a library, libtiff, for reading and writing TIFF, a small
collection of tools for doing simple manipulations of TIFF images on UNIX
systems, and documentation on the library and tools. A small assortment of
TIFF-related software for UNIX that has been contributed by others is also
included. The library, along with associated tool programs, should handle
most of your needs for reading and writing TIFF images on 32- and 64-bit
machines.
Changes: Many bugfixes and several new features. The runtime endianness
check has been replaced with the compile time one. Support has been added
for the new predictor type (floating point predictor) defined at the TIFF
Technical Note 3, for custom tags passed by value, and for all DNG tags.

[037] - LnBlog 0.3.3
by Peter A. Geer (http://freshmeat.net/users/AdaHacker/)
Tue, Jul 5th 2005 22:41
About: LnBlog is a simple Weblog with some basic site management features
that is designed to work well in low-cost shared hosting environments. It
has support for multiple authors, multiple Weblogs, reader comments,
trackbacks, auto- generated RSS feeds, permanent articles, and file
uploads. It has a flexible PHP-based theme and template system that
generates standards-complaint sites. All data is stored in flat files,
and the file access module can be easily configured to work when PHP's
safe mode is enabled.
Changes: This release fixes three major bugs. The first caused problems
with URL parsing in comments. Support was added for web servers running on
non-standard ports. Finally, the native file writing configuration was
fixed, as it was completely broken by the last release. New features in
this release include some basic theme documentation, new LBCode tags for
aligning images, and a page to change user information and passwords.

About: Piclab is an integrated development environment for applications

Microchip programmers (currently only ICD2 on a serial port) and several

Tue, Jul 5th 2005 05:05
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3
System :: Hardware
About: PyGogear is a tool for using the Philips GoGear MP3 players under
Linux. The GoGear Philips HDD0xx series of MP3 players can be mounted with
the usb-storage module, but merely copying MP3 files onto it is not enough,
since the player needs to read information about the tracks from a Sqlite
database file, usually named MyDb. This program reads the necessary tags
(either ID3v1 or ID3v2) from the MP3 files placed on the player and
inserts them in the database.
Changes: pyGogear used to write some dummy tags to those MP3 files with no
tags at all. Now files are left untouched. The database file is now copied
to /tmp for faster access times. A counter with the number of songs
inserted is printed after a succesful execution. Some changes were
introduced by the eyeD3 module. Some information was not inserted in the
database' song table (such as bitrate, frequency, track length). ID3v2 is
now supported as well as ID3v1. Output is now nicer, since the debugging
output was removed.

connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.

Information Management :: Records Management
About: Sysbotz Enterprise is both a business software package and business
application platform based around a Web GUI. It features a business
management system for sales, purchasing, and inventory, an XML-based form
engine (used to input/display data) and an XML-based report engine for

[075] - The Nice programming language 0.9.11 (Development)
by Daniel Bonniot (http://freshmeat.net/users/bonniot/)
Tue, Jul 5th 2005 03:19
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Nice is a new object-oriented programming language based on Java.
It incorporates features from functional programming, and puts into
practice state-of-the-art results from academic research. Among the
advanced features: generic types, anonymous functions, multi-methods,
tuples, optional parameters to methods, design by contract, detection of
many errors during compilation (in particular, concerning casts and null
references). This results in more expressivity, modularity, and type
safety.
Changes: This release has many new convenient features, like better
nullness analysis (which prevents NullPointerException at compile time),
value returns in void methods, binary literals, and more. It also improves
integration with Java code by making Nice interface methods available in
Java.

Internet
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: VisualRoute combines the tools traceroute, ping, reverse DNS, and
whois into a single graphical interface that analyzes Internet
connections, reporting quick and essential data points for finding
connectivity problems. An IP location database identifies the geographical
location of IP addresses and Web servers, showing the path of an Internet
connection on a global map. The domain registration and network provider
contact information are reported for each hop of a network route for quick
problem reporting. Several new advanced edition options include reverse
tracing to initiate a connection test from a remote desktop or data
center, port testing, Internet application testing, and TCP traceroutes.
