[001] - AllTray 0.60
  by jebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/jebe/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 11:19

Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: AllTray is software that allows users to dock any application into
the system tray. You can dock (for example) Mozilla Thunderbird, Evolution,
and even terminals. A highlight feature is that a click on the "close"
button of an application will minimize it to the system tray. It works
well with Gnome, KDE, XFCE 4, Fluxbox, and WindowMaker.

Changes: Drag 'n Drop will work under Gnome and KDE. The application will
be untouched, so the docked application will work like the undocked one.
With the "clickmode" feature, you can dock by clicking on the desired
window. Other new features: "--geometry" and "--sticky" options,
autopackage support, and bugfixes.

About: Amber for Parrot is an object-oriented scripting language for the
Parrot virtual machine. It combines the traditional advantages of
scripting languages with support for software correctness and large-scale
software engineering. Amber for Parrot has syntax and semantics somewhere
between those of Eiffel and Ruby.

Changes: Several new language constructs are implemented in this release
including exception handling, multi-line string constants, and a new form
of feature body with an "is" part. Improvements have been made to the
generated PIR code, and more test cases have been added.

[006] - cb2Bib 0.4.4
  by constans (http://freshmeat.net/users/constans/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 17:12

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting unformatted bibliographic
references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. It
facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted sources.
References are written in BibTeX. A PDF file with the article text, if
available, can be easily linked and renamed by dragging it onto the
cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can later retrieve,
import, and display these BibTeX references.

Changes: The config script has been modified to fix some issues when
compiling on Mac OS X and Knoppix. 'Journals to Full/Abbreviated Name'
conversion has been added to the BibTeX editor. This release no longer
places journal alternate names in the 'annote' field. There are some fixes
regarding network querying. The file netqinf.txt has been adapted to
changes in PubMed.

[008] - Conary 0.61.1
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 04:00

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: The "conary updateall" command is now functional. The repository
browser now exports file contents for individual download.

[009] - coNCePTuaL 0.6.2
  by Scott Pakin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pakin/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 11:14

Communications
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Benchmark

About: coNCePTuaL is a domain-specific programming language for rapidly
generating programs that measure the performance and/or test the
correctness of networks and network protocol layers. A few lines of
coNCePTuaL code can produce programs that would take significantly more
effort to write in a conventional programming language.

Changes: There are many small changes. The program visualization backend
indicates deadlock conditions with big red "X"s and staggers coincident
message arrows so they can be distinguished visually. A new event
profiling backend tallies the number of dynamically executed events of
each type. The semantic analysis module detects a larger number of
incorrect or merely suspicious constructs so as to help programmers write
correct code. logmerge accepts up to four occurrences of the --simplify
option to further isolate outliers in platform parameters.

[011] - Daemon Shield 0.4.0
  by Chuck Sharp (http://freshmeat.net/users/chucksharp/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 08:36

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Daemon Shield is a Linux intrusion prevention daemon that scans for
brute force break-in attacks in real time and uses iptables to create rules
that block the attackers' IP addresses for a configurable period of time.
It uses handlers that watch for attacks against given services, such as
SSH, telnet, FTP, etc. It is highly configurable through a central
configuration file. It loads existing blocklist rules into iptables on
startup, and removes the blocklist rules when it shuts down. Other major
features include background daemon operation, logging to syslog,
easy-to-extend handlers, configurable block duration, and email
notifications.

Changes: All of the required IP chains and rules are now created upon
startup and removed upon shutdown automatically, without file editing by
hand. The init script should no longer depend on an RHEL-based
distribution. The configure script now has a --with-python option in order
to accomodate multiple installed Python distributions. More documentation
has been written, including some information on installing Python 2.3.
There are several minor bugfixes.

[012] - DB Solo 1.2.0
  by DB Solo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhantula/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 06:44

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables, indexes,
views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored procedures, you can
view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the results of queries.
You can also graphically view foreign key relationships.

Changes: A Schema Comparison Tool which allows you to compare tables
between two schemas or databases was added. It will report any
discrepancies between schemas such as missing or mismatching tables,
columns, and constraints. It will detect discrepancies in column
attributes such as data type, nullability, and defaults. For constraints,
it will make sure the names match and that they contain the same columns
in their definition. Comparison can also be done between two different
DBMS platforms, such as Oracle and SQL Server.

[029] - Midgard Components Framework 2.4.2 (Stable)
  by Torben Nehmer (http://freshmeat.net/users/tnehmer/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 07:57

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: The Midgard Components Framework (also called MidCOM) is an
advanced component architecture which extends the Midgard Web content
management framework. It provides mechanisms for building a Web site using
components without much need for writing code to glue all this together.
The administration site gets built automatically by using those
components. Goodies like a caching engine and subrequests make site
building even easier.

Changes: This fixes several issues in the indexer. Non-UTF-8 sites can now
be queried correctly, and the html2text conversion has been hot-fixed to
keep the boundaries of the words in the converted texts intact. The simley
configuration options for the community HTML widget have been fixed as
well. The request base classes now add the topic to the request data
automatically, and they no longer mix up the metadata and the topic
toolbars.

  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 17:17

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: PHP Project Manager is a Web-based application for assisting in the
organisation of a small project-based business. The application
incorporates an RSS news feed reader, task and project manager, client
contact manager, test manager, and accounts manager. The task and project
manager incorporates the ability to add new projects, add new tasks,
monitor time spent on projects/tasks, and calculate project costs based on
specified billing rates. The test manager allows the set up and running of
simple test scripts, saving these for re-running later, or creating new
test runs.

Changes: Several of the functions introduced in 0.4 have been removed to
simplify the utility. The tool now consists purely of a Task and Project
Management Tool. The Accounts and Test Manager functions will be developed
under a separate utility. It is anticipated that all the tools will come
together with a combined front-end in the future; however, for the
continued development of PHP Project Manager, the decision was made to
strip out the non-essential elements.

[050] - rsyslog 0.9.2
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 06:59

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, and
fully configurable output formats (including great timestamps). It is
designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to
work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features
require changing the config file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: Rsyslog now supports syslog via TCP. This is important because it
allows syslog messages to be secured with encryption (e.g. via stunnel) and
provides a much more reliable transport mechanism. Rsyslog is compatible
with leading tools and devices like syslog-ng, Cisco PIX, and MonitorWare
(Windows). Note, however, the 0.9.2 release only supports receiving via
TCP. Forwarding is not yet supported. So in a relay chain, rsyslog must be
the last daemon to receive the message. Syslog/TCP support is activated via
a simple command line switch without any need for complex configuration
file changes.

  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 03:57

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Template Interface Engine is a template engine which interfaces
back-end PHP code with HTML code in separate files. This class implements
a template engine that uses regular expressions to locate placeholder
marks. The class supports template loops and uses event driven callback
functions to set variables inside the loop sections. Outside loop
sections, the variable values can be set directly.

Changes: The "sample2.php" sample file was added to serve as an example
document. It is used to add or edit an item from the browse page.

[058] - The Sleep Scripting Project 2.0-beta 10
  by Raphael Mudge (http://freshmeat.net/users/rsmudge/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 23:03

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Sleep is an embeddable scripting solution for Java applications. It
is heavily inspired by Perl with bits of Objective-C thrown in. Features
include function closures as first-class types, a unified I/O interface
for sockets/processes/files, and the ability to instantiate/query Java
objects. The Sleep Java API allows the language to be extended with new
constructs, operators, functions, and variable containers.

Changes: Several bugs were fixed. &wait was added to wait for a fork or
callback read to finish. The binary data format parser was reworked to
allow specification of an endianess. Most of java.lang.Math was bridged
into the Sleep default library.

[060] - Visitors 1.0
  by Steve McInerney (http://freshmeat.net/users/spm999/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 23:04

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Visitors processes a Web log file, trying very hard to identify a
single "person" as much as possible. This is typically achieved by the
use of either an identifying cookie in the log file, or via the IP
address, name, and browser ID combination.

Changes: Very minor code fixups were done. Minor configuration bugs were
fixed.

[062] - Whois domain 1.20
  by olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olaf2/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 17:27

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Whois domain is a PHP class which can check the whois information
for domain names. If the result for a query is negative, then a standard
message is given. Special features include string validation for the name
part, a dynamic selection menu for the defined TLDs, domain checking or
full domain querying, and multiple domain check.

Changes: The simple domain check and the method to obtain whois data have
been changed, because there are several problems with timeouts by calling
the whois servers. There are two ways to get the whois data: the old
method with fsockopen, and (new) via the Linux command line with the
command "whois -h". The second way is much faster and uses features like
redirection. The class has been modified to handle .nl queries while using
the "is" parameter.

[064] - WorldForge::skstream 0.3.4
  by Alistair Riddoch (http://freshmeat.net/users/ajr/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 17:31

Software Development :: Libraries

About: skstream is a network transport library written in C++ using the
iostream interface. It provides classes for handling TCP socket
connections. It is derived from the FreeSockets library by Rafael Guterres
Jeffman. Its primary use to the WorldForge project, who maintain this
version, is as a transport for Atlas-C++, the standard Atlas protocol
implementation.

Changes: Several bugs in Windows platforms have been fixed. The virtual
functions have been cleaned up for efficiency and to get rid of warnings
with recent C++ compilers.

[065] - WxLib 0.24
  by ijw (http://freshmeat.net/users/ijw/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 23:11

Software Development :: Libraries

About: WxLib is a widely resuable C++ library that converts many
facilities that are found in the standard C library into a form that is
more appropriate for use in a C++ context. The library wraps functions for
dealing with threads, files, FIFOs, serial I/O, sockets, and directories.
It focuses on the correct use of C++ functions, and especially on the
correct use of error handling mechanisms.

Changes: Wy_Thread has been rewritten to adopt NPTL C++ implementation.
The throw specification was removed from many functions. System file
classes have been reimplemented for better usability. The protocols of the
read/write functions were changed. Some other functions were added,
removed, or renamed.

[066] - _smake 1.2a32
  by Jörg Schilling (http://freshmeat.net/users/schily/)
  Wed, Jul 6th 2005 03:34

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System :: Archiving :: Packaging

About: smake is a higly portable make program with automake features. It
implements a complete superset of the features of the classical Unix make
program. It warns about typical misusage of dynamic macros that prevent
portability of makefiles.

Changes: The -N option was added to continue if no source for nonexistent
dependencies is found. The SHELL macro is evaluated according to POSIX.
Smake now warns about junk at the end of POSIX suffix rules to help to
flag broken makefiles like those found in the Xorg tree. The dynmac
expander now correctly handles when the growable buffer has to be
relocated when it grows. The dynmac expander no longer adds unneeded
spaces in lists to allow smake to be used to compile Xorg. Smake now gives
better warnings with illegal dynmac usage to help to locate illegal dynmac
usage in highly complex projects like Xorg.
