System :: Systems Administration
About: Bastille Linux aims to be the most comprehensive, flexible, and
educational Security Hardening Program for Red Hat (Fedora Core,
Enterprise Linux, and original Red Hat), SuSE, Gentoo, Mandrake, and

[024] - exifprobe 2.0.0
by dhh (http://freshmeat.net/users/dhh/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 13:48
Utilities
About: Exifprobe reads images produced by digital cameras or similar
devices and reports their structure and the auxilliary data and metadata
contained within them. The program understands several image file formats,
cooked and raw, including TIFF, JPEG, MRW, CIFF/CRW, JP2/JPEG2000, RAF, and
X3F, and will read most TIFF-derived formats including EXIF, DNG, ORF, CR2,
NEF, K25, KDC, and PEF. MakerNote sections found in Exif IFDs are reported
and expanded if the note is in a semblance of TIFF IFD format. Information
which has been published on the internet is used to interpret notes where
possible.
Changes: Support has been added for several "raw" camera file/image
formats, including MRW, CIFF/CRW, X3F, RAF, JP2/JPEG2000, DNG, CR2, NEF,
ORF, PEF, KDC, and K25. Image summaries have been improved and are now
provided for all supported formats (not just TIFF) All image sections (not
just JPEG) are now reported and summarized. MakerNote coverage is expanded,

Federal Computer Crime Unit.
Changes: This release adds a new kernel with the slow and buggy
low-performance USB block device driver removed. It adds /dev/sdx again.
NTFS write support has been removed because it was too dangerous for
forensic purposes. All LUNs for SCSI devices are now probed to support
most USB multi card readers. Automatic DMA activation is done at boot time
to speed IDE disks. The USB2 high speed driver is automatically loaded now;

[026] - findmp3 0.7
by Folkert van Heusden (http://freshmeat.net/users/fvh/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 06:19
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: findmp3 searches through directory trees for MP3 files by the
composing artist, the title of the track, the album it came from, the
genre, etc. This information is retrieved from the ID3(v2) tags in an MP3
file. The syntax of the command line is more or less similar to that of
the find command.
Changes: This release fixes a segfault and compilation problems on strict

[027] - FlashBack 0.4_pre4
by artm (http://freshmeat.net/users/femistofel/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 06:59
Education
About: FlashBack is a flashcard scheduler based on a card review method
described by Sebastian Leitner. It allows one to create and review simple
(text only) flash cards. It supports Unicode and complex scripts (via
Pango). A simple, tab-separated cardfile format is used allowing for
editing the cards with a text editor (e.g., if you can't enter certain
script in GTK+).
Changes: This release fixes a "messing up sorting after study" bug and
minor cosmetic problems (using the green brain icon for the main window
and tray area). It defaults to using egg.trayicon (needs
gnome-python2-libegg on Fedora Core 4). The installer will build the
private (flash.trayicon) module only if it can't find the official one.

[053] - monq.jfa 0.13
by Harald Kirsch (http://freshmeat.net/users/pifpafpuf/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 11:46
Text Processing :: Filters
Text Processing :: General
About: monq.jfa is a class library for fast and flexible text filtering
with regular expressions. In contrast to java.util.regex, monq.jfa allows
a regular expression to be bound to an action that is automatically called
whenever a match is spotted in an input stream. In addition, it is possible
to combine several ten thousand regex/action pairs into one machinery
(called a "deterministic finite automaton" or DFA) for fast parallel text
filtering.
Changes: This release mainly changes how handling of non-matching input is
specified. Because this is a major design issue when creating a Dfa, the
information is now compiled into the Dfa. Previously, it was stored in the
DfaRun object that operates the Dfa. Some predefined action callbacks could
not be shared between threads, because they had an internal, changeable
state. This is changed now, so they can be safely used in a Dfa to be
shared by threads.

by Chris Arndt (http://freshmeat.net/users/strogon14/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 16:13
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
About: pylize is a Python script that makes the creation of on-screen
presentations a matter of a few minutes. It generates a template master
document, which can be edited with a text or HTML editor. The master
document is then processed by pylize to generate HTML files for every
slide plus a file for the table of contents. The presentation can be
viewed with any CSS-capable Web browser. pylize is inspired by the Perl
program PLies.
Changes: This release uses EmPy as a template system. The JavaScript
keyboard event handling has been fixed and now works with IE too. Spanish
and Italian translations were added. Windows installation has been fixed
and tested. The code has been refactored, and the CSS and the templates
cleaned up.

by Torsten Juergeleit (http://freshmeat.net/users/tjuerge/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 16:15
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)
About: Spring IDE for Eclipse provides plugins for the Eclipse platform to
ease working with Bean Factory configuration files for the Spring
Framework. It contains a Spring project nature (with an incremental
builder for validating Spring bean config files), an image decorator
(which decorates Spring projects and all Spring bean config files), a
Spring view (which allows one to browse Spring projects and their Spring
bean config files, including bean properties), and an editor showing a
graph from the beans of a single config file or a set of config files.
Changes: This release fixes some bugs and adds a few enhancements. This
includes the update to Spring 1.2.2. The graph reopens after Eclipse has
been restarted, and shows dependencies for interceptors and lookup methods
now. The validator handles lookup methods and the list of interceptor names
in ProxyFactoryBean now.

About: SQLgrey is a Postfix greylisting policy service with auto-
whitelisting and an SQL database as storage backend. It is based on
postgrey, refining auto-whitelisting and storing whitelists and
connection attempts in a database. Its goal is reducing the amount of spam
reaching user mailboxes.
Changes: This release allows the user to select the database cleanup
method, between the old synchronous one (done in the main process) and the
new asynchronous one (fork a process to do the cleanup, avoiding a delay
for email processing). The default is now the synchronous database cleanup
method (the asynchronous cleanups trigger lockups on some setups).

Changes: This version includes several moderate and several minor bug
fixes: the "delete task and attach sub-tasks to the parent task" option
did not work properly, recurring tasks no longer lose their groups upon
activation, the groups list in the list edit form didn't respect the
'users can only see groups they are part of' option (always hid groups

[080] - The Mana World 0.0.14
by Bjørn Lindeijer (http://freshmeat.net/users/bjorn81/)
Fri, Jul 8th 2005 22:16
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative
free and open source MMORPG. It uses 2D graphics and aims to create a
large and diverse interactive world. The game aims to be a unique place
for people to interact not only by fighting each other but to play life,
form a community within the community, or just simply chat. Although the
game is never-ending and a linear story cannot be applied, it should have
enough background to describe and predefine tribes, kingdoms, and the
environment overall. Fullfilled quests should lead to certain events
depending on them being solved. Quests should also encourage teamwork.
Changes: This release adds background images to the minimap and background
music to the maps (included with the Windows installer). Mouse input for
attacking was improved and a right-click menu was added for certain
actions. A lot of things were fixed including a ghosts bug, weapon
un-equip, inventory display, window resizing, and seeing other players
attacking.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering
About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A unified widget-based, object-oriented programming
interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to the developer to control
and assemble the GUI, instead of struggling with HTML, JavaScript, and
HTTP requests, or the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications, the framework handles client/server communication, including
compression and security layers. A GUI-builder is included.
Changes: This release brings layout enhancements of windows and dialogs. A
new widget to represent standard links and some minor enhancements and
corrections in HTML rendering (menus, HTML-GridBagLayout, and treeViews)
are included. A navigation error handler has been implemented to control
the use of the browser's back button. Some enhancements in the painting
mechanism for partial Web page refresh (AJAX) have been implemented, and
large lists, tables, and trees force a full page refresh to prevent AJAX
performance problems with large data volumes. Mouseenter and mouseleave

that order. XOM supports XSLT, Canonical XML, and XInclude.
Changes: This release adds many bugfixes for XPath and a few other
bugfixes, including ones for namespace handling during SAX conversion and
attribute parentage in copied elements. It probably introduces new bugs in
serialization with Unicode Normalization Form C (NFC); addressing this will
be a major focus for beta 3. Beta 2 also makes some optimizations that
