by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration
About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.
Changes: A bug concerning interface group size was fixed. Initial
"unknown" interfaces support was added. The vlantab code was cleaned up.
PPPoE, PPtP, and WiFi configuration examples were added. The documentation
was updated. The logger was enhanced. Multiple network modules are now
supported.

by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Tue, Jul 12th 2005 03:23
Printing
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: Several layout bugs were fixed.

[004] - Active port forwarder 0.7.1
by jeremian (http://freshmeat.net/users/jeremian/)
Tue, Jul 12th 2005 11:13
System :: Networking
About: Active port forwarder uses SSL for secure packet tunneling. It is
designed for people without an external IP who want to make some services
available on the Internet. afserver is placed on the machine with a
publicly accessible address, and afclient is placed on the machine behind
a firewall or masquerade. This makes the second machine visible to the
Internet. Running afserver does not require root priviledges, nor does it
use other processes. Zlib is used to compress the transferred data.
Changes: Several bugs have been fixed. Public key fingerprints are now
stored and checked. Generating keys and certificates no longer needs an
external program.

[005] - AKFQuiz 4.0.1
by Andreas K. Foerster (http://freshmeat.net/users/AKFoerster/)
Tue, Jul 12th 2005 06:19
Education
About: The AKFQuiz package lets you easily make your own quiz games or
learning exercises. These can be used either with grquiz in a graphical
environment (SVGAlib), with crtquiz on the text console, or with diaquiz
in a GUI environment. There is also a line oriented variant, linequiz,
which can be used as a backend. A CGI-variant can be installed on a Web
server to offer exercises via the Web. A mkquiz tool that generates an
HTML file for to use with the JavaScript akfquiz3.js is also included.
Those can then be published with any Web-space provider.
Changes: A problem in which the last answer in HTML files was sometimes
missing was fixed. The CGI now works better with lynx. There is no
"solution" button for neutral quizzes in mkquiz any more. The title screen
of crtquiz is centered correctly on large screens.

[011] - bash programmable completion 20050712 (Stable)
by Ian Macdonald (http://freshmeat.net/users/ianmacd/)
Tue, Jul 12th 2005 11:15
System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities
About: Since v2.04, bash has allowed you to intelligently program and
extend its standard completion behavior to achieve complex command lines
with just a few keystrokes. Imagine typing ssh [Tab] and being able to
complete on hosts from your ~/.ssh/known_hosts files. Or typing man 3 str
[Tab] and getting a list of all string handling functions in the UNIX
manual. mount system: [Tab] would complete on all exported file-systems
from the host called system, while make [Tab] would complete on all
targets in Makefile. This project was conceived to produce programmable
completion routines for the most common Linux/UNIX commands, reducing the
amount of typing sysadmins and programmers need to do on a daily basis.
Changes: New completion has been added for rpm2cpio, ntpdate, getent, id,
and cpio. Mutt completion now also works for muttng. A bug was fixed in
the _filedir() function, so that literal filenames that appear to be glob
patterns are not treated as such. scp completion was fixed for the case
where a filename contains shell metacharacters. Broken sudo completion was
fixed. More extensions for MPlayer were added. The new open document
formats of OpenOffice 2.0 are now supported. Many other minor fixes and
enhancements were made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Connect Daily, a Web-based calendaring system, allows multiple
users to add and edit calendar events using a Web browser. The calendar
display can be directly integrated into your Web site. It provides
advanced capabilities for managing resources and facilities. The approval
processes allow many users to edit calendars, with the assurance that all
items added are approved. It supports event download to MS Outlook and
Palm OS PDAs. Export to iCal clients like KOrganizer, Evolution, and Apple
iCal is supported. Authentication to LDAP directories is also supported.
Changes: Documentation was consolidated from multiple sources into one
organized HTML document. A site help feature was added to allow users to
create their own help pages. A work-around has been added for positioning
problems in Konqueror/Safari. Viewing by secondary characteristic (item
type, resource type, etc.) now restricts returned items to calendars user
have permission for. Many other small bugs were fixed.

About: Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It
finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable
partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical
menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the
structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even
load very big kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a
new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory.
Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in
real mode to be as compatible as possible.
Changes: This release better handles bootable CD-ROMs (ISOLINUX now
works). It can also emulate bootable floppies stored as *.BDI files and
display them in the menu, and tiny.exe can now load uncompressed
initramfs. It includes spelling fixes.

About: Serving XML provides a pipeline language for declaratively
adapting content to XML, transforming it through a chain of XSLT
stylesheets and SAX filters, and producing a stream of output to a local

content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX events, and writing
it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This software is especially
suitable for converting flat files to XML, with its support for variant
record types, multi-valued fields, namespaces, hierarchical grouping of
records, row-by-row validation with XML Schema, and much more. There is
also an API for embedding the software in a Java application.

About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.
Changes: This version embeds the necessary third-party sources of
libFoundation, gnustep-objc, and gnustep-make. As a major feature
enhancement the vCard and iCal support of SOPE 4.5 was backported to 4.4.
This improves recurrence handling for iCalendar and allows parsing of most
