[001] - BashDiff 1.25
by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 10:33
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells
About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <<+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation. For GUI dialogs or layout, it adds a GTK+2 interface.
Changes: --disable-gtk2 is now recognized by 'configure'.

[002] - bayonne 0.6.0 (Bayonne 2)
by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 06:48
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Bayonne is the telephony server of the GNU project. Bayonne offers
a script driven threaded multiline state event telephony service for
building voice response systems and telephony plugins for runtime driver
configuration. Bayonne also features "TGI" for making perl applications
"telephony aware". Bayonne may be used to build telephony based system
administration, home automation, automated attendent, v-commerce, and
voice messaging systems.
Changes: This release supports automatic wrapper generation and direct
execution of Bayonne 2 applications that are written entirely in Perl,
Python, and PHP. This enhances Bayonne TGI and Libexec with the ability to
create complete applications in external scripting languages that can also
include embedded control statements for the Bayonne server, such as for
SIP proxy registration and call assignment by DID number of externally
written scripts.

[005] - ccbuild 0.9.0
by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 09:11
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and compiles them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Real deployment/distribution should still be done with other tools. As an
added bonus, it can create simple Makefiles and graph dependencies using
DOT (graphviz) graphs.
Changes: A segfault caused by a wrong shell expansion and a segfault
caused by a command argument in build loop were fixed. An option to stop
default arguments was added. An option to stop default resolutions was
added. -I is now automatically passed on to g++. In brute mode, output
files are removed on failure.

[008] - coNCePTuaL 0.6.2a
by Scott Pakin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pakin/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 10:40
Communications
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Benchmark
About: coNCePTuaL is a domain-specific programming language for rapidly
generating programs that measure the performance and/or test the
correctness of networks and network protocol layers. A few lines of
coNCePTuaL code can produce programs that would take significantly more
effort to write in a conventional programming language.
Changes: A last-minute change in 0.6.2 broke the interpreter and therefore
all backends built on top of it. This release fixes the build process as
well as a few minor bugs in the compiler and run-time library. The only
new feature added is logmerge support for merging tens of thousands of log
files. This is handy when running on LLNL's BlueGene/L supercomputer, which
contains tens of thousands of CPUs.

by Rob Manning (http://freshmeat.net/users/manningr/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 02:16
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Systems Administration
About: DB Copy Plugin is a database copying plugin for the SQuirreL SQL
Client. It makes it possible to copy and paste tables from one session to
another and between different databases and includes primary key and
foreign key constraints for copied tables, and uses Hibernate 3.0
internally to perform database object type mappings. It supports
Firebird, Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, MySQL, HyperSonic, Pointbase,
and PostgreSQL, and allows the user to select a Hibernate dialect for the
destination database if one couldn't be determined automatically.
Changes: GUI work was moved onto the event dispatch thread. Support for
checking if the source database column names are in fact keywords in the
destination database was added. When records exist in the destination
table, the delete dialog now indicates the name of the table when asking
the user if it should truncate the table. The ability to auto-determine
when the destination database is MS SQL Server was added. This version was
tested against MS SQL Server 2005 (CTP).

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Software Development :: Version Control
About: quilt is a tool for managing a series of patches by keeping track
of the changes each patch makes. Patches can be applied, un-applied,
refreshed, etc. gquilt is a PyGTK GUI wrapper for quilt.
Changes: A bug in the view/edit patch description mechanism that prevented
it from working correctly when the patch file did not yet exist was fixed.
This enables the user to start the description before the first refresh
for a new patch. The patch rename mechanism was modified so that it no
longer relies on quilt having a "rename" function.

[035] - Jiplet Container 0.0.2a
by Amit Chatterjee (http://freshmeat.net/users/robinmcelroy/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 21:55
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Internet
About: Jiplet is short for Java SIP Servlet. The Jiplet Container is a
development and runtime environment for creating server-side SIP
applications. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is widely used for
providing telephone services over the Internet. The Jiplet Container
provides a Java servlet-like development and run-time environment for
developing, deploying, and running SIP applications. Many of its features
are very similar to the Java servlet environment, including support for
servlet mapping, scoped variables, and context handling.
Changes: Container-managed authentication and authorization was
implemented, which allows SIP applications to specify security
constraints. The container handles security on behalf of the application
based on SIP specifications. A new JMX implementation has been put in
place that supports the "remote" API. The class-loader architecture for
the standalone jiplet container has been changed. Any classes and jar
files placed under the common directory are now loaded automatically. This
feature allows users to easily replace the SIP stack, plugin authentication
databases, etc.

Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: KTechlab provides an IDE for electronic circuits and
microcontrollers. This includes simulation of a variety of components
(logic, integrated, linear, nonlinear, and reactive), simulation and
debugging of PIC microcontrollers via gpsim, and its own closely-linked
and complementary high level languages: FlowCode and Microbe. It has also
been designed to be as easy to use and unintrusive as possible; all
components and FlowParts have context sensitive help, and simulating
electronics is as simple as dragging components onto the work area and
creating connectors that autoroute themselves between their pins. FlowCode
allows users new to PICs to instantly create their own programs, while the
electronic simulation allows stepping through a PIC's assembly program
inside a circuit.
Changes: More accurate PIC simulation for a wider variety of PICs. An easy

System :: Filesystems
About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with event
updates using fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb,
LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators
include image, audio, and animation decoders.
Changes: The ability to attach emblems to Extended Attributes was added.
refreshAllConceptsContingentCounter() now uses a faster spatial algorithm.
ferris-lattice-from-cfi now uses a border algorithm and
ferris-create-fca-scale-urls can now use RDF/Wordnet. Memory leaks in
XML::writeMessage() and Medallion::save() were fixed along with a
regression in out of band RDF EA. Preliminary support for a native
"rename" method in the etagere:// filesystem was added. GCC 4.x fixes were
made for the DTL context plugin. A move was made to Evolution 2.2 for

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

[059] - otl 0.33
by david a thompson (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomp/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 22:05
Text Processing :: General
About: otl converts a text file written in a user-specified syntax to a
second text file with user-specified markup. The default conversion is
from a simple, readable text file syntax designed for writing an outline
to XHTML. However, otl can be used for many types of conversion, since the
syntax of the source file and of the output can both be customized by the
user. otl is more than a search/replace frontend; it can process complex
structures such as ordered and unordered lists (nested or unnested), add
custom "headers" and "footers" to documents, etc. The package also
includes tag-remove, a script for stripping XML tags from documents.
Changes: tag-remove was enhanced substantially. It can now handle multiple
filenames (and deal with globbing) on the command line. A "preserve links"
(--plnk) option for tag-remove was added, so the user has the option of
preserving <a> and </a> tag information, and a --help option was also
added. In addition, otl now adds a HTML title tag by default, using the
content of the first line of the input document unless a line is already
present in the input document with the title tag.

Thu, Jul 14th 2005 01:27
System :: Systems Administration
About: pwdutils is a collection of utilities to manage the passwd and
shadow user information. The difference to the shadow suite is that these
utilities can also modify the information stored in NIS, NIS+, or LDAP.
PAM is used for user authentication and changing the pasword. It contains
passwd, chage, chfn, chsh, chpasswd, expiry, gpasswd, grpck, groupadd,
groupdel, groupmod, grpunconv, newgrp, pwck, pwconv, pwunconv, useradd,
userdel, usermod, vipw, and a daemon for changing the password on a remote
machine over a secure SSL connection. The daemon also uses PAM, so it can
change passwords no matter where they are stored.

[066] - PyLinda 0.5.1
by Andrew Wilkinson (http://freshmeat.net/users/andrew_j_w/)
Thu, Jul 14th 2005 10:33
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Linda is a widely studied distributed computing environment,
centered around the notion of a tuple space. A tuple space is a bag (also
called a multi-set) of tuples. A tuple is an ordered, typed chunk of data.
Tuple spaces exist independently of processes in the system, and the data
placed into a tuple space also exist independently. PyLinda is a simple
implementation of a Linda system, but it also includes several of the more
recently proposed extensions to Linda in the form of multiple tuple spaces,
garbage collection, sane non-blocking primitives and bulk tuple operations.
Changes: Fixes a fairly serious bug that would cause random deadlock when
two or more servers were used. The readline module is optional, as Windows
Python doesn't supply it by default. There are various fixes to the install
script.

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) is a tool
for developing and executing regular expressions using any of more than 20
search programs, editors, and programming languages. For each program in
each locale a palette showing the available regular expression constructs
is provided. The features of each program are determined by running a test
suite, which guarantees that they will be correct for the particular
program version and the user's locale. Executed expressions are recorded
in a history list, from which entries may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. This allows complex regular
expressions to be developed in pieces. It fully supports UTF-8 Unicode as
long as the underlying program does.

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: Support for conditional compilation found in Microsoft JScript
has been added. Now it's possible to specify original the file's input
character encoding using the '--input-encoding=encoding-name' command line
option. This makes encoding of JavaScript files containing foreign
languages possible. A lot of JScript-specific symbols were added to the
list of exceptions. A "Project->Quit GUI" menu item was added to the
Project Manager GUI.

Thu, Jul 14th 2005 08:08
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: SwiXAT is a Swing-based authoring tool for the quick and easy
development of GUI Java applications. It implements a true MVC framework
and uses XML to define the view (SwiXML is used as the XUL engine),
BeanShell as a scripting language for the controller, and JXPath as the
binding mechanism between the view and model. It provides a complete
environment in which it is possible to almost write an entire Java Swing
application without writing Java compiled code. The use of XPath makes it
very simple to traverse the object tree of the application's business
model.
Changes: Support for defining and executing wizards has been added. The
view now provides new tools for MDI applications (a built-in window menu
and a scrollable desktop pane). Two calendar components (DatePanel and
DateField) have been added. A customizable TreeModel has been implemented
to fill the hierarchical tree of a JTree directly from the business model.
Maven build files have been added, and the user's guide has been updated
with documentation about the new features.

Thu, Jul 14th 2005 02:19
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.
Changes: This release includes a number of mostly minor bugfixes. The most
notable of these corrects an issue where rotated images were being
corrupted and also a problem with event auditing causing events to be
incorrectly deleted.
