[001] - /etc/net Scripts 0.7.8
by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
Fri, Jul 15th 2005 07:39
System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration
About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.
Changes: This release fixes several minor bugs introduced by the 0.7.7
release.

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Asterisk is a hybrid TDM and packet voice PBX (Private Branch
eXchange) and IVR platform with ACD functionality. It acts as middleware
between the Internet (IAX, SIP, MGCP, Skinny, H.323), telephony channels
(like Zaptel, T1, PRI, E1, FXO, FXS, VoIP, VoFR, ISDN, modems, Internet
Phone Jack, etc.), and applications (like voice-mail, conferencing,
directories, MP3 players, intercoms, etc.). It has many advanced features
such as a codec translation API. The base distribution includes several
channel backends, as well as applications. However, the beauty of Asterisk
is its ability to be extended using its APIs, dynamic module loader, and
AGI scripting interface. End users can even write their own applications
that run on the system in C or any scripting language of their choice.
Changes: This release fixes bug in caller ID matching in the dial plan
that was introduced in 1.0.8.

[008] - audio convert 0.2
by thetroublemaker (http://freshmeat.net/users/thetroublemaker/)
Fri, Jul 15th 2005 00:47
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
About: audio convert is a script that converts between WAV, Ogg, MP3,
MPC, FLAC, APE, and WMA files. It has an easy-to-use interface that
makes it possible to fill in the tags for a few formats and choose the
quality of compression. The script was initially designed for the
Nautilus file browser and can be easily installed into Nautilus by
copying it to the nautilus-scripts directory. You can then right- click
on files and choose "audio-convert" from the "scripts" menu. The script
is also known to work on rox or directly from a shell.
Changes: It is now easier to convert large groups of files. The quality of
compression is now asked only once per group of files. A question was added
to initially ask if you want to fill in metatag data for a file or a group
of files, in case of conversion to Ogg or MP3.

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
About: bib2xhtml is a program that converts BibTeX files into HTML
(specifically, XHTML 1.0). The conversion is mostly done by specialized
BibTeX style files, derived from a converted bibliography style template.
This ensures that the original BibTeX styles are faithfully reproduced.
Some post-processing is performed by Perl code. This is an update of the
bib2html program written by David Hull in 1996 and maintained by him until
1998.
Changes: This release adds an option to display the original bibtex key
together with each entry's label in the generated file. It supports the
\url{} LaTeX command, which is converted to a hypertext link. It fixes a
number of small HTML and style bugs.

[016] - delsafe 0.0.67
by psds (http://freshmeat.net/users/psdasilva/)
Fri, Jul 15th 2005 20:52
About: delsafe is a set of utilities to hopefully allow you to recover
recently deleted files. Basically, when you delete or in certain cases
overwrite a file the original file is moved into a trash can. It does this
by overriding the original unlink, rename, open, and fopen library calls
using the Linux LD_PRELOAD mechanism. Trash cans are placed on top of each
mount point and are accessible by each user directly or through links
placed in the user's home directory. This makes deletion very fast
because, in fact, it is only a renaming. To each filename in the trash can
is appended a time/version stamp.
Changes: A bug in undel that prevented it from working when the
destination directory for the files to be recovered did not exist was
fixed.

by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
Fri, Jul 15th 2005 20:54
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Electric Fence (efence) stops your program on the exact instruction
that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer. GDB will then
display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works by using the
virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of each buffer
- touch that, and your program stops. Catch all of those formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs that have been bothering you for years.
Changes: Bugfixes were made in memory management. New macros were provided
for new and delete. Functions for doing extra checks were added for
strdup(), memcpy(), strcpy(), strncpy(), strcat(), and strncat(). A new
EF_SHOW_ALLOC environment switch was included.

LaTeX, and Texinfo as output formats. Input and output formats can be
specified with a regular expression-oriented syntax.
Changes: Output language format specifications are now read at runtime so
that new output languages can easily be added dynamically (without
recompiling the sources) by using a simple syntax. LaTeX and TeXinfo
output formats have been added. Language definition has been debugged.
Language definitions for LogTalk and LaTeX have been added.

Software Development :: Testing
About: Navigation implements a design pattern that allows you to navigate
through complex systems by means of "navigation chains". Each node in the
navigation chain is represented as its own object, and can have any number
of child links attached to it (done through upwards linking; navigations
have no knowledge of their children). This means that you can create a
navigation chain to a common point in your system, and then attach
multiple subchains at that point. The proof-of-concept handles most HTML
navigation requirements, and is used by the author to test Web
applications.

[057] - Port Scan Attack Detector 1.4.2
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Fri, Jul 15th 2005 11:09
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
lightweight system daemons written in Perl and C that are designed to work
with Linux iptables firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect
traffic. It features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with
sensible defaults provided), verbose alert messages that include the
source, destination, scanned port range, begin and end times, TCP flags
and corresponding nmap options, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses via dynamic configuration of
iptables firewall rulesets. In addition, psad incorporates many of the
TCP, UDP, and ICMP signatures included in Snort to detect highly suspect
scans for various backdoor programs (e.g. EvilFTP, GirlFriend, SubSeven),
DDoS tools (mstream, shaft), and advanced port scans (syn, fin, Xmas)
which are easily leveraged against a machine via nmap. Psad also uses
packet TTL, IP id, TOS, and TCP window sizes to passively fingerprint the
remote operating system from which scans originate.
Changes: Bugfix for various IGNORE_* keywords not being honored. Updated
to version 0.2 of the IPTables::ChainMgr module. Updated to not truncate
the fwdata file upon psad startup. --fw-dump, which produces a sanitized
(i.e. no IP addresses) version of the local Netfilter policy, has been
added. ulogd data collection mode has been added. There is a bugfix for
FW_MSG_SEARCH default (at least "DROP" is included now, even if
FW_SEARCH_ALL is set to "N"). Email alert prefixes (such as
"[psad-alert]") are customizable via psad.conf.

[063] - ReleaseForge 0.9.1
by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
Fri, Jul 15th 2005 14:17
About: ReleaseForge is a GUI application designed for project
administrators and release engineers of projects that are hosted at
SourceForge. It is intended to make it easier and faster to create a new
release and edit existing releases rather than using the SourceForge Web
interface. It streamlines the release effort by prompting you for
information regarding your new release (version info, change log, release
notes, files to include, etc). It then seamlessly negotiates with the
SourceForge Web server, creating your release, posting your release
notes/change log, uploading your files to the SourceForge FTP server,
selecting the files for inclusion in your release on the SourceForge Web
server, updating the file attributes of each of the files and then, if
appropriate, notifying monitoring users of the new release.
Changes: This release attempts to "guess" the SourceForge CPU (Processor)
type of each file added to a release based on its filename. A batch update
facility was added that allows the user to quickly modify the status
(hidden or active) of multiple releases. Context sensitive menus
(right-click) have been added to the main window's projects and packages
(listviews). This release also checks for Windows $HOMEDRIVE and $HOMEPATH
environment variables on startup if $HOME is not found.

Fri, Jul 15th 2005 01:48
System :: Archiving :: Compression
Utilities
About: SCZ is a set of simple, portable, light-weight file compression and
decompression utilities. Simple compress and decompress subroutines can be
linked and called within applications to compress or unpack data on the
fly. These functions can also be used through stand-alone utilities. The
initial set of routines implements a lossless compression algorithm, so
restoration and decompression are perfect.
Changes: This version was completely overhauled. The architecture was
streamlined. Compress/decompress routines are available for file2buffer,
buffer2buffer, buffer2file, and file2file. Speed and scalability were
greatly improved. End-to-end checksums were added. The algorithm is
block-based to compress large files in sections. Streaming modes are
supported. Multiple files are handled, and SCZ-Utilities can process whole
directories. The Web documentation has been updated and enhanced with a new
"how-it-works" page containing design and format information.
