Database :: Front-Ends
About: anymeal is a cookbook database front-end. It can handle more than
100,000 recipes, and can search recipes for a given set of ingredients. It
is designed to be lean and flexible.
Changes: The automake build files have been adapted to the kdevelop
development environment to make integration in KDE easier. There was a
bugfix in the scripts for detecting the location of the
docbook-xsl-stylesheets. The performance of the category-table in the
database has been improved and selection/deselection of a group of recipes
is now faster.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: AudienceConnect::E-Zine is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution
for independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. AudienceConnect can be extended to deliver any digital
content such as sound and image files. Installation is very simple, as no
database technologies are used.

[006] - Conary 0.61.2
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Sat, Jul 16th 2005 13:51
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: The most user-visible change in Conary 0.61.2 is that the fairly
common error about @update when running conary updateall has been
resolved, at least for most cases. Also, Conary displays progress output
during a few more potentially long-running operations. The commitaction
script has been improved. Some repository ACL bugs were fixed.

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property that holds at a certain point or
points in a program - these are often seen in assert statements,
documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be useful in
program understanding and a host of other applications. It runs a program,
observes the values that the program computes, and then reports properties
that were true over the observed executions. It can detect properties in
Java, Perl, C, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet files, and in other data
sources.
Changes: The dynamic comparability analysis in Kvasir was improved (it
indicates which variables interact with one another). A
--var-select-pattern switch was added, a variety of bugs were fixed, and
enhancements were made.

About: DTDParse is a tool for processing SGML and XML DTDs. The primary
motivation for writing it was to provide a framework for building
documentation for DTDs, but other applications are easy to imagine.
Changes: This is the first non-beta release of the rewrite of dtdparse
0.97. DTDparse reads an SGML or XML DTD and constructs an XML database of
its content. This database can be examined to construct other views of the

[011] - EDIWriter 1.0
by nicanor (http://freshmeat.net/users/nicanor/)
Sat, Jul 16th 2005 15:25
About: EDIWriter provides the ability to generate EDI output from an XML
document of the kind produced by its companion product, EDIReader. ANSI
X12, EDIFACT, and HL7 are supported. Instead of providing a complex set of
configuration options for EDI syntax choices (terminators, delimiters,
version numbers, etc.), the user simply provides a sample EDI interchange
along with the XML document containing the business content. EDIWriter
then uses the sample as a template, greatly simplifying the task of
generating EDI compliant with the needs of a particular partner.

[012] - Efax-gtk 3.0.3 (Stable)
by Chris Vine (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvine/)
Sat, Jul 16th 2005 13:33
About: Efax-gtk provides a GUI frontend for the efax fax program. It
interfaces with efax directly, replacing the scripts supplied with efax,
and can be used for receiving and sending faxes, and for viewing,
printing, and managing faxes which have been received and sent. It also
has a socket interface that provides a "virtual printer" for sending faxes
from word processors and similar programs, and can automatically e-mail a
received fax to a designated user and automatically print a received fax.
Changes: A settings option was provided to omit the destination fax number
from the fax page top header line. Some fixes for 64-bit systems were made.
Some (harmless) warnings from gcc-4.0 were fixed. Other minor fixes were
done.

by Puckfist (http://freshmeat.net/users/puckfist/)
Sat, Jul 16th 2005 23:49
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: FuncPlotter is a combined Java application and applet for
displaying two-dimensional plots of explicit functions in one variable
(i.e., functions of the form y = f(x), where f(x) is an arbitrary function
composed from a set of common mathematical operators). Up to 20 functions
can be plotted simultaneously, and sets of functions can be loaded and
saved.
Changes: This version is essentially the same as version 1.0.0 except that
it has been converted to use the new Java language features that were
introduced in JDK 5. It is no longer compatible with JRE 1.4. If you have
JRE 1.4 and don't want to switch to JRE 5.0, you can use FuncPlotter

About: GNU Libidn is an implementation of the Stringprep, Punycode, and
IDNA specifications defined by the IETF Internationalized Domain Names
(IDN) working group. It is used to prepare internationalized strings (such
as domain name labels, usernames, and passwords) in order to increase the
likelihood that string input and string comparison work in ways that make
sense for typical users throughout the world. The library contains a
generic Stringprep implementation that does Unicode 3.2 NFKC
normalization, mapping and prohibition of characters, and bidirectional
character handling. Profiles for iSCSI, Kerberos 5, Nameprep, SASL, and
XMPP are included. Punycode and ASCII Compatible Encoding (ACE) via IDNA
are supported.
Changes: The macro AX_CREATE_STDINT_H that is used to create idn-int.h has

Other/Nonlisted Topic
About: K8000 Event Language (KEL) is a programming environment for
Velleman's K8000 board. It is a compiled language, designed to be fast and
responsive, for controlling and automating processes. It is powered by the
Linux operating system as a multi-threaded application. One available
application is a complete house alarm that can send alerts through email,
SMS, or voice messages. It can also drive devices like an outside alert
lamp or a siren.
Changes: The k8005 stepper motor control was added to the KEL language.
These boards connect to the k8000 main interface via the i2c bus and can
be used simultaneously with a running KEL program. This release also
corrects minor problems with the AD inputs. A gentoo set of ebuilds are
available for libk8000, libk8005, and kel; K8005 is compiled with the

System
About: radlib is a C language library developed to abstract details of
interprocess communications and common Linux/Unix system facilities so
that application developers can concentrate on application solutions. It
encourages developers to use a proven paradigm of event-driven,
asynchronous design. By abstracting interprocess messaging, events,
timers, and any I/O device that can be represented as a file descriptor,
radlib simplifies the implementation of multi-purpose processes, as well
as multi-process applications. In short, radlib is a sincere attempt to
provide real-time OS capability on a non-real-time OS.
Changes: The license was changed to a BSD type of license instead of the
GPL, so radlib can be incorporated in proprietary designs freely with no
license obligations other than inclusion of the BSD-style licensing
notice. The radlib API reference was updated to include recent additions
of PostgreSQL support and the TCP socket API. The radSocketClientCreate
function was changed to explicitly set non-blocking I/O during connects so
that the connect can be timed out properly. The socket is set back to
blocking mode (the default) after the connection succeeds.

Security
System :: Logging
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Ssh-faker is a wrapper for sshd to defeat brute force hacking. This
program is meant to be called from /etc/hosts.deny when anyone connects to
port 22 (ssh). If the person doesn't send a plaintext password (using
telnet), the attempt is logged and the connection is dropped. If they send
the right password, they are added to /etc/hosts.allow, and their next
attempt will reach the real sshd. This will block most hackers and worms,
assuming none of the computers listed in /etc/hosts.allow have been
compromised.

[067] - Unnamed Math Program 0.7.4
by Mattias Hultgren (http://freshmeat.net/users/tize/)
Sat, Jul 16th 2005 00:40
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Ump is a program in which all sorts of calculations can be done,
from the simplest to the more advanced. It handles complex numbers and
matrices of those. The complex numbers are built up by either floating
point values or ratios of arbitrary sized integers. Ump also draws graphs,
ordinary, polar, and parameter, which is done through an easy to use user
interface. It's also possible to write your own functions using the built
in editor.
Changes: This version features a new "Connected without asymptotes" plot
mode, a new syntax for manipulating arrays, matrices, and strings,
executable ump-files, and speed improvements. Install and uninstall rules
were added to the Makefile.

[069] - wview Vantage Pro Weather System 1.6.0
by Mark Teel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mteel/)
Sat, Jul 16th 2005 15:44
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering
About: wview is an application that controls a Davis Vantage Pro or
Vantage Pro2 weather station console to retrieve archive records and
current conditions. Archive records may optionally be stored in a
relational database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). At a user-defined interval,
wview will use the archive history and current conditions to generate
weather images (buckets and graphs) and Web pages based on configurable
HTML templates. It supports serial and USB data loggers, as well as
connectivity with a terminal server or serial server via TCP sockets.
Changes: CWOP (Citizen Weather Observer Program) support was added.
Properly formatted APRS CWOP data packets are transmitted to the
user-defined APRS server with the arrival of each new archive record. This
allows wview to send a valid High Wind Speed value for the last archive
interval, something Weatherlink does not populate at all. See the User
Manual for full details on enabling CWOP support.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Xplosion is a Web site engine whose purpose is to be as simple as
possible while providing Web developers with easy installation and
building of their own content, design, and application logic. It avoids
complexity to make it easier for a Web developer to modify it. It also
avoids mixing the API code with HTML to encourage clean design. This "Yet
Another Engine" tries to innovate by using technologies that are not yet
mainstream in Web development, like the PEAR Flexy Template engine.

Sat, Jul 16th 2005 23:28
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: Zapping is a TV viewer for GNOME that supports Video4Linux,
Video4Linux2, and XVideo. It's extensible through plugins.
Changes: The deinterlace plugin has been completely converted to vector
intrinsics, with MMX, 3DNow!, SSE, and SSE2 optimized routines. Support
for x86-64 SSE2 and AltiVec has also been added, but not fully tested yet.
Scalar implementations are now available for CPUs without SIMD extensions.
A crash during deinterlacer initialization, in the VTX Teletext export
function, and the soundcard mixer code has been fixed. The fullscreen
capture mode works again. Teletext double width characters display
correctly. Video capturing now works with drivers providing fewer buffers
than previously required.
