by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
Sun, Jul 17th 2005 15:08
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells
About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <<+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation. For GUI dialogs or layout, it adds a GTK+2 interface.
Changes: The GTK+2 interface is now stable, so this release enables
setting of shell variables and running of shell commands. Windows will be
deleted if the parent window is deleted. A full list of widgets and syntax
is available from the internal help file, e.g. 'help gtk'.

[008] - DOM Tooltip 0.7.1
by Dan Allen (http://freshmeat.net/users/mojavelinux/)
Sun, Jul 17th 2005 13:19
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: DOM Tooltip allows developers to add customized tooltips to Web
pages. The tooltips are controlled through style class definitions and
respond to events such as "mouseover", and avoids possible collisions with
form elements such as select boxes and screen edges. While originally
designed to create context tooltips, it is also possible to create a wide
variety of dynamic layers, such as embedded windows, context menus, and
hidden blocks. Additional features include sticky tips, tooltip fading,
lifetime, relative positioning, class assignments, width adjustments,
mouse dragging, captions, directionality, offset adjustments, adjustable
activate/deactivate delay times, snapping to grid, fate adjustment (hide
or destroy), and references to created tips. It supports
Mozilla/Netscape6+, IE 5.5+, IE on Mac, Safari, Konqueror, and Opera 7.
Changes: This release fixes edge detection in IE, a problem where tooltips
disabled links and buttons on the page, and a wrapping problem in Opera and
IE. The conflicting prototype function clone() has been removed. Changed to
new fading library to improve support for Safari. A HOWTO reference
document has been added. The license has changed to Apache 2.0.

by Christian Bauer (http://freshmeat.net/users/cebix/)
Sun, Jul 17th 2005 04:12
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: GiNaC (GiNaC is Not a CAS (Computer Algebra System)) is a C++
library for symbolic calculations. It is designed to allow the creation of
integrated systems that embed symbolic manipulations together with more
established areas of computer science (like computation-intense numeric
applications, graphical interfaces, etc.). Contrary to other CASes it does
not try to provide extensive algebraic capabilities and a simple
programming language but instead accepts a given language (C++) and
extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.
Changes: gcd() avoids producing expanded expressions and
collect_common_factors() now works with powers. Bugs in expanding
expressions containing dummy indices and library initialization have been
fixed.

Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: This release fixes various critical bugs. In particular, it fixes
a bug in the bandwidth management that results in gnunetd using more
bandwidth than the specified limit. It also fixes i18n problems in
gnunet-gtk. The frequency of session key exchanges was reduced to a sane
level. It fixes various segmentation violations, a possible stack

verbosity level, which reduces the danger of hidden failures. It also adds
support for the MNG TERM chunk, updates support for the SAVE and BACK
chunks, incorporates patches for Mac OS and RISC OS, and fixes a number of
bugs.

[032] - psycopg 2.0b4 (Development)
by Federico Di Gregorio (http://freshmeat.net/users/fog/)
Sun, Jul 17th 2005 07:25
Database
Software Development :: Libraries
About: psycopg is a PostgreSQL database adapter for the Python programming
language. Its main advantages are that it supports the full Python DBAPI
2.0 and it is thread safe at level 2. It was designed for heavily
multi-threaded applications that create and destroy lots of cursors and
make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or UPDATEs. The psycopg
distribution includes ZPsycopgDA, a Zope Database Adapter.
Changes: The main module has been renamed from "psycopg" to "psycopg2".
Most of the bugs reported for 2.0b3 were fixed.

[034] - Redet 6.11
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)

Software Development
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) is a tool
for developing and executing regular expressions using any of more than 20
search programs, editors, and programming languages. For each program in
each locale a palette showing the available regular expression constructs
is provided. The features of each program are determined by running a test
suite, which guarantees that they will be correct for the particular
program version and the user's locale. Executed expressions are recorded
in a history list, from which entries may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. This allows complex regular
expressions to be developed in pieces. It fully supports UTF-8 Unicode as
long as the underlying program does.
Changes: All known bugs involving bash and tcsh have been fixed. In
particular, the palettes generated are now correct.

"sorcery" offers advanced package management, but retains the choices,
options, and control not offered by many other distributions.

GPG checking to function properly, and a fix for a race condition when

[041] - Task Coach 0.42
by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
Sun, Jul 17th 2005 13:23
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.
Changes: This release fixes several bugs and changes one feature: the
start date of a task can now be left unset, creating a task that is
permanently inactive. This can be useful for activities that you would
normally not want to plan, but have to keep a time record for, e.g.
sickness.

About: Transolution is a Computer Aided Translation (CAT) suite supporting
the XLIFF standard. It provides the open source community with features and
concepts that have been used by commercial offerings for years to improve
translation efficiency and quality. The suite is modular to make it
flexible and provides an XLIFF Editor, translation memory engine, and
filters to convert different formats to and from XLIFF. The use of XLIFF
means that almost any content can be localized as long as there is a
filter for it (XML, SGML, PO, RTF, StarOffice/OpenOffice, etc.).
