Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
About: The AmavisNewSQL SquirrelMail plugin gives you per-user control of
a subset of SpamAssassin settings which are stored in a database. It also
allows you to use a quarantine database for questionable mail. This plugin
was designed with enterprise use in mind, and differs from other plugins in
that it works with amavis-new rather than SpamAssassin directly. Most of
the code lives in an external class that you can reuse in your own admin
tools. It even has support for SOAP calls to perform common tasks.
Changes: This release fixes problems with unowned messages in the
quarantine DB. It includes scripts that will clean up the mess you might
have now. It changes how new users are added to the system, and has
changes to support virtual domains under SQM.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
About: NessusWC provides a simple HTTP Web interface to the Nessus
Security Scanner. It connects to local or remote Nessus version 2 daemons
via SSL (using OpenSSL libraries), retrieves the plugins, configures a
scan for a single target host, and saves the results in HTML format. As
a result, even users with limited security knowledge can scan their
machines. Scan results are stored in a central place.
Changes: Introduction of scan templates. Scan templates allow you to
define a scan configuration (the list of enabled plugins) under a template
name. Scans can be more easily standardized and repeated (e.g. to check for
compliance). The template file format is identical to the NessusWX windows
client program. Session configuration files exported from NessusWX can be
copied into the templates directory and used without changes. 9 example
templates are included. NessusWC scans can be scheduled to run by cron.

[047] - novi 1.1.0
by ExMT (http://freshmeat.net/users/emt/)
Mon, Jul 18th 2005 08:33
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution Tools
System :: Systems Administration
About: novi is a tool for finding the latest-version RPMs in a tree. It
can be used to create Kickstart trees or yum repositories that contain the
updated RPMS. In the case of Kickstart, this means machines come to life
with the updates already applied. Using novi for a yum repository trims
the size of the repodata files, which reduces client download and
processing time.
Changes: novi can now read RPM header info from Repository Metadata
(repodata) files. For repositories that don't change (such as OS install
media) this offers a significant performance boost: novi can parse a
single XML file instead of reading all of that repository's RPMs.

[048] - OMake 0.9.6
by Aleksey Nogin (http://freshmeat.net/users/nogin/)
Mon, Jul 18th 2005 04:46
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: OMake is a build system with a similar style and syntax to GNU make
but with many additional features, including support for large projects
spanning multiple directories, default configuration files simplifying the
standard compilation tasks, support for commands that produce several
targets at once, fast, reliable, automated, scriptable dependency analysis
using MD5 digests, portability, and built-in functions that provide the
most common features of programs like grep, sed, and awk. It also
provides active filesystem monitoring that restarts builds automatically
when source files are modified. A companion command interpreter that can
be used interactively is included.
Changes: This release added "static" sections that are evaluated once
(useful for configure-style scripts). :value: dependencies where a target
depends on a computed value rather than a file were added. Rule execution
now fails when any shell command fails, even those in nested sections.
Regular expressions now handle \(...\) arguments correctly. Lexer
performance was improved. .SUBDIRS bodies that can be used instead of the
OMakefile in a subdirectory were added along with a vmount function that
defines a "virtual mount" of one directory over another. A large number of
other bugfixes and improvements were made.

management features. An included client gives the user visual feedback
about all actions with nice little popup windows.
Changes: This release makes the power management control scripts POSIX

The mountpoint search routine was improved. It finds the mountpoint now
even if the CD-ROM link contains a relative device path. The volume
control is more comfortable now. It changes the volume level in bigger

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
About: Privateer gives you the freedom to carve your own path in the Wing
Commander universe. Opportunity abounds in the Gemini Sector. Wedged
between the unknown frontier and the Kilrathi Empire, Gemini is home to
various competing factions with which you can choose to align yourself.
Upgrade your ship or trade it in to deal with the demands of a Privateer.
Find your fortune by logging into the mission computer, or take your
chances with seedy characters in bars. Meet up with Sandoval in New
Detroit, tilt back a glass with Demetria in a Munchen bar in the
Tingerhoff System. Make your way as a trader, traitor, bounty hunter, or
pirate. Only you can imagine what you might encounter beyond the
frontier.
Changes: New Refinery, Mining Base, Kamekh, Drayman, and Orion art was
added. The targetting system was redone and is now more like the original.
Radar range was reduced and all ships now have 2D wireframe HUD images and
damage is shown by quadrant. The ship dealer now also functions as he did
in the original. The auto-light now turns off when you are close to your
destination. When a ship that is communicating with you is destroyed, its
message now gets cut off. Asteroids can now be destroyed and mined. The
repair bot was fixed. 'Unknown' ships are there for the Righteous Fire
campaign.

by kindman (http://freshmeat.net/users/kindman/)
Mon, Jul 18th 2005 06:48
System :: Archiving :: Compression
Utilities
About: SCZ is a set of simple, portable, light-weight file compression and
decompression utilities. Simple compress and decompress subroutines can be
linked and called within applications to compress or unpack data on the
fly. These functions can also be used through stand-alone utilities. The
initial set of routines implements a lossless compression algorithm, so
restoration and decompression are perfect.
Changes: This branch contains scripts for testing SCZ compress/decompress
routines. It contains a generic test-data generator for testing,
benchmarking, or comparing compression methods. It can generate random
binary data files with arbitrary sizes and with arbitrary amounts of
compressibility. By testing SCZ routines with thousands of different files
of various sizes, we gain confidence in SCZ's correctness and efficiency.
The regression tests can be quickly re-run whenever any improvements to
SCZ are proposed, to verify that it continues to work properly.

by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
Mon, Jul 18th 2005 09:11
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: Split-Dist calculates the number of splits (edges) that differs for
two trees. When you construct phylogenetic trees using slightly different
methods, or from slightly different input data, the trees will not
agreecompletely on the topology. When they differ, it is interesting to
know where they differ, i.e. which edges can be found in both trees and
which cannot.

distance and similarities can be weighted with the length of edges, so
long edges weigh more in the distance than short edges.

easy to set up and includes highlighting, linking support in man pages,
browsing and searching of pages, categories, and manuals. It can also
optionally set up a database containing descriptions of pages from the
page titles.
Changes: This release is suited to this only serving local man pages. The
default config will interface only with the local database. modman can be
simply dropped directly into your Web space. You can still add more
manuals as usual, but now you can decide whether to use already existing
whatis/windex files or the faster mandb.php-generated db4 (or similar)

System :: Software Distribution Tools
About: whohas is a command line tool that allows you to query several
package collections at once. It currently supports Arch, Debian, Gentoo,
and Slackware repositories. whohas was designed to help package
maintainers find ebuilds, pkgbuilds, and similar package definitions from
other distributions to learn from. However, it can also be used by normal
users who want to know which distribution provides certain packages, and
which version of a given package is in use in each distribution or in each
release of a distribution.
Changes: This release can query the Arch official and user repositories
(AUR), Debian binary, Gentoo, and Slackware Current.

[098] - WidgetServer 0.7.4
by dvdw (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)
Mon, Jul 18th 2005 11:54
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A unified widget-based, object-oriented programming
interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to the developer to control
and assemble the GUI, instead of struggling with HTML, JavaScript, and
HTTP requests, or the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications, the framework handles client/server communication, including
compression and security layers. A GUI-builder is included.
Changes: This release makes dialogs, internal frames, and application
frames generate reshape events on demand. A bug in the builder's
contextMenu has been fixed, and the split panel generates an event if the
slider has been moved.

[101] - XINS 1.2.3 (Stable)
by Ernst de Haan (http://freshmeat.net/users/znerd/)
Mon, Jul 18th 2005 07:44
Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: Various bugs were fixed, including a major one in which the
_float32 and _float64 types did not support non-positive numbers.

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: YALE (Yet Another Learning Environment) is a flexible Java
environment for machine learning and data mining. Many nestable learning
and preprocessing operators (including Weka) are provided. It features
an XML-based graphical user interface, a plugin mechanism, and 2D and 3D
plotting, and provides an easy to use extension mechanism that makes it
possible to integrate new operators and adapt the system to your personal
requirements. A command line version is also included.
Changes: This version includes a huge number of major improvements. More
than 200 operators are provided for data mining and machine learning.
Several new feature filters and discretization methods were added. In
addition, YALE provides a set of new parameter optimization operators. A
new data management and statistics system improves the performance and
decreases memory usage. Therefore, YALE can now handle bigger datasets.
Another major improvement is the operator "JViToPlotter" which allows 2D
and 3D plots of high-dimensional data and models. Weka 3.4.5 and LibSVM
2.8 were also integrated.
