[001] - 2D/3D Area Graph for PHP 4.6
  by Patrick OBrien (http://freshmeat.net/users/patobrien/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 10:01

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: 2D/3D Area Graph for PHP provides a very easy way to embed
dynamically generated area graphs and charts into PHP applications and
HTML Web pages. The graphing software is very easy to use, and it's
perfectly possible to add professional quality real time graphing to Web
pages and applications within minutes.

Changes: The area graph will automatically calculate any properties which
are not supplied, including the graph scales. The graphing mode may be set
to either 2D or 3D and there are a variety of point symbols to choose from.
Other features in this release include dual y-axis, trend lines, target
lines, and automatic legend generation.

Communications
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
System :: Systems Administration

About: AFD is a program to automatically distribute files either locally
or to remote hosts. The files are distributed by using FTP or SMTP, and
can be sent in parallel and with priority. It provides a GUI to monitor
and control the distribution and extensive logging of all activities.

Changes: This release fixed an error in FIFO size calculation that
prevented the program from running correctly on 64-bit systems. In FTP
ASCII mode, the existence of carriage returns is now checked instead of
blindly adding them.

[003] - ARSC Really Simple Chat 3.0.2-rc2
  by Manuel Kiessling (http://freshmeat.net/users/pgod/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 23:53

Communications :: Chat

About: ARSC Really Simple Chat is a Web chat system that uses PHP and
MySQL. It works with every browser in existence, even text-based ones, and
it uses the server push technique or, if possible, its own socket server.
It is very simple to install and use ARSC. It includes some important
features, such as operators, kick-ing, whispering, and more. Multiple
rooms and different languages are available. To run ARSC on your site, you
need a Web server that understands PHP, and can connect to a MySQL
database.

Changes: Stability and performance were notably improved. A basic refresh
version without any JavaScript was added. A version which utilizes
XMLHttpRequest was added. Greek, Spanish, French, Portuguese (Brazil),
Jugoslovenski, and Dutch language files were added. Two non-critical bugs
were fixed. A basic set of documentation was added.

System :: Archiving

About: atool is a script for managing file archives of various types (tar,
tar+gzip, zip etc). The main command is aunpack, which extracts files from
an archive. It overcomes the problem of extracting files from an archive
without checking whether the files were located in a subdirectory or in
the top directory of the archive, resulting in files scattered all over
the place by first extracting to a new directory. If there was only a
single file in the archive, that file is moved to the original directory.
It also prevents local files from being overwritten by mistake. The other
commands are apack for creating archives, als for listing files in
archives, and acat for extracting files to standard out.

  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 03:13

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: BLD stands for "blacklist daemon" and is intended to serve a
blacklist. The blacklist is built by simply inserting IP addresses or by
using submission rate limits based on a maximum number of submissions of
the same IP address within a minimum time interval. A BLD cluster can be
built by configuring the daemon to notify other similar daemon(s) every
time an IP address is added to the blacklist. BLD was primarily designed
to fight against dictionary-based spam (by making the MTA report to BLD
any host that tries to send email to an unknown user), but can be used by
any program.

Changes: This release includes a security fix and contributed code
cleanups.

[011] - ccbuild 0.9.5
  by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 06:44

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and compiles them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Real deployment/distribution should still be done with other tools. As an
added bonus, it can create simple Makefiles and graph dependencies using
DOT (graphviz) graphs.

Changes: A bug in the -C argument parsing was fixed. As a new testing
feature, MD5 hashes are used instead of time stamps. All rules for single
source makefile generations were removed.

[016] - DenyHosts 0.9.7
  by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 23:59

About: DenyHosts is a script intended to help Linux system administrators
thwart ssh server attacks. DenyHosts scans an ssh server log, updates
/etc/hosts.deny after a configurable number of failed attempts from a
rogue host is determined, and alerts the administrator of any suspicious
logins.

Changes: A bug with respect to handling of rotated files was fixed. The
daemon-control-dist script now optionally accepts command line arguments
to be passed to the "start" and "restart" functions. (For example,
"daemon-control start --config=test.cfg --debug".) A duplicate email
report bug in --daemon mode was fixed. The daemon configuration parameters
DAEMON_SLEEP and DAEMON_PURGE can now be given in the same format accepted
by PURGE_DENY. Running in daemon mode now dumps preferences to the log
file. Purged entries from HOSTS_DENY are also removed from WORK_DIR/hosts.

  by Dark Logic (http://freshmeat.net/users/darklogic/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 23:54

Security :: Cryptography

About: EverCrack is a cryptanalysis engine. The overall design goal is to
systematically break down complex ciphers into their simplex components
for cryptanalysis (by the kernel). The kernel consists of an algebraic
design (comparison and reduction) for breaking uniliteral, monoalphabetic
ciphers instantaneously. Currently, it can break a 500-word cipher in less
than 500 miliseconds. EverCrack currently has multi-language support for
the user interface and cracking encryption in other language dictionaries
(English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, and
Portuguese).

Changes: The capability to convert a multiliteral monoalphabetic
substitution cipher into uniliteral form for cracking by the kernel was
added. Two sample ciphers for utilizing this feature have been included
(multi1.txt and multi2.txt).

About: Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports
operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any
device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python,
Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows
the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the
thresholds functionality includes warning by emails and user defined
scripts. Any part of the visible data can be archived in an SQL database
by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over
time can be made available from Web pages, common spreadsheet software,
etc.

Changes: When the GUI is in real time mode, graph and statistics viewers
now keep data cell history internally so that they are not lost during
viewer mutations and creations. The database range dialog box now includes
a calendar widget. Font handling and preferences were improved, especially
on Windows, where they now follow the control panel settings. Other minor

  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 23:35

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. Aggregation of IP traffic revolves around the concept of primitives
(VLAN id, source and destination MAC addresses, IP addresses, networks, AS
numbers, ports, ToS field, and IP protocol are supported) that may be
employed alone or arbitrarily combined with others to form complex
aggregation methods. It supports custom historical breakdown, packet
sampling, filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap
(and promiscuous mode if required), NetFlow v1/v5/v7/v8/v9, and sFlow
v2/v4/v5 are supported.

Changes: Support for the sFlow v2/v4/v5 protocol has been introduced, and
a new "sfacctd" daemon has been added. The implementation includes support

[055] - pyRadar 0.2
  by John D (http://freshmeat.net/users/bpcjohnd/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 23:31

Scientific/Engineering

About: pyRadar is retrieves and displays radar images from NOAA's NEXRAD
radar stations, which are located around the United States and its
territories. These images are released into the public domain on behalf of
the American public.

Changes: The -bc branch of pyRadar was created for backwards compatability
with older Python and PyGTK versions. If you are having trouble running
pyRadar, you should try the pyRadar-0.2-bc release. An error where
~/.pyradar/NOAA-Stations.csv was overwritten on each launch of pyRadar was
corrected. This allows users to create custom station files by removing
unwanted entries from the file. The ability to install pyRadar wherever
the user likes was added. The Windows developement code was removed from
the stable Linux codebase.

[056] - QtOIDUA 0.08
  by Kevin McKernan (http://freshmeat.net/users/ScreamKev/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 03:14

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis

About: QtOIDUA is a graphical user interface for OIDUA, an Audiolist clone
that generates lists of audio files based on their location in a directory
tree. It supports all features of OIDUA, and makes it easy to create
fields, add directories, choose colors, and set options. Users can even
save list configuration files so that they can easily recreate any
previously created list.

Changes: Options that the allow user to specify whether a new file, the
previously opened file, or a specific file is to be loaded on startup were
added. A bug that caused options to be enabled and disabled improperly
under specific conditions was fixed. The icon was resized slightly so that
it better fits in both Linux and OS X. The icon is now displayed in Linux
if supported by the user's window manager. It is no longer necessary to
manually copy the icon into the application bundle and edit the Info.plist
file when compiling in OS X. A logo was added to the About window. Other
small changes and cleanups were made.

[058] - rsyslog 0.9.4
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 06:53

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, and
fully configurable output formats (including great timestamps). It is
designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to
work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features
require changing the config file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: Syslog/TCP support was completed. The TCP sender has been
implemented, allowing rsyslog to be used in all parts of the relay chain.
Note that TCP/syslog allows syslog traffic to be encrypted quite easily. A
tutorial can be found at http://www.rsyslog.com/rsyslog_stunnel.html.

[059] - runit 1.3.0 (Development)
  by Gerrit Pape (http://freshmeat.net/users/pape/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 01:43

System :: Boot :: Init

About: runit is a daemontools alike replacement for SysV-init and other
init schemes. It currently runs on GNU/Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris,
and can easily be adapted to other Unix operating systems. runit implements
a simple three-stage concept. Stage 1 performs the system's one-time
initialization tasks. Stage 2 starts the system's uptime services (via the
runsvdir program). Stage 3 handles the tasks necessary to shutdown and halt
or reboot.

Changes: This release introduces a first test version of the sv program,
which can be used to control the state and query the status of services
monitored by runsv. Optionally, it can be sym-linked into /etc/init.d/ to
provide an interface to LSB init script actions for services controlled by
runit. The man page was updated with details. Instructions on using runit
under launchd on Mac OS X 10.4 were added to the documentation.

  by Eugene Kurmanin (http://freshmeat.net/users/smfs/)
  Mon, Jul 25th 2005 22:23

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: smf-zombie is a Sendmail filter designed to reject spam and viruses
from zombie PCs. This filter blocks up to 95% of the mail sent by
spam/virus engines, checks the sender's IP address with a reliable RBL
(cbl.abuseat.org), safely rejects "alien" bounces without violating any
RFC, rejects messages for undisclosed recipients, and rejects harmful
attachments to prevent a virus from spreading. This filter aims to be
lightweight, reliable, and simple rather than have a myriad of options.

worked incorrectly or was absent on some platforms. Cosmetic enhancements
were made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing

About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.

Changes: This is another bugfix release based on feedback from beta
testers. Test cases recorded with an earlier build of Trainer 2.8 beta
will need to have the Dynamic Fields Wizard re-run before playback will be
successful. Most of the bugs fixed were in the dynamic fields wizard.
