Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: @Mail is a fully-featured WebMail server, allowing users to send
and receive email via a Web browser or WAP device. It has full support for
IMAP/POP3 mailboxes, and an optional email-server mode that uses Exim as
the MTA. Features include a scheduler, MySQL backend support, spell-check,
addressbook, user preferences, multiple accounts, Spamassassin support,
migration scripts from other mail servers, a customizable interface, an
attractive DHTML interface, an optional group Calendar/Addressbook, an
Outlook 2000/2003 plugin to sync Contacts/Tasks/Calendar data between a
desktop client and Webmail.

Changes: Read-receipt functionality was added for the Mozilla XUL and IE
interfaces. Iconv support for international character sets was improved.
Session handling was updated for the Outlook Sync utility for
addressbook/calendar data. The PGP detection routines for messages and
timezone calculation module were updated.

[002] - BalanceNG 1.390
  by Thomas Obermair (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomasobermair/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 02:36

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which allows almost any protocol to
be supported.

Changes: The position of the "gateway" configuration line in config file
has been changed. Users should upgrade.

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <&lt+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation. For GUI dialogs or layout, it adds a GTK+2 interface.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that returns NULL in ${var|,} which is
CSV splitting. Also, obsolete embedded Python has been removed.

[006] - Clustered JDBC 2.0rc1
  by Emmanuel Cecchet (http://freshmeat.net/users/cecchet/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 12:55

Database
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Database :: Front-Ends

About: Clustered JDBC provides high availability and performance
scalability for databases. It provides transparent database clustering
(partitioning, replication, etc.) to any Java application through JDBC. It
works with any Java application without code modification and with any
database engine. It has been successfully tested with Tomcat, JBoss,
JOnAS, WebSphere, MySQL, PostgreSQL, HSQL, SAP DB, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MS
SQL Server, Firebird, and more.

Changes: This releases provides a new driver/controller protocol that does
not use Java serialization anymore. The backup/restore infrastructure has
been completely refactored. The command line console has been redesigned
with new advanced features for managing virtual databases. New distributed
recovery features have been implemented, and the documentation has been
updated on these aspects. Many fixes for better JDBC compliance are also
part of this release. The scheduling for stored procedures has also been
improved, and the metadatacache consistency is now more robust.

  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 01:39

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
Communications :: Usenet News
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: DeleGate is a multi-purpose application level gateway or proxy
server that mediates communication of various protocols (HTTP, FTP, NNTP,
SMTP, POP, IMAP, LDAP, Telnet, SOCKS, DNS, etc.), applying cache and
conversion for mediated data, controlling access from clients, and routing
toward servers. It translates protocols between clients and servers,
applying SSL (TLS) to arbitrary protocols, merging several servers into a
single server view with aliasing and filtering. It can be used as a simple
origin server for some protocols (HTTP, FTP, and NNTP).

Changes: The SSL-tunnel on an HTTP proxy was made safer by disconnecting
when non-SSL packets are detected. Configuration data was made safer by
being encrypted. A lot of minor bugs were fixed.

[012] - exifprobe 2.0.1
  by dhh (http://freshmeat.net/users/dhh/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 12:03

Utilities

About: Exifprobe reads images produced by digital cameras or similar
devices and reports their structure and the auxilliary data and metadata
contained within them. The program understands several image file formats,
cooked and raw, including TIFF, JPEG, MRW, CIFF/CRW, JP2/JPEG2000, RAF, and
X3F, and will read most TIFF-derived formats including EXIF, DNG, ORF, CR2,
NEF, K25, KDC, and PEF. MakerNote sections found in Exif IFDs are reported
and expanded if the note is in a semblance of TIFF IFD format. Information
which has been published on the internet is used to interpret notes where
possible.

Changes: This release includes code cleanup and bugfixes for the 2.0
release. It also includes enhancements for Minolta MakerNotes (especially
A1 and A2) and improvements in handling of "compressed-by-tile" JPEGs
observed in some DNG files.

  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 12:51

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: eZ publish is an open source content management system and
development framework. As a content management system (CMS) it's most
notable feature is its revolutionary, fully customizable, and extendable
content model. This is also what makes it suitable as a platform for
general Web development. Its stand-alone libraries can be used for
cross-platform, database independent PHP projects. eZ publish is also well
suited for news publishing, e-commerce (B2B and B2C), portals, and
corporate Web sites, intranets, and extranets. eZ publish is dual licenced
between GPL and the eZ publish professional licence.

Changes: In the kernel, the eZContentObject::clearCache() method was
added, which can be used to clear all in-memory caches (for a given
object). A check for PHP version 4.4 was added, which gives information
about that is not supported for this eZ publish version. The check will
deny usage of eZ publish on this PHP version.

[031] - Magellan Metasearch 1.2.0
  by badibouzouk (http://freshmeat.net/users/badibouzouk/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 01:33

Communications
Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management

About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.

Changes: Automated clustering has been added. Search results are now
automagically sorted in virtual folders according to their metadata (such
as source, author, original date, hostname, TLD). Full lists of clusters
can be shown in order to perform in-depth volume analyses and to extract
tendancies from search results. A cluster selection is associated to a RSS
feed so that users can focus on monitoring only the most pertinent parts of
their requests. The Google Groups driver has been updated in order to
follow the search engine's updates. A bug has been fixed with HEAP tables
under MySQL 3.x.

[032] - Magnolia 2.1 RC3
  by magnolia (http://freshmeat.net/users/obinary/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 03:05

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Magnolia is a JSR-170 based CMS, available in 15 languages. It
combines the advantages of Web-based software (like zero client
installation) with the usability of desktop software. All functions can
easily be activated in context sensitive menus or via drag'n'drop. It runs
on all common operating systems (JDK 1.4.1 or later required), and is
available as a double clickable installer or drop-'n-deploy Java
Enterprise Edition war file. No additional software or databases are
needed.

Changes: A number of bugfixes and enhancements were made. The most notable
bugs that were fixed include a missing release() on CMS tags, activated
content remaining invisible until the container is restarted, the value of
the "Last Modified" HTTP header failing to change upon activation, and the
inability of DialogMVCHandler to handle arbitrary nodeCollections as

[035] - msort 8.3
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 02:36

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities

About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected either by position or
by tag. For each key, distinct sets of exclusions, multigraphs, and a sort
order may be defined. Comparisons may be lexicographic, numeric, by string
length, date, or time. Optional keys are supported. Msort uses the Unicode
character set and provides full Unicode case-folding. The basic program has
a somewhat complex command line interface, but it may be driven by an
optional GUI.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in msort introduced in version 8.0 that
causes apparently random segmentation faults with optional keys. It also
fixes a minor bug in case-folding and a bug in the GUI that interfered
with sort order specification. The GUI now does a better job of
identifying the operating system and of adapting itself to Tk-Aqua under
Mac OS X. Some small additions of features and updates were made to the
documentation.

  by pierlooqup (http://freshmeat.net/users/pierlooqup/)
  Tue, Jul 26th 2005 12:42

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3
System :: Hardware

About: PyGogear is a tool for using the Philips GoGear MP3 players under
Linux. The GoGear Philips HDD0xx series of MP3 players can be mounted with
the usb-storage module, but merely copying MP3 files onto it is not enough,
since the player needs to read information about the tracks from a Sqlite
database file, usually named MyDb. This program reads the necessary tags
(either ID3v1 or ID3v2) from the MP3 files placed on the player and
inserts them in the database. M3U playlists are supported.

Changes: The code was almost completely rewritten for a more
object-oriented design. Docstrings were added for the main stuff. When a
bad MP3 file is encountered, the file simply gets skipped (printing some
string). M3U playlists are now supported. Error handling and reporting
were improved. The general method "getId(id_field.table, field_to_match,
match)" was introduced, and is used to get one entry's id from any given
table (instead of "make_artist(...)", "make_album(...)", and similar).
Other minor changes were made.

replays them during testing. It comes with support for cookie handling,
HTTP authentication, concurrency testing, digital certificates, and a
number of simple tests, such as cookie setting, pattern matching, response
status, and many others. It also provides the concept of result analyzer
components and capabilities for maintaining smoke and regression test
suites.

Changes: Fixes were made to interceptor.pl. A leftover zombie issue was
eliminated. Request hangs are prevented in some extreme cases. Host and
port determination in interceptor.pl were fixed. The
"HEADERS_PATTERN_SUCCESS" and "HEADERS_PATTERN_FAIL" out-of-the box tests
were added.

Another Engine" tries to innovate by using technologies that are not yet
mainstream in Web development, like the PEAR Flexy Template engine.

Changes: Unicode UTF-8 support was added. HTML 4.01 Transitional was
dropped in favor of XHTML 1.1. MySQL 4.1.x is supported. Code cleanups and
