System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: ABISS (Active Block I/O Scheduling System) is an extension for the
Linux kernel that implements priorities for disk IO operations, and that
provides a means for applications to use these priorities to obtain
real-time (e.g. a guaranteed data rate) and prioritized best-effort
services. The kernel code is supported by a user space daemon and a
library.
Changes: This version was updated for Linux 2.6.12. A real-time graphing
option was added along with improved debug messages.

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
About: Doodle is a desktop search engine for Linux. It searches your hard
drive for files using pattern matching on meta-data. It extracts
file-format specific meta-data using libextractor and builds a suffix tree
to index the files. The index can then be searched rapidly. It is similar
to locate, but can take advantage of information such as ID3 tags. It is
possible to do full-text indexing using the appropriate libextractor
plugins. It also supports using FAM to keep the database up-to-date.

[009] - fcron 2.9.7
by Thibault Godouet (http://freshmeat.net/users/fcron/)
Thu, Jul 28th 2005 08:25
System
About: Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing
vixie cron, so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume
that your system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for
instance, tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system
uptime or to do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can
also set a nice value to a job, run it depending on the system load
average, and much more.
Changes: Since 2.9.6, the tzdiff option was replaced by the timezone
option, which correctly supports DST changes. A bug which made fcron send
empty email messages on very up-to-date systems was fixed. Some other
minor changes and bugfixes were made. If no serious problem are reported,
this release will be marked as stable 3.0.0.

look and feel of SoftIce for MS Windows. It is designed for people who are
already familiar with SoftIce, but anyone can quickly get used to it. It
can break into a running kernel at any time using a hotkey and supports
breakpoints and single step on modules, the kernel, or user programs. It
supports the VGA frame buffer, the X Window System, serial connections,
and monochrome adapters.
Changes: A bug in linsym where getlogin() would return NULL for some
kernels has been fixed. This fixes a linsym segfault reported by a number
of users.

Information Management :: Records Management
About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.
Changes: The Google Groups driver has been updated in order to follow the
search engine's output URL format update.

About: mod_gcj is an attempt to get Java running within an Apache module
using the GNU Compiler for Java (GCJ) runtime library. Since GCJ compiles
Java down to native code, it has a much smaller memory footprint and
faster startup time than traditional Java VMs.
Changes: This version adds major new features like support for HTTP
parameter parsing, advanced HTTP header processing including parsing, and
setting of Cookies and Date headers. In combination with GCJ 4.0, mod_gcj
should now be ready for deployment of real-world Web applications.
Documentation has also been greatly enhanced since the 0.5 release,

expressions to be developed in pieces. It fully supports UTF-8 Unicode as

Thu, Jul 28th 2005 08:08
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.
Changes: The biggest addition in this release is extensive vCard parsing
support, including Mac OS X style property groupings, UTF-16 encoded
vCards, and quoted-printable properties. Several improvements were done to
the WebDAV layer, and the IMAP4 client library was extended to support
access control lists. Xcode projects of SOPE were upgraded to the Xcode
2.1 (Tiger) format, and various gcc 4.0 related warnings were fixed. SOPE
applications can now be linked against WebKit ones (the DOM conflict was

[069] - WANPIPE beta12-2.3.3 (Beta)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Thu, Jul 28th 2005 02:53
Communications
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System
About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.
Changes: The TDMV AFT A104 card now properly shuts down on uniprocessor
systems and drivers now unload cleanly on AMI Wink setup. TDMV AFT A102
line drops have been fixed. Major bugfixes were made to the ADSL drivers.
Drivers and installation were updated for the Itanium64 kernel. Wanpipe
now compiles against partial kernel headers and will work properly with
recent versions of Fedora and SuSE. Support for Linux 2.6.12 was added. A
compile option was added to allow the disabling of the TE1 front-end
transmitter.

Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Wechselspieler is a tool for mapping motion data from a video
stream onto sound events in the MIDI and OSC protocols. It features a GUI
for easy selection of trigger regions in a video stream and mapping these
to individual sound events. It supports various video input sources, such
as Video4Linux devices, movie files, and FireWire cameras. As output, it
supports ALSA based MIDI devices and the UDP based OSC (OpenSoundControl)
protocol for integration with MIDI hard/software and OSC-capable software
like PD, SuperCollider, and Max/MSP.
Changes: A new dialog was added for simple creation of a greater number of
trigger regions. Easier installation was implemented. Regions now stay
"triggered" for a number of frames, which is important for difference
image binarisation.
