  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 23:15

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Page layout was improved and a new '%%combinevoice' command was
added.

  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 01:07

Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental features include support for WAP
browsers and standalone operation without Apache, and the my.anyterm.org
service provides access without the need to install anything on your
servers.

Changes: Anyterm's standalone daemon can now be cross-compiled and has
been run on the Linksys NSLU2, opening the possibility of embedded
Anyterms. Some improvements were made to the handling of control
characters.

  by kleinmatic (http://freshmeat.net/users/kleinmatic/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 07:46

Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: apachegrep helps you search your Apache common/combined logs for
various bits of information. Built in the spirit of Unix tools, it's
designed to be used standalone or as part of a pipeline of tools to go
over logs and print entire lines, specified fields, or a simple count of
matching lines. You specify which field you want and what regular
expression you want applied to that field.

Changes: A '-a' flag that changes the sense of multiple conditions from OR
to AND was implemented.

[009] - Asymptote 0.91
  by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: Default function arguments are now evaluated in the scope where
the function is defined, not in the scope of the caller. The depth
handling of deferred LaTeX labels was fixed. The positioning of 3D axes
labels was improved and an example showing tick and axis label rotation
was added. An error in the man page regarding the -t option was fixed. The
write function was generalized to handle an arbitrary number of data
values. The processing of GUI files was fixed. User-specified ticks now
also work with logarithmic axes. The arguments of LeftTicks and RightTicks
were standardized.

[010] - BMP 0.12-RC3 (BMPx)
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 23:14

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is an audio player that tries to maintain a stable audio
playback core with a powerful, yet easy-to-use remote API using DBus,
while also providing a skinned, yet easy and understandable user interface
with the core GUI.

Changes: Code cleanups were made in all parts of the application, all
reported bugs were fixed, sanity checks for graceful failure when necesary
were introduced, and the build system was overhauled. The DBus API was
extended to allow clients to add and remove tracks from the playlists. An
ICCCM-compliant "system tray" icon was introduced using code from GTK+2
CVS HEAD. The program can now run as a daemon without requiring an X
server. An experimental ncurses-based example client was introduced.

[012] - collectd 3.0.0
  by Florian Forster (http://freshmeat.net/users/flocto/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 04:58

System :: Monitoring

About: collectd is a small daemon which collects system information every
10 seconds and writes the results in an RRD-file. The statistics gathered
include: CPU and memory usage, network interface traffic, and system
temperatures (using lm-sensors).

Changes: Network functionality was added. Clients can multicast their
values to one or more servers that write the actual RRD files, while
local-only operation is still possible. The binary was split into one main
executable and plugins (shared objects) to minimize dependencies.

  by herrekberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/herrekberg/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 12:39

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Comix is a comic book viewer. It reads zip, rar, tar, tar.gz, and
tar.bz2 archives (often called .cbz, .cbr and .cbt) as well as normal
image files.

Changes: The "file" dependency is no longer needed; all MIME type checks
are now done internally. An error in the .desktop file has been fixed. The
install.py script now uses "update-desktop-database" to update the menus
properly.

About: Compface provides utilities and a library for converting to and
from the X-Face format, a 48x48 bitmap format used to carry thumbnails of
email authors in a mail header.

Changes: CRLF endings in the sources were fixed. configure.in was moved to
configure.ac and the obsolete constructions were rewritten. 'make install'
was fixed and now works on Cygwin (requiring the EXEEXT variable from
'configure').

[015] - Conary 0.62.12
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 13:33

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: A bug that affected only a few packages but could invalidate
cryptographic signatures has been fixed. A bug that could lose files when
switching between flavors has been fixed. Many improvements were made to
the interface for shadowing and specifying versions in several contexts.

[017] - Cream for Vim 0.33
  by digitect (http://freshmeat.net/users/digitect/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 23:11

Text Editors
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: Cream is a configuration of the famous Vim text editor that makes
it easier to use, like an Apple- or Windows-style text editor. It uses
Vim's own extensibility to improve menus, keyboard shortcuts, and editing
behavior. Cream seamlessly maintains Vim's insertmode to access all the
power of the original Vim plus many custom Cream extensions.

Changes: This minor release features greatly improved speed in multi-file
find/replace, new date/time insertion formats with a simpler entry method,
better performance across slow connections, a new Polish file encoding
option, and Column Mode selection dragging. Other refinements include a
new HTML page structure template, better empty line collapsing and
removal, a more frequently updated Diff Mode, smoother installers, and
many bugfixes.

Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation

About: Doxygen is a cross-platform, JavaDoc-like documentation system for
C++, C, Objective-C, C#, Java, IDL, Python, and PHP. Doxygen can be used
to generate an on-line class browser (in HTML) and/or an off-line
reference manual (in LaTeX or RTF) from a set of source files. Doxygen can
also be configured to extract the code-structure from undocumented source
files. This includes dependency graphs, class diagrams and hyperlinked
source code. This type of information can be very useful to quickly find
your way in large source distributions.

Changes: This release adds built-in support for STL, so you do not have to
include the STL headers or make dummy STL headers anymore. The look of the
navigation bar at the top of each page has changed, along with the
structure. Many bugs have been fixed.

[024] - FuncPlotter 1.1.1
  by Puckfist (http://freshmeat.net/users/puckfist/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 01:06

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: FuncPlotter is a combined Java application and applet for
displaying two-dimensional plots of explicit functions in one variable
(i.e., functions of the form y = f(x), where f(x) is an arbitrary function
composed from a set of common mathematical operators). Up to 20 functions
can be plotted simultaneously, and sets of functions can be loaded and
saved.

Changes: The title and menus of the main window are no longer updated
after every file modification check. When the number of errors reported in
the error list dialogue box exceeds the maximum, the correct number of
errors is now displayed in the dialogue's title bar. The default directory
field in Preferences now supports drag-and-drop. System properties (of the
form ${key}) are now recognised in the path name. The location of the
function dialogue box is now saved between invocations. In the function
dialogue, the Paste button is enabled according to the contents of the
clipboard.

Communications :: Email :: Address Book

About: The Gordano Messaging Suite (GMS) is a highly flexible and reliable
suite of messaging products. Customers can choose which components meet
their needs from email, Webmail, collaboration, instant messaging,
calendaring, SMS, and list server software all of which can be
complimented by high level anti-spam, anti-virus, and archiving options.

Changes: Unlike managed and appliance-based solutions that only look for
the presence of malware within incoming messages, the system now ensures
protection at all points of access. Messages are scanned when they arrive
on the server via SMTP and also when they are retrieved using POP, IMAP,
WebMail, or Collaboration. Messages and attachments appended to the server
using IMAP, WebMail, and Collaboration are also scanned. Scanning is also
included in the included HTTP Proxy server. Support for Sender Policy

About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating as an
Apache module or Java Servlet filter, its purpose is to increase Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic

[056] - Movie Guide 2.1.1
  by Richard Lawrence (http://freshmeat.net/users/ralawrence/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 05:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Movie Guide is a custom channel for offline Web browsers such as
AvantGo, iSilo, or Plucker. It was designed to provide you with detailed
listings of all films showing in cinemas across the UK and the United
States. Movie Guide is an alternative to the "Showtimes" application on
the Palm Pilot. Since it generates HTML pages which can be used by any
offline Web browser, Movie Guide can be used on Palm Pilots, Pocket PCs,
WinCE, and Symbian devices.

Changes: The code was updated to cope with changes to the Web site from
which cinema data is gathered. A bug that caused subtitled films to
corrupt the listings was fixed.

About: OSSP cfg is a ISO-C library for parsing arbitrary C/C++-style
configuration files. A configuration is sequence of directives, each
directive consists of zero or more tokens, and each token can be either a
string or again a complete sequence. This means the configuration syntax
has a recursive structure and allows you to create configurations with
arbitrarily-nested sections. The configuration syntax also provides
complex single/double/balanced quoting of tokens,
hexadecimal/octal/decimal character encodings, character escaping, C/C++
and shell-style comments, etc. The library API allows importing of a
configuration text into an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST), traversing the AST,
and optionally exporting the AST again as a configuration text.

About: Serving XML provides a pipeline language for declaratively
adapting content to XML, transforming it through a chain of XSLT
stylesheets and SAX filters, and producing a stream of output to a local
or remote destination. The accompanying console app supports reading
content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX events, and writing
it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This software is especially
suitable for converting flat files to XML, with its support for variant
record types, multi-valued fields, namespaces, hierarchical grouping of
records, row-by-row validation with XML Schema, and much more. There is
also an API for embedding the software in a Java application.

  by edscott (http://freshmeat.net/users/edscott/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 00:15

About: Xfdiff is graphic interface to the GNU diff and patch commands. It
allows you to view differences side by side for files or directories. You
can also view differences that applying a patch file would imply, without
having to apply the patch. You can also apply patches to the hard disc or
create patch files for differences between files or directories.

Changes: The Xfdiff package was separated from the xffm file manager.
Multithreaded processing of the diff command was implemented.

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Xmlbeansxx is a set of tools for binding XML to C++ objects. It
contains a code generator, which tranforms XML Schema to C++ classes. It
is open, memory safe, fast, and well-tested.

Changes: The main goal with this release was to get closer to Java
implementation (XMLBeans). The internal structure has changed a lot. The
handle body pattern was applied to generated classes and to the xmlbeansxx
implementation. TypeStore was implemented. Ptr typedefs (like XmlObjectPtr)
were replaced by XmlObject / XmlObject_I classes. Basic XmlCursor support
was added.

Desktop Environment
Utilities

About: xpad is a paperless substitute for leaving sticky notes, index
cards, or "post-it" notes all over your desk. It opens small text boxes on
the X display so that notes can be written and then left to be read later.

Changes: Toolbar buttons are now smaller, and the toolbar will now appear
inside a pad if there is enough space. The program no longer crashes when
deleting pads with an auto-hide toolbar. Slovak and Slovenian translations
were added.

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Xrefactory provides code completion, source browsing, and
refactoring functions for Emacs, XEmacs, and jEdit. It is based on full
pre-processing, parsing, and static analysis of sources and works with the
C, C++, and Java languages. It contains a stand-alone cross referencer, and
a generator for HTML documentation.

Changes: This release fixed a bug that occurred when the browser went into
a state where it was unable to recognize any symbols. A few implementation
constants were increased to make it possible to parse larger projects.

[091] - xsd 1.4.0
  by Boris Kolpackov (http://freshmeat.net/users/bosk/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 05:04

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. It generates a
vocabulary-specific, statically-typed C++ mapping (also called binding)
from XML Schema definitions. The mapping consists of data types that
represent the given vocabulary, a set of parsing functions that convert
XML instance documents to a tree-like in-memory data structure, and a set
of serialization functions that convert the in-memory representation back
to XML. xsd features C++ standard library-based language mapping,
configurable base character type (char/wchar_t), support for all XML
Schema built-in types, custom Schema to C++ namespace mapping,
platform-independent generated code, and more.

Changes: Support for xsd:list was implemented. Anonymous type morphing was
enabled for the C++/Tree backend. Support for statically-typed IDREF/IDREFS
types using the refType Schema extension attribute was also implemented.

[092] - YACY 0.41
  by Michael Christen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Orbiter/)
  Tue, Oct 4th 2005 05:08

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: YACY is a distributed Web crawler and also a caching HTTP/HTTPS
proxy. Pages that pass through the proxy are indexed and can be searched
using a built-in HTTP server. YACY peers connect each other and form a
P2P-based index exchange network based on distributed hash tables.
Explicit web crawls can be done locally or collaboratively, forming a
global search and distributed indexing engine for the Web. It also
provides URL filtering with blacklist sharing among other proxy peers,
individual Web/servlet page hosting, a file sharing zone, and a database
engine.

Changes: Connection of peers over different time zones is now supported,
distribution of search indexes over all peers into a distributed hash
table was implemented, and database performance was massively enhanced,
resulting in better indexing and search speed. Crawls to target domains
are now load-balanced and robots.txt from indexing sources is obeyed. A
new YaCyNews system distributes and coordinates cooperative crawling tasks
and provides all peer owners with an information broadcast function.
