enhance the packaged software such as binreloc and relaytool are provided.
By providing an autopackage, developers can ensure their users always have
an easy way of installing the latest release of their software.
Changes: Fixes a bug related to GTK+ icon caching that was causing install
failures on a few distributions. Fixes a problem with MIME typing. Fixes a
bug that broke autopackage on Ubuntu Breezy. Improves the installLib()

Software Development :: Libraries
About: GNU Portable Threads (Pth) is a very portable POSIX/ANSI-C based
library for Unix platforms providing non-preemptive priority-based
scheduling for multiple threads of execution ("multithreading") inside
server applications. All threads run in the same address space, but each
thread has its own individual program-counter, run-time stack, signal mask
and errno variable. The scheduling is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the
threads are dispatched based on priority and pending events. The event
facility allows threads to wait until various types of events occur,
including pending I/O on filedescriptors, elapsed timers, pending I/O on
message ports, thread and process termination, and even customized
callback functions.

About: GNU Transport Layer Security Library is a library which implements
a secure layer over a reliable transport layer such as TCP/IP. It
implements the TLS 1.1 and SSL 3.0 protocols, accompanied with

Changes: Libgcrypt 1.2.2 is required to fix a bug for forking GnuTLS
servers. If you pass a X.509 CA or PGP trust database to the command line

validation fails. Use the parameter --insecure to continue even after
certificate validation failures. The PKCS #12 API handles null passwords.

[031] - libferris 1.1.61
by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Fri, Oct 7th 2005 11:06
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems
About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with event
updates using fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb,
LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators
include image, audio, and animation decoders.
Changes: Annodex EA and mounting support. Federated eaindex support. The
ability to mount kword and kspread files, as-text support for RTF, TEX,
OO, PS, and koffice. The test suite has moved to a separate package. There
are new tail and head clients, updates for ferriscp, and minor updates for
curl, PostgreSQL, and eet plugins. getHomeDirPath_nochecks() now caches
when not in setuid mode. mysql++ API usage has been updated to
mysql++-1.7.40. ferris-setup-template-findex-database.sh has been updated.
There is a new custom lexicon using Boost::multimap.

[035] - Necessitas 0.4.0
by Kevin O'Neill (http://freshmeat.net/users/kevinoneill/)
Fri, Oct 7th 2005 00:06
About: Necessitas is an Eclipse plug-in that adds a class-path container
to manage a projects jars using the ivy dependency manager. It gives you
all of the advantages of ivy without leaving Eclipse. It will download the
jars your project depends on and add them to your projects classpath. You
can optionally have it automatically update your classpath whenever a
change is made to the ivy module.
Changes: Start-up time was greatly reduced. Ivy was updated to 1.2a to
take advantage of the new "cache only" operations. The plug-in will
attempt to assign source archives if they are available. You can check for
updated dependencies without downloading them. Ivy messages are available
while updating. Lots of internal cleanup was done.

[036] - NoMachine NX 1.5.0-70 (Server)
by NXAdmin (http://freshmeat.net/users/NXAdmin/)
Fri, Oct 7th 2005 05:19
Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development
About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the Internet.
Changes: This is the second 1.5.0 maintenance release of NX server. It
includes improved support for a number of applications, like IntelliJ,
BeanShell, Wine, PerlTK, and XView. Fixes were made for handling of the
"norender", "slow", and "fast" options when specified in the server
configuration. It also fixes the scripts shipped in the Solaris server,
the CUPS backend on AMD64 architecture, and detection of session status in
case of abnormal termination.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: PTM is a Perl/HTML hybrid language, written entirely in Perl, and
similar to PHP in tag syntax. It allows for the ease of PHP-style inline
code in your dynamic HTML documents, while supplying the power of Perl
that many find to be sorely lacking in PHP. PTM's parser application,
referred to as the PPA, acts as an Apache plugin, a standalone parser
placed in the cgi-bin, or a command line parser (for debugging purposes),
and is distributed for both Unix and Window platforms. Additionally, PTM
wraps many variables common to PHP to ease the transition between PTM and
PHP when switching back and forth.
Changes: Single function set database support was added, with nearly 100
database types supported, including MySQL, MS SQL, mSQL (Mini SQL),
Oracle, Sybase, Informix, and ADO [Jet SQL]. Full cookie-based session
management was added. PTM sessions allow for a packaged group of cookie
values to be stored while a user is surfing, allowing for all types of
site customization and user tracking potential with unique, scrambled ID
numbers. Additionally, custom user PTM/Perl modules are now supported.

Storage of the markup used in the database was changed to IDs instead of
name strings, and there is a new "markups" table. Table users are
obsolete; only the md5users table will remain unaffected. The use of
<button> was changed to <input>. <lucidTag:page_style_link/> was replaced

[049] - Tablix 0.3.0
by Tomaz Solc (http://freshmeat.net/users/Avian/)
Fri, Oct 7th 2005 16:00
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Tablix is a powerful free software kernel for solving general
timetabling problems. It uses a coarse-grained parallel genetic algorithm
in combination with other techniques to construct sensible timetables from
XML formatted problem descriptions. Tablix can run on a single host as well
as on a heterogeneous parallel virtual machine using PVM3. The default
installation will export finished timetables into XHTML 1.1 format ready
for publishing on the Internet, or into a "comma separated values" format
(CSV) that is suitable for import into a spreadsheet application and
further processing. The kernel supports a very wide range of timetabling
problems, from high school timetabling to barge scheduling. Several
timetable constraints are already implemented in the default installation.
Because of the kernel's modular design, it is easy to add custom timetable
constraints and/or modify existing ones.
Changes: The kernel was completely rewritten and is no longer limited to
solving only high school timetabling problems. The genetic algorithm was
changed to better handle very constrained problems. The XML parser was
rewritten to support a new problem description file format. An automatic
fitness module documentation system was added. The user's manual and
HOW-TOs were updated and extended.
