[001] - AntiVirus Scanner 0.7.1
by Tara Milana, Wolfpack Entertainment
(http://freshmeat.net/users/learfox/)
Sat, Oct 8th 2005 02:06
Security
About: AntiVirus Scanner is an anti-virus scanner for Endeavour Mark II
that uses the ClamAV library (libclamav). It allows you to create a list
of scan items for frequently scanned locations and features easy virus
database updating, all in a simple GUI environment.
Changes: API compliance was updated for ClamAV 0.87 per a security
advisory. Antivirus engine version reporting was added to the about dialog
and a bug that caused a failure to update via the net with improperly
configured freshclam installations was fixed. Improper setups are now
reported.

[002] - Apache Evasive Maneuvers Module 1.10.1
by Nuclear Elephant (http://freshmeat.net/users/jzdziarski/)
Sat, Oct 8th 2005 16:45
Security
About: The Apache Evasive Maneuvers Module is a module for Apache 1.3 and
2.0 that provides functionality for detecting and fighting off DoS, DDoS,
and brute force attacks. This is done by maintaining a fast,
memory-resident list of addresses and query frequency. Malicious addresses
are added to an accumulating-delay "403 List" where rapidly repeated
requests are rejected based on the configured policy. This module can be
configured to talk to ipchains, ipfilter, or any other tool designed to
squash the attack in the network layer. It provides email notification in
the event of an attack.
Changes: IP Whitelisting has been fixed in the Apache 1.3 module. The
initialization routines were corrected to prevent the module from
re-initializing occasionally. The documentation and code were cleaned up.
The module was renamed to simply mod_evasive.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Arch-Perl allows Perl developers to create GNU Arch front-ends in
an object oriented fashion. GNU Arch is a decentralized,
changeset-oriented revision control system.
Changes: Arch-perl can now take advantage of bazaar's caching
functionality when retrieving changesets and commit logs. The annotate
function can list revisions that don't contribute to the file anymore.
Missing documentation and a few more test cases have been added. The
internal managing of arch sub-processes has been simplified. Support for
baz-1.4.2 and tla-1.3.3 was added.

by Jan Engelhardt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jengelh/)
Sat, Oct 8th 2005 04:17
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: AS_IPFW is designed to be a firewall API, but it also includes some
rulesets that can be used for certain setups. Special features include
recognition of all nmap scan types, proactive slowdown of such (50000% and
more), and the ability to provide back fake information to scans.
Changes: TCP flag analysis was adjusted and an option for ignoring SYN
scans on the internal network was added to work around problems where
(legitimate) Windows clients would sometimes make empty connections that
look like a SYN scan and therefore be locked out. They also set URG and
PSH flags on some TCP packets.

Sat, Oct 8th 2005 16:49
Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: AutoGen is a tool designed for generating program files that
contain repetitive text with varied substitutions. Its goal is to simplify
the maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text.
This is especially valuable if there are several blocks of such text that
must be kept synchronized. Output is specified with a Scheme-enhanced
output template. Input, if required by your template, may come from
AutoGen definitions, CGI data, or XML files.
Changes: Mmapped template files that are a multiple of the page size in
length now get an extra page of NUL bytes mapped in at the end. This
prevents strlen(3C) from segfaulting.

[011] - basE91 0.5.1
by Joachim Henke (http://freshmeat.net/users/johe/)
Sat, Oct 8th 2005 16:41
Communications :: Email
Internet
System :: Archiving
About: basE91 is an advanced method for converting binary data to ASCII
text. It is similar to UUencode or base64, but is much more efficient. The
overhead produced by basE91 depends on the input data. It amounts at most
to 23% (compare to 33% with base64) and can range down to 14% which
typically occurs on 0-byte blocks. This makes basE91 very useful for
transferring larger files over binary insecure connections like email or
terminal lines.
Changes: This version fixes Java-b91enc to handle file extensions case
insensitively, and introduces a native DOS assembly implementation of the
basE91 encoder.

front-end runs in a Web browser. It is intended to complement the skills
of the developer rather than to mask out the base languages. Its objective
is to implement reusable widgets in an easy-to-use front end.
Changes: The widget engine is now cleaner and faster. Both engine and
development studio run on both PHP4 and PHP5. The automatic installer does
most of the tedious work of setting up the system. This release includes a
large amount of documentation to help you develop PfP and develop with
PfP.

[032] - PhpCodeBuster 0.92
by Yrcimim (http://freshmeat.net/users/mloots/)
Sat, Oct 8th 2005 16:36
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: PhpCodeBuster is a PHP class to obfuscate your PHP code. This means
that the code is changed in such a way that it is very hard te reverse
engineer it into an understandable format. It produces PHP code with
normal syntax that is unreadable to the (normal) human eye but will
function correctly on any normal Web server. A nice feature of
PhpCodeBuster is the availability of debug settings. By using the debug
settings, you can check the obfuscated results while they are still
readable and make necessary changes to the original code.

[038] - SOPE Application Server 4.4.0
by OpenGroupware.org (http://freshmeat.net/users/helge5/)
Sat, Oct 8th 2005 00:47
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.
