Security

About: Antispyd is an HTTP/HTTPS threat filtering proxy server. The main
characteristic of this project is the modularity of his conception. The
program is organized around an HTTP/HTTPS gateway service and a set of
filters that can be enabled or disabled, and are all configurable with a
single configuration file. Current filters are: URL filtering, content
filtering, content-type filtering, cookie removal, pop-up removal, shell
code attack blocking, Web traffic anonymizing, and a signature-based
filtering engine. All filtering is done on the fly, without blocking
downloads in any case. It uses only POSIX primitives and is built with
autotools, and was created with security in mind.

[004] - audio convert 0.2.4
  by thetroublemaker (http://freshmeat.net/users/thetroublemaker/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 00:03

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: audio convert is a script that converts between WAV, Ogg, MP3,
MPC, FLAC, APE, and WMA files. It has an easy-to-use interface that
makes it possible to fill in the tags for a few formats and choose the
quality of compression. The script was initially designed for the
Nautilus file browser and can be easily installed into Nautilus by
copying it to the nautilus-scripts directory. You can then right- click
on files and choose "audio-convert" from the "scripts" menu. The script
is also known to work on rox or directly from a shell.

Changes: Files with dots in their name are now supported. A Polish
translation was added. The filetype checks were completely rewritten for
efficiency. Bugfixes were made.

  by tjsa (http://freshmeat.net/users/tjsa/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 08:25

Text Processing :: Filters
Utilities

About: bbe is a sed-like editor for binary files. Instead of reading input
in lines as sed, bbe reads arbitrary blocks from an input stream and
performs byte-related transformations on found blocks. Blocks can be
defined using start/stop strings, stream offset and block length, or a
combination. Basic editing commands include delete, replace,
search/replace, binary operations (and, or, etc.), append, and bcd/ASCII
conversion. For examining the input stream, it contains some grep-like
features like printing the input file name, stream offset, and block
number of found blocks. Block contents can also be printed in different
formats like hex, octal, ASCII, and binary.

Changes: A bug in c BCD ASC was fixed. p b was added. A typographical
error in the usage instructions was fixed.

[008] - BMP 0.12-RC6
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 04:35

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is an audio player that tries to maintain a stable audio
playback core with a powerful, yet easy-to-use remote API using DBus,
while also providing a skinned, yet easy and understandable user interface
with the core GUI.

Changes: BMP can now be built completely without dependency on GUI-related
libs (X11/GTK+) as a pure audio playback daemon that can be controlled
trough DBus with 3rd party frontends. URI parsing/storage was fixed to
avoid corruption of URIs containing non-ASCII characters. The DBus API was
updated once more, which now makes the remote interface nearly identical to
the internal interface through which the built-in GUI interfaces with the
player core. Furthermore, fixes in the flow control system were made.

About: Constrictor is a Python module for parsing, filtering, and
delivering mail as a mail delivery agent (like Procmail). Constrictor has
the ability to deliver to maildir and Unix mbox format mailboxes, as well
as bounce, forward, or reject messages.

Changes: A crash associated with empty "From" headers was fixed. A crash
associated with unsafe sanitation of pickling was fixed (this was
potentially a security risk, too). There are a few other minor bugfixes.
This release is in production use and might qualify as stable.

[012] - DUMA 2.4.24
  by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 20:45

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.

Changes: A new program 'testoperators' has its own member new/delete
operators with filename and line number forwarding to DUMA. tstheap_so,
which runs with a shared library, has been added to the makefile. The
output in the banner now shows which library (static/shared) is used.

[013] - dvd::rip 0.97.3 (Unstable)
  by Jörn Reder (http://freshmeat.net/users/jred/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 08:24

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: dvd::rip is a full featured DVD copy program written in Perl. It
provides an easy-to-use but feature-rich GTK+ GUI to control almost all
aspects of the ripping and transcoding process. It uses the widely known
video processing swissknife, transcode, and many other Open Source tools.

Changes: Subtitle handling was improved by optionally grabbing all
subtitle pictures while ripping the movie on the harddisk. A new command
line frontend was added to transcode your projects without any GUI, which
means that the operation is independent from any X server. Additionally, a
bunch of smaller bugs were fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: GeSHi is a generic syntax highlighter for PHP that takes any source
code and highlights it in XHTML and CSS. It features case-sensitive or
insensitive highlighting, auto-caps/non-caps of any keyword, an unlimited
scope for styling, the use of CSS in which almost any aspect of the source
can be highlighted, the use of CSS classes to massively reduce the amount
of output code, function-to-URL capabilities, line numbering, and much
more. Over 30 languages are supported, including Java, C, PHP, HTML, CSS,
SQL, Pascal, C++, XML, ASP, and ASM.

Changes: This release fixes a regression in heredoc support for PHP. It
also marks the end of the first development cycle heading towards a 1.2.0
stable release, so while limited in functionality, it is otherwise stable.
It contains support for syntax highlighting PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript,

[027] - Laughing Man 1.0
  by joeshortsleeve (http://freshmeat.net/users/Joeshortsleeve/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 13:19

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Laughing Man is an application that detects if a Web page has
changed. It uses a Web server's last modified date if available, and
generates a hash number based on the contents of the page.

Changes: This is the first release where nothing has changed in the
framework: there are only bug fixes at the controller level and minor user
interface tweaks, so it has been given the distinction of a 1.0. Some of
the bugs fixed include bookmark names being updated properly, cycling
through changed sites with the space bar is done in the proper order, and
the force hash check button has been "reconnected".

[028] - Le Petit Poucet 0.0.2
  by Antoine Hue (http://freshmeat.net/users/tonio_73/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 04:37

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: Le Petit Poucet is a program to display and edit GPS routes and
tracks in a 3D scene. The aim is to build the scene around the GPS data
and 2D maps or 3D terrain models.

Changes: Le Petit Poucet is now an independent GPS software and no longer
a kind of extension to Carte Sur Table. The display referential, projected
or not, and a mix of tracks with different projections may be selected. GPS
data may be loaded from a file or a receiver with GPSBabel. A waypoint
symbol library was added, and a 3D symbol is displayed for waypoints with
a symbol number. The library now has over 10 models, and anybody can
contribute. Open Scene Graph models may be loaded, for example, load the
Blue Marble model behind your track.

  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 13:04

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Netmonitor is a console application that monitors network
interfaces. It displays the transfer rate (upload and download) for each
device and the data consumed by each device. The main features of
netmonitor are low resource usage, a simple yet effective design, and an
easy to understand tabular output. It displays values whose units change
dynamically to scale with the value. Its compact display fits in a 9x66

Changes: This release implements force units on totals and data rates, and
updates the man page. The update functions now detect dev file overflow so
that calling a function doesn't have to. The get_xxRate functions now
detect a time limit of 0. Bugfixes for this version include a modified
structure and library to extend data limit overflow to greater than 1000

  by cliff (http://freshmeat.net/users/iamcliff/)
  Sun, Oct 9th 2005 00:09

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: shn2make works with sets of SHN or FLAC audio files and the make
program to automate the burning of archive and audio CDs, and the encoding
of MP3 and Ogg files. It finds the SHN or FLAC files in the current
directory and verifies the MD5 checksums. It then looks for the .nfo or
txt file, finds the song names, and matches the songs to the available
files. If everything is correct, it outputs the text of a Makefile. The
targets of the makefile automate the various tasks that need to be done
with SHN and FLAC sets. For example, "make Ogg" will uncompress and then
encode all the files in the set to named and tagged Ogg Vorbis files.

Changes: After writing an archive disc, shn2make mounts the CD and checks
the archived lossless files for errors. New arguments allow the user to
specify input, output, and working directories on the command line as well
as the path to the nfo/txt file to use. Subdirectories are scanned for
shn/flac files (only one level deep, by default). The program can work
from a torrent while you are seeding without polluting the seed directory.
Shn2make will no longer archive shows with errors without being forced. The
behavior of the lmadl backend was improved.

About: SWIG is a software development tool that connects programs written
in C and C++ with a variety of high-level programming languages. SWIG is
primarily used with common scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, Python,
Tcl/Tk, and Ruby, however the list of supported languages also includes
non-scripting languages such as C#, Common Lisp (CLISP, Allegro CL, UFFI),
Java, Modula-3, and OCAML. Also several interpreted and compiled Scheme
implementations (Guile, MzScheme, Chicken) are supported. SWIG is most
commonly used to create high-level interpreted or compiled programming
environments, user interfaces, and as a tool for testing and prototyping
C/C++ software. SWIG can also export its parse tree in the form of XML and
Lisp s-expressions.

Changes: New language modules: Lua, CLISP, and Common Lisp with UFFI. A
big overhaul to the PHP module. A change to the way 'extern' is handled.

About: TCPfork is a userland TCP proxy with advanced load balancing
capabilities. Its core features are the ability to load balance on a
"least connection" basis and the ability to take the machine load into
account ("least load" or "least resource" load balancing). This is
implemented by using the bngagent UDP protocol. It performs "TCP open"
health checks by default and allows the use of external health check
scripts. TCPfork 2.x introduces a highly optimized multithreading
connection scheduler, allowing fast processing of high numbers of
concurrent connections.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: toast is a simple package manager for Unix. It automatically
locates and downloads source code, determines how to compile it, installs
each package in its own directory tree, and makes the resulting binaries
available through an encap/GNU stow-like symlink tree. It also supports
binary packages. It is often used to install and manage software in a
non-root user's home directory.

Changes: This release features explicit ccache support, a new "toast find"
command, customizable package-finding heuristics, optional interactive
version selection, and a number of bugfixes.

delete records in your result set, to export to CSV, and to save or load
queries.

Changes: A bug in which a notetab was selected on a new query too early
was fixed. The query_font button is now present only once per window, not
for each query. Primary/unique keys were not correctly checked for

[059] - Yet Another Telephony Engine 0.9.0pre2
  by Paul Chitescu (http://freshmeat.net/users/pchitescu/)

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony

About: YATE is a telephony engine aimed at creating an telephony server
that performs well enough to deal with PBX requirements and also flexible
enough for complex Gateway and IVR solutions.

Changes: Support for the iLBC codec was added in both Linux and Windows.
The tone generator can generate DTMF sequences and arbitrary sums or
modulation of two sines, allowing generation of inband DTMF. The SIP and
H.323 channels attempt harder to accommodate error conditions. It is now
possible to initiate a graceful restart from the Remote Manager or by
sending signals to the daemon. The engine will wait until all plugins are
idle. Some problems compiling with gcc-4 or newer versions of Visual
Studio have been fixed.
