[001] - arpalert 0.4.11 (Release Candidate)
  by Thierry FOURNIER (http://freshmeat.net/users/fourniert/)
  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 04:24

Security
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: arpalert uses ARP address monitoring to help prevent unauthorized
connections on the local network. If an illegal connection is detected, a
program or script is launched, which could be used to send an alert
message, for example.

Changes: Privilege separation and chroot are now used and masks are now
applied to the files created. The program was ported to OpenBSD, FreeBSD,
and NetBSD.

Security
System :: Logging
System :: Systems Administration

About: authfail is a tool for adding IP addresses to an ACL when entities
from those addresses attempt to log into a system, but cause
authentication failures in auth.log. It reads data from auth.log in real
time and adds the IP into netfilter with a DROP/REJECT policy.

Changes: Whois lookup and email notifications were implemented.

  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 09:33

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: AXIGEN is a fast, reliable, and secure mail server with an open
architecture. It is designed for easy management and allows full control
of the email traffic from a central Web/CLI admin module. AXIGEN provides
ESMTP, IMAP, and POP3 services, and is tested for the standard mail
clients. A special Webmail module enables email access and delivery from
Web browsers. Full technical support from our team is provided to users
during the evaluation period.

Changes: A Webadmin module was added. A CLI module is available. The
location of the main configuration file was changed. Quota support was
added, both at the domain level and the user level. A limitation was added
for the number of mails that can be sent in one hour, both at the domain
level and the user level. The queue size is now configurable. The Incoming
and Outgoing SMTP modules can match both incoming and outgoing clients. A
"Force Queue" feature is available from the CLI and Webadmin modules. The
IMAP search function has been improved for speed.

Internet

About: BidNobble is an auction tool for eBay users. It tracks eBay
auctions and includes a snipe tool that allows you to schedule your bid to
be placed seconds before the auction ends, preventing the price from being
driven high early in the auction. It features a clock that is synchronized
to eBay time and secure login to eBay via SSL.

Changes: This version features the long anticipated sorting of auctions.

[005] - BMP 0.12-RC8
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 06:23

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is an audio player that tries to maintain a stable audio
playback core with a powerful, yet easy-to-use remote API using DBus,
while also providing a skinned, yet easy and understandable user interface
with the core GUI.

Changes: A VFS layer was introduced to allow location-independent access
to files. Work on this still is far from being complete, but the
foundations are there. In accord with this, file access subsystems were
separated into plugins which are used by the VFS, into transports (http,
file), and containers (m3u, pls, folder). Individual file items are an
exception and are currently not added through the VFS. A lot of
miscellaneous bugfixes were made.

  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 09:34

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Cayenne is a free object-relational persistence framework written
in Java. Its goal is to make development of database Java applications
faster and more consistent with the Object Oriented Programming concept.
Some of the ideas used in Cayenne have been inspired by the persistence
mechanism of NeXT's (and now Apple's) WebObjects application server.

Changes: M6 introduces a fully capable early release of "Multi Tier
Cayenne". DataContextFactory was added as a new way to customize
DataContext. A number of bugs were fixed. Note that JDK 1.4 is the minimum
requirement to run M6.

[012] - Conary 0.62.14
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 13:13

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release compresses XML-RPC requests for significant latency
improvements. It contains some system database updates, including
following the rename of the main Conary contributed software repository.
The clone facility has been significantly updated; in particular, it now
allows "sideways" cloning. Threaded downloads no longer hang when one
thread exits. (These changes are in 0.62.13 and 0.62.14; 0.62.13 was never
formally released.)

Contelligent implements a component based approach that allows reuse of
existing content, layout, and application logic in various contexts and
for new unplanned needs.

Changes: This release includes some minor bugfixes as well as some new
features. Feature enhancements include improved MIME type handling for
content served through HTTP, improved JMX administration for invalidating
Contelligent component-subtrees, and an improved cache introspection tool
through the JMX-Console.

  by Jan-Åke Larsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalar/)
  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 06:45

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: dvipng makes PNG or GIF graphics from DVI files obtained from TeX
and its relatives. Its benefits include speed; it uses very fast
bitmap-rendering code for DVI files. Furthermore, it does not read the
postamble, so it can be started before TeX finishes. It supports PK, VF,
PostScript Type1 (via FreeType or t1lib), and TrueType fonts (via
FreeType), color specials, and more.

Changes: This release fixes a font-handling bug and some build issues.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office

About: Elm Millenium Edition is an interactive mail system based on Elm
2.4. It contains enhanced MIME and character set support. It can read mail
from POP or IMAP folders and can pass mail to the PGP or GPG programs. It
can also view digests as a mailbox and reassemble fragmented
(message/partial) messages. It includes modules for TLS/SSL, iconv, and
SMTP.

Changes: This release fixes problem where some elmrc values were ignored
because init_defaults() was called twice. Now on the [include ...]
command, content-type is no longer required. This release adds support for
'*' wildcards in the alternatives list. That support was apparently lost in
the Elm2.4ME+ PL54 (25) version. This release collects changes from the Elm
2.4ME+ PL122d (25) version, and adds some compilation support for SunOS (or
Solaris).

Documentation
Software Development :: Documentation
System

About: The Heirloom Documentation Tools package provides troff, nroff, and
related utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on
terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the
utilities released by Sun as part of OpenSolaris, which are a variant of
ditroff, which, in turn, descends from the historical Unix troff. While
consuming relatively few system resources, troff provides advanced
typographical features such as kerning, tracking, and hanging characters.
Internationalized hyphenation, paper sizes, and UTF-8 input are supported.

Changes: Support for OpenType fonts has been added. This includes support
for CFF-based (PostScript) OpenType fonts as well as support for most
TrueType fonts. The new "otfdump" utility prints the contents of OpenType
font files just as troff interprets it. OpenType features, such as small
capitals or old-style numerals, can be accessed using the new ".feature"
request.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP extension for PHP allows building absolute URIs, RFC-compliant
HTTP redirects, RFC-compliant HTTP date handling, parsing of HTTP headers
and messages, caching by "Last-Modified" and/or ETag (with an 'on the fly'
option for ETag generation from buffered output), sending
data/files/streams with (multiple) ranges, negotiating user-preferred

PHP5 classes: HttpUtil, HttpResponse (PHP-5.1), HttpRequest,
HttpRequestPool, and HttpMessage.

Changes: The documentation was updated. An optional third parameter was
added to HttpRequest::__construct() to accept an array with options.
Compression functions were added. http_support() was added for probing
features that depend on external libraries. http_absolute_uri() was
renamed to http_build_uri(). The negotiator signature was changed to fill

System :: Installation/Setup

About: slack-get is a toolbox like apt-get for Slackware Linux. It will
support an indexing system for use on non-standard packages. It also
supports a Perl/Qt GUI, which requires perlQt.

Changes: The "daemon stop bug" was fixed. An alpha version of the plug-in
system was included along with support for internationalization (French
and English are currently supported). Some little bugs in the GUI were
fixed and LocalEditor, a GUI plug-in was included. Some important
modifications were made in the slackget10 library bundle. A shell script
that automatically installs the 25 required Perl modules waS Included. The
daemon now scans more than one directory for the configuration file (just
like the GUI) and now automatically creates all caches at launch time.

  Tue, Oct 11th 2005 00:43

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution Tools
System :: Systems Administration

About: Slackselect is a package manager for Slackware that can install,
remove, and upgrade packages. It can install/upgrade packages from
FTP/HTTP and CD sets. It scans your installed packages, and can show you
the packages that can be upgraded (and do it for you). It also finds
obsolete packages that aren't in the distribution anymore. It was inspired
by the functionality of dselect.

Changes: The "compare_version" algorithm was replaced with a new and
better "version_checker", fixing issues with broken version comparisons.
Some variables in diff were quoted so that spaces in filenames are handled
correctly. The length of FTP server names was extended and FTP input
handling was corrected to only save values if there are any. The radio
list was changed to a check list in "Remove source list". Path names for
downloading package lists were corrected.

About: trackGoogleContentAds.cgi is a tool to see where your Google
AdWords contextual ads are being displayed. Now that Google will let you

Google contextual advertising.

Changes: This release adds a separate domain column to output. This allows
simple cut-and-paste of a domain into the Google AdWords site exclusion
