Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It can produce static calendars
without any links or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker
control, event days and content with event URLs, and linkable days
(optionally URL or Javascript). The layout can be configured using CSS,
and JavaScript is not required. The supported dates (on systems using a
32-bit signed integer Unix time_t) are: 1902-2037 (Unix) and 1971-2037
(Windows), when using the default PHP native date functions, and 100-3000
and later, when using the ADOdb Date Library.

Changes: The private method mkUrl() has been modified. The generated link
structure will not be affected by non-boolean values that evaluate to
FALSE, such as 0 or "".

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security

About: Antispyd is an HTTP/HTTPS threat filtering proxy server. The main
characteristic of this project is the modularity of his conception. The
program is organized around an HTTP/HTTPS gateway service and a set of
filters that can be enabled or disabled, and are all configurable with a
single configuration file. Current filters are: URL filtering, content
filtering, content-type filtering, cookie removal, pop-up removal, shell
code attack blocking, Web traffic anonymizing, and a signature-based
filtering engine. All filtering is done on the fly, without blocking
downloads in any case. It uses only POSIX primitives and is built with
autotools, and was created with security in mind.

Changes: Major improvement were done to the log system. It is now
centralized and offers more possibilities for customization.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Chalupa creates an almost-bare-bones utility for Web comic authors
to upload and manage their strips. Load on popular comics can be reduced
by utilising the built-in caching system, or strips can be served directly
from the database. Comics can be stored in categories, sorted by date or a
specified comic order, published, withdrawn, edited, and pretty much
anything else you would expect from a file handling system. Included is
functionality to build a proto-CMS Web site around the core comic
functionality, with additional user and news functionality pre-packaged.
Security is the main focus, with salted user passwords, a hotlinking
disabler (without modifying your Apache/IIS config) and comic access
levels.

Changes: Changes range from minor rendering fixes for IE and Firefox,
additional template functionaliy, tightened security, and rewrites of key
files to reduce obfuscation.

[020] - Divmod Epsilon 0.1.0
  by Jp Calderone (http://freshmeat.net/users/kuran/)
  Wed, Oct 12th 2005 03:18

Utilities

About: Epsilon is a small utility package. Its dependencies make it
inappropriate for inclusion in Twisted, but it performs functions that are
generic enough to be used in projects that don't want to share the large
footprint of Divmod's other projects. Currently, it includes a powerful
date/time formatting and import/export class for exchanging date and time
information between all Python's various ways to interpret objects as
times or time deltas. It also includes some tools for managing concurrent
asynchronous processes within Twisted.

Changes: Epsilon currently offers two major features. epsilon.extime
offers conversion to and from a variety of time formats: RFC 2822
formatted dates, POSIX timestamps, datetime objects, struct_time objects,
ISO8601 formatted timestamps, and a particular context-aware format known
as the "human readable format". epsilon.cooperator provides a scheduler
for asynchronous tasks, with full Deferred support, as well as the ability
to group and prioritize tasks.

Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: dnshistory provides a means for storing a history of DNS/name
changes over time from the IP Addresses gathered from within Web log
files. At its simplest, it will do massively parallel name lookups very
quickly. The lookups are not DNS only, and will use whatever naming
services your system is configured with. A second mode will take a Web log
file and replace the IP addresses with the previously stored names, sending
the resulting output to STDOUT.

[030] - GNU ddrescue 1.1 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Wed, Oct 12th 2005 23:06

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: This release aligns its I/O buffer to the sector size so that it
can be used to read from raw devices. A small tutorial was added to the
info file. Two missing headers were included.

operations, automatic indentation, word wrapping, filename completion, a
directory browser, duplicate removal from prompt histories, and delimiter
matching.

Changes: Non-regular files are now ignored at startup instead of giving an
error, so "moe *" now edits all the regular files in the current directory.
The buffer name is no longer set when saving if a file can't be created.

Text Processing

About: Ocrad is the GNU OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program,
implemented as a filter and based on a feature extraction method. It reads
a bitmap image in PBM or PGM formats and produces text in byte (8-bit) or
UTF-8 formats. It also includes a layout analyzer that is able to separate
the columns or blocks of text normally found on printed pages. Ocrad can be
used as a stand-alone console application, or as a backend to other
programs.

Changes: The program is now able to read PGM files. Recognition of numbers
was improved. The algorithm for space detection is now more
scale-independent (by using rational numbers instead of integers). The
algorithm for space detection in tables was improved. Overflow detection
is performed when loading or scaling an image file. Variable size arrays
in block.cc were replaced by vectors. Some fixes and small improvements

  Wed, Oct 12th 2005 07:32

Communications :: Email

About: OSSP lmtp2nntp is an LMTP service for use in conjunction with an
MTA (like Sendmail), providing a reliable, real-time mail to news
gateway. Input messages get their headers slightly reformatted to match
Usenet news article format, and the article is posted or feeded into a
remote NNTP service (like INN). Delivery must take place immediately or
the transaction fails. OSSP lmtp2nntp relies on the queuing capabilities
of the MTA in order to provide a fully reliable service. For this the
program returns proper delivery status notification which indicates
successful completed action, persistent transient failure, or permanent
failure.

sampling, filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap
(and promiscuous mode if required), NetFlow v1/v5/v7/v8/v9, and sFlow
v2/v4/v5 are supported.

Changes: IPv4/IPv6 multicast support has been introduced in the NetFlow
and the sFlow daemons. A new "sfacctd_renormalize" config key allows the
user to automatically renormalize the byte/packet counters value, dealing
with scenarios in which multiple interfaces have been configured at
different sampling rates. A new "sampling_rate" keyword is supported in
the Pre-Tagging layer: it allows the user to tag sFlow aggregates on a
sampling rate basis. setproctitle() calls have been introduced and are
actually supported on Linux and BSDs. Minor bugfixes were made.

[055] - Python milter 0.8.3
  by Stuart D. Gathman (http://freshmeat.net/users/stuartdgathman/)
  Wed, Oct 12th 2005 11:05

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: The milter module for Python provides a python interface to
Sendmail's libmilter that exploits all its features. Milters can run on
the same machine as sendmail, or another machine. The milter can even run
with a different operating system or processor than sendmail. Sendmail
talks to the milter via a local or internet socket, and keeps the milter
informed of events as it processes a mail connection. At any point, the
milter can cut the conversation short by telling sendmail to ACCEPT,
REJECT, or DISCARD the message. After receiving a complete message from
sendmail, the milter can again REJECT or DISCARD it, but it can also
ACCEPT it with changes to the headers or body.

Changes: This release will keep screened honeypot mail, but optionally
discard honeypot-only mail. An spf_accept_fail option has been added for
brain-dead SPF senders (treats fail like softfail). An option to set SPF
policy via sendmail access map has been added. An option to supply a
Sender header from MAIL FROM when missing has been added . SMTP AUTH
connections are considered internal. DSN is sent for SPF errors corrected
by extended processing. DSN is sent before SCREENED mail is quarantined. A
logging package is used to keep log lines atomic.

[057] - Rapid Application Development Library 2.3.0
  by Mark Teel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mteel/)

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries
System

About: radlib is a C language library developed to abstract details of
interprocess communications and common Linux/Unix system facilities so
that application developers can concentrate on application solutions. It
encourages developers to use a proven paradigm of event-driven,
asynchronous design. By abstracting interprocess messaging, events,
timers, and any I/O device that can be represented as a file descriptor,
radlib simplifies the implementation of multi-purpose processes, as well
as multi-process applications. In short, radlib is a sincere attempt to
provide real-time OS capability on a non-real-time OS.

Changes: UDP datagram socket support was added, including broadcast and
multicast. Documentation in the API reference for the UDP API was added.
The "raddebug" CLI utility was added to attach to a running radlib system
and dump buffer and semaphore usage information. radBuffersDebug output
was cleaned up for use by the raddebug process. radSystemInit was changed
so the system up time isn't reset every time a new process attaches to it.

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) is a tool
for developing and executing regular expressions using any of more than 20
search programs, editors, and programming languages. For each program in
each locale a palette showing the available regular expression constructs
is provided. The features of each program are determined by running a test
suite, which guarantees that they will be correct for the particular
program version and the user's locale. Executed expressions are recorded
in a history list, from which entries may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. This allows complex regular
expressions to be developed in pieces. It fully supports UTF-8 Unicode as
long as the underlying program does.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that triggered an error when the search
tools were popped up and a bug that prevented the character entry tools
from being used to enter characters into the font control panel example
boxes. It also contains a number of minor enhancements.

[059] - rsyslog 1.11.0 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Wed, Oct 12th 2005 10:58

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, fully
configurable output formats (including great timestamps), and the ability
to filter on any part of the syslog message. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus able to work with the same config
file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require changing the config
file, but in general, this should be fairly easy.

Changes: This release supports receiving messages via RFC 3195, with full
RAW and limited COOKED profiles (no relay operations). It is implemented
as an optional stand-alone RFC3195-to-local-domain-socket forwarder (named
rfc3195d). Other than the RFC 3195 support, there is a patch for using
multiple domain sockets in rsyslogd. Some other minor changes are also
included. There is no need to upgrade if you do not need the fix or RFC
3195 support.

Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: SchemaSpy is a Java-based tool that analyzes the metadata of a
schema in a database and generates a visual representation of it in a
browser-displayable format. It lets you click through the hierarchy of
database tables via child and parent table relationships. Browsing through
relationships can occur though HTML links and/or though the graphical
representation of the relationships. It's also designed to help resolve
the obtuse errors that a database sometimes gives related to failures due
to constraints.

Changes: PostgreSQL is now supported in addition to Oracle, MySQL, DB2, MS
SQL Server, and Sybase. Other database types can be easily added. A new
"Columns" page that lists all of the columns in your schema, including
column details, was added. The intent of this page is to make it easier to
find inconsistencies in your schema as well as to simplify metadata
searches. For instance, you can easily determine everywhere that you're
using a "timestamp".

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative
free and open source MMORPG. It uses 2D graphics and aims to create a
large and diverse interactive world. The game aims to be a unique place
for people to interact not only by fighting each other but to play life,
form a community within the community, or just simply chat. Although the
game is never-ending and a linear story cannot be applied, it should have
enough background to describe and predefine tribes, kingdoms, and the
environment overall. Fullfilled quests should lead to certain events
depending on them being solved. Quests should also encourage teamwork.

Changes: Along with some invisible changes there was a complete rewrite of
the network layer and a large refactoring of the sprite drawing code. Many
small visible changes were made, including remembering of window positions
and sizes, a notice about being overweight, display of the time of chat
messages, a proper error message when the server disconnects, improved
support for international characters, and the ability to take a

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Xplosion is a Web site engine whose purpose is to be as simple as
possible while providing Web developers with easy installation and
building of their own content, design, and application logic. It avoids
complexity to make it easier for a Web developer to modify it. It also
avoids mixing the API code with HTML to encourage clean design. This "Yet
Another Engine" tries to innovate by using technologies that are not yet
mainstream in Web development, like the PEAR Flexy Template engine.

Changes: This release adds user preferences support, enhanced
initialization of translation strings, the ability for the administrator
to edit all translations, API improvements, code cleanup, and bugfixes.
Users have the ability to change blocks' positions and place them wherever
they want.
