interface uses a powerful "browser" metaphor that allows you to create
playlists that make the most of your music collection.
Changes: This release brings an important bugfix for users of
HyperThreading enabled processors. The stability issues with these
processors have now been fixed. There are important bugfixes for the
collection scanner, the script manager, and visualization support.

by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
Tue, Oct 25th 2005 23:34
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: And-httpd is an HTTP server that maps URLs to files. In other
words, in can take an incoming URL and map it to a file in a number of
ways (for example, according to content type or language). It cannot do
CGI or other kinds of code execution. It cannot even dynamically create
directory listings (although it comes with external tools to do so). It
currently has a $500 "security guarantee" against remote attacks.
Changes: Bugfixes were made. Native conf.d support was added. syslog date
generation was made native. W3C-like ",tools" were added. The redirection
for directory name index files was separated out into a conf.d file.

by glyph (http://freshmeat.net/users/glyph/)
Tue, Oct 25th 2005 23:06
Utilities
About: Epsilon is a small utility package. Its dependencies make it
inappropriate for inclusion in Twisted, but it performs functions that are
generic enough to be used in projects that don't want to share the large
footprint of Divmod's other projects. Currently, it includes a powerful
date/time formatting and import/export class for exchanging date and time
information between all Python's various ways to interpret objects as
times or time deltas. It also includes some tools for managing concurrent
asynchronous processes within Twisted.
Changes: This release added "short()" to epsilon.versions.Version and
fixed setup.py to use this method rather than a static string. It also
added the new module epsilon.modal, containing ModalType, a metaclass for
writing classes that behave in some respects like state machines.

[024] - gui4j 1.2.2
by Kay Krüger-Barvels (http://freshmeat.net/users/kay17/)
Tue, Oct 25th 2005 11:18
About: gui4j is a framework for describing Java Swing GUIs completely in
XML. The GUI is created dynamically based on the XML definitions. Each GUI
window is associated with exactly one top-level XML file. Each XML file can
dynamically include other XML files to support complex GUI definitions.
Each XML file is associated with a Java object that acts as both a
Controller and a Model for the GUI. There is a strong layer separation
between the GUI and the Controller: GUI definitions in the XML files can
access all Java methods of the Controller, but Java methods cannot access
any GUI elements directly. Events are used to trigger changes in the GUI.
It requires Java 1.4.0 or higher.
Changes: The most notable new feature is the ability to read XML
definitions from sources other than files. See the new class
Gui4jResourceProvider. A bug introduced in release 1.2.1 where the current
thread did not block when displaying a dialog with Gui4jDialog.show() has
been fixed. A bug where the actionCommand of an edit component was not
executed when the user pressed enter has been fixed.

Changes: An ignore_hosts configuration was added to remove specific IP
addresses from the accounting. A bug that caused traffic to be accounted
multiple times was fixed by restructuring the whole packet counting
process. This restructuring also makes conflicts with other programs using
iptables less likely to occur.

[065] - WebPython 0.6.2
by Collin (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpl/)
Tue, Oct 25th 2005 23:44
Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: WebPython is a Web-application development toolkit written in the
Python programming language. It contains an object relational database
layer, portable over MySQL and PostgreSQL; a document templating engine
complete with simple built-in automation; and a mechanism to store Python
objects in an SQL database, among other features.
Changes: With this release, the database layer has been significantly
modularized and overhauled; database-engine specific classes now inherit
from common base classes. New in this release is the VirtualTable object,
which gives developers an immutable, searchable, table-like object on the
application level. Eventually, all database access calls will return
VirtualTables, but not yet.

[066] - WidgetServer 0.7.9
by dvdw (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)
Tue, Oct 25th 2005 02:55
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A rich widget set is supported that includes tree views,
tabbed panes, split panels, and much more. A unified widget-based,
object-oriented programming interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to
the developer to control and assemble the GUI. Web applications are fully
AJAX enabled. For Swing client/server applications, the framework handles
client/server communication, including compression and security layers. A
GUI builder is included.
Changes: This release fixed issues with the slider, deployment template,
and keyEvent handling for inputField and errors in dialog handling while
restoring objects from pools. Event channels can now be removed properly
from Swing widgets. A new file upload widget was implemented and
session-specific handling of temporary files and folders was enhanced.

Tue, Oct 25th 2005 11:23
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
About: Worker is a file-manager for the X Window System with the classical
two panel interface. It features a fully graphical configuration, while
still allowing manual editing of the configuration file without the need
to restart Worker. Any external program can be integrated easily into the

recognition by file content or by filename extension (or both). Different
actions with completely configurable commands can be assigned to each
filetype.
Changes: The list view columns can be resized to a fixed width, and the
GUI was improved to support proportional fonts. A Spanish translation is

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Text Processing :: General
About: WP Clipart is an attempt to make a useful clipart package of public
domain images for use in word processors. It contains nearly 5,000 pieces
of non-transparent PNG clip art, which is exactly what AbiWord prints and
scales well. It has been optimized for use in all word processors (scaled
down, midtones expanded for inkjet print quality, etc.) It is suitable for
documents as well as Web graphics, but also has business application
(credit cards, promo graphics) and educational uses (pictures of all US
presidents, all country flags, all US states, sign language alphabet).
Changes: The viewer in Linux is now distributed with source code rather
than as a binary. There is also an Ubuntu binary for download separately,
as well as the standalone source code.

[071] - XArchive 0.2.4-1
by yargoflick (http://freshmeat.net/users/ligelowbee/)
Tue, Oct 25th 2005 22:43
System :: Archiving
About: XArchive is a GUI frontend for command-line archiving tools. It
uses external executable wrappers to communicate with the tools. It
consults a wrapper directory at startup to see what types of files it
supports, making adding support for new archive formats a matter of
writing a wrapper for its tool and dropping it in the wrappers directory.
Wrappers are included for TAR, RAR, ZIP, ARJ, 7ZIP, and ACE (extraction
only for ACE).
Changes: Extracting a whole archive now works much faster, since it
doesn't need to build a whole file list just send the archive name.
Selecting directories in an archive now immediately shows the contents as
selected as well. This makes selecting sub-directories for extraction or
removal much more intuitive. Some other nice user interface brush-ups and
minor code clean-ups were done.
