Thu, Nov 3rd 2005 03:33
Multimedia :: Graphics
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Argyll is an experimental ICC-compatible color management system.
It supports accurate ICC profile creation for scanners, CMYK printers,
film recorders, and displays, as well as calibration of displays. Spectral
sample data is supported, allowing a selection of illuminants observer
types and paper fluorescent whitener additive compensation. Profiles can
also incorporate source specific gamut mappings for perceptual and
saturation intents. Gamut mapping and profile linking uses the CIECAM02
appearance model, a unique gamut mapping algorithm. A fast 8-bit raster
color conversion engine is provided along with support for accurate 16-bit
conversion. Device color gamuts can be viewed and compared using a VRML
viewer.
Changes: A new "dispcal" utility for calibrating displays was included
along with "refine", a tool intended to support the improvement of
proofing color matches. Improvements were made to the speed and accuracy
of general profiling.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games
About: Biniax is an unique arcade logic game. Simple and addictive, you
can learn in a minute and play for hours. The gaming field is a 5x7 grid
filled partially with pairs of elements. Every pair consists of two
different elements combined of four possible. You control the box with an
element inside and can move around the field on empty spaces. You can also
remove pairs of elements if you have the same element as the one of the
pair. When you remove the pair, your element becomes the other one element
of the pair and the score is increased. The gaming field scrolls down
slowly and your goal is to stay on the field for as long as possible.
Changes: After months of playing, this release introduces the new time
balance. This is an important change in the gameplay.

System :: Systems Administration
About: NetXMS is a monitoring system with a modular architecture. It can
be used for monitoring an entire IT infrastructure, starting with
SNMP-capable hardware (like switches and routers) and ending with
applications on servers. The system has a three-tier architecture; the
information is collected by monitoring agents (either its own agents or
SNMP agents) and delivered to the monitoring server for processing and
storing, where it can be accessed by using the management console. It
features centralized configuration and centralized agent upgrades.
Changes: The release added a MIB compiler, the correct translation of
SNMPv1 trap IDs to SNMPv2 trap IDs, the ability to build statically linked
agents, an advanced DCI collecting schedule, a "Selecet DCI" function for
templates, and an improved database checker. The core agent and ping
subagent were ported to AIX, the signal handling routine was rewritten to
be pthread-safe, and auto-loading of the platform subagent was
implemented. The handling of large numbers of objects in NxCon was
improved. New MIBs were added for BGP4, PowerNet (APC), PRINTER,

Software Development :: Libraries
System
About: radlib is a C language library developed to abstract details of
interprocess communications and common Linux/Unix system facilities so
that application developers can concentrate on application solutions. It
encourages developers to use a proven paradigm of event-driven,
asynchronous design. By abstracting interprocess messaging, events,
timers, and any I/O device that can be represented as a file descriptor,
radlib simplifies the implementation of multi-purpose processes, as well
as multi-process applications. In short, radlib is a sincere attempt to
provide real-time OS capability on a non-real-time OS.
Changes: The typedefs for LIST and LIST_ID were changed to RADLIST and
RADLIST_ID respectively to avoid namespace collision with MySQL. Socket
debug capability and the functions "radSocketSetDebug" and
"radUDPSocketSetDebug" were added to enable or disable the logging of all
RX/TX data on the socket. radlib was changed to use libtool and generate
shared libraries as well as the static library when allowed on the build
platform. The header files were made C++ friendly. This allows radlib to
be linked into C++ applications.

About: Spam Trainer makes it easier for GNOME users to train spam
filtering software (e.g. SpamBayes or SpamAssassin) that "learns" how to
tell the difference between real email (ham) and unsolicited messages
(spam). Not all email clients have spam filtering (and training) built

provides easy (drag and drop) training from the Evolution mail client, and
should work just as well with any email client that supports the drag and
drop protocol implemented by the GTK+ toolkit.

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
About: WengoPhone is a multi-platform VOIP client sponsored and developed
by WENGO and MBDSYS. The GUI part is Qt-based, and the Video-over-IP
engine is based on the eXosip, oSIP, oRTP, and ffmpeg projects. The eXosip
module is extended by a phApi module, which implements a high-level,
easy-to-use call control API. WengoPhone supports PC-to-PC voice, video,
and chat. One can use a standard SIP service provider such as Wengo to be
assigned an incoming number, make calls to PSTN/cell phones, get voice
mail, and more.
Changes: This version features PC-to-PC voice calls and chat, a
contact-list with presence, and a call history. The program was
STUN-enabled to traverse firewalls. With a Wengo account, it supports
outgoing and incoming calls to and from PSTN and mobiles phones, voice
mail, and sending SMS text messages.

[069] - WifiScanner 1.0.1
by Poggi Jerome (http://freshmeat.net/users/poggij/)
Thu, Nov 3rd 2005 14:29
Security
System :: Monitoring
About: WifiScanner is an analyzer and detector of 802.11b stations and
access points. It can listen alternatively on all the 14 channels, write
packet information in real time, can search access points and associated
client stations, and can generate a graphic of the architecture using
GraphViz. All network traffic can be saved in the libpcap format for post
analysis. It works under Linux with all WiFi cards.
Changes: History is always printed, and PROBEREQ packets are not taken in
signal history. All warnings have been removed: the use of cast
expressions as lvalues is deprecated, and so it compiles with GCC 4.0.
There is a clean option in configure, and this release is more strict with
the use of the included wiretap library (which is used by default).

[070] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 1.0-RC1 (Python network client
plugin)
by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
Thu, Nov 3rd 2005 05:56
Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking
About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.
Changes: You can now use WiKID one-time passcodes to authenticate users of
your Python-based applications. This release includes a code sample called
pyexample.py which shows how simple it is to add users, validate users,
and add new tokens.
