[001] - aardmail 0.1
by Bernd 'Aard' Wachter (http://freshmeat.net/users/Aardvark/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 10:18
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
About: aardmail is a package with useful tools for different kinds of mail
handling. Current programs include a POP3 client (can be used to replace
fetchmail for getting mail from POP 3 servers), an SMTP client, a
minimalistic sendmail, and a minimalistic client for testing. All programs
support SSL for encryption, verification, and authentication. IPv6 works.
Changes: Fixes incorrect retrying to establish STLS connections in pop3c.
Borland C can now be used to compile aardmail. The default policy for
certificate verification to has been changed to paranoid'; peer
certificates can be verified using a locally stored certificate. Compile
issues on BSD have been fixed, and a Makefile for BSD has been added. An
absolutely minimalistic sendmail has been added An SMTP client has been
added; authentication is done using a client cert. An (ugly) plaintext
reconnect on TLS failure (if wanted by the user) has been added.

Office/Business
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Af-Arch is an N-tier development framework to quickly build
high-quality distributed applications. It currently supports C and C#
programming languages, which enables you to write client applications
using them. It currently runs on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows, and is
being used in production environments.
Changes: This release adds two new supported return types: AfDalStringData
and AfDalNodeData. They allow Af-Arch developers to get just a DataNode
reference or a string value as a result from a service invocation. Two new
reserved services have been added: reference and previous. They allow you
to get a DataNode from an Id value and list previous elements starting
from an initial cursor. There are many more improvements.

[004] - C++ Regex Engine 1.01
by unr_stuart (http://freshmeat.net/users/unr_stuart/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 14:45
Text Processing
About: C++ Regex Engine provides a robust regular expression library for
use in C++. The syntax of the regular expression language is very close to
the Perl 5 standard. The classes given somewhat mirror those found in
Java's regular expression library, but have several improvements. The
intended audience of this package is anyone who does a lot of data parsing
(e.g. sysadmins), people tired of trying to decipher Perl scripts, and
regular expression beginners who know C++. Some knowledge of the STL's
vector and string will come in handy, but isn't necessary.
Changes: Fixes a bug in Matcher::replaceWithGroups that resulted in the
first character after a backreference being skipped.

by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 22:54
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: The user interface was improved by adding more information to
some error and informational messages. An interactive query mode was added
for update, erase, clone, and branch operations. Automatic archive
unpacking now recognizes cpio archives. The Requires policy can now take a
synthetic RPATH for finding libraries.

by Michael Wallner (http://freshmeat.net/users/_mike_/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 08:18
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: HTTP extension for PHP allows building absolute URIs, RFC-compliant
HTTP redirects, RFC-compliant HTTP date handling, parsing of HTTP headers
and messages, caching by "Last-Modified" and/or ETag (with an 'on the fly'
option for ETag generation from buffered output), sending
data/files/streams with (multiple) ranges, negotiating user-preferred
language/charset, and convenient request functionality built upon libcurl.
PHP5 classes: HttpUtil, HttpResponse (PHP-5.1), HttpRequest,
HttpRequestPool, and HttpMessage.
Changes: This release adds experimental thread safety for builds linking
against libcurl-gnutls, improves the chunked decoder to be more tolerant
and fail-proof, changes the license to the revised BSD, changes
HttpMessage properties not to be accessible by reference or array index,
makes HttpRequest history logging disabled by default, and fixes shared
builds within the PHP source tree on Linux and parallel builds with
ext/zlib on Win32, a bug which caused HttpRequest warnings to be hidden,
object deallocation, http_support() pretending there's no SSL in
non-threadsafe builds, and the message parser choking on headers

[026] - Internet DJ Console 0.5.4
by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 14:53
About: Internet DJ console is a graphical shoutcast/icecast client that
runs under GTK+ and the JACK audio connection kit. In short, it's an
Internet radio app for making a live radio show or podcast. Features
include two main media players with a crossfader, a jingle player,
microphone signal processing (compressor and noise gate), IRC track
announcements with X-Chat, an automatic stream shut-off timer, MP3 or Ogg
streaming and recording at various bit rates, aux input for connecting
external JACK aware applications, and audio level meters.
Changes: This release includes an ID3 tagger for MP3 files accessible from
the playlist popup menu. It has had a technical overhaul in the way that
track endings are handled. The true end of the track is detected by the
GUI code, instead of the GUI code killing the music after a timer has
elapsed. The mixer always flushes properly. MP3 playlists load much more
quickly. This version no longer uses mp3info or id3v2, but requires eyeD3
instead.

by David F. Skoll (http://freshmeat.net/users/dskoll/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 08:02
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security
About: MIMEDefang is a flexible MIME email scanner designed to do all
kinds of email processing, including anti-virus scanning, anti-spam
scanning, replacing parts of messages with URLs, adding boilerplate
disclaimers, and so on. It can alter or delete various parts of a MIME
message according to a Perl-based policy filter. It can also bounce
messages with unacceptable attachments and modify SMTP response codes on
the fly. It works with the Sendmail 8.11 and newer "Milter" API, which
makes it more flexible and efficient than procmail-based approaches.
Changes: The build scripts now permit building against a shared-library
libmilter.so as well as a static libmilter.a. Both mimedefang and
mimedefang-multiplexor now take an option allowing you to specify the
spool directory at runtime. Experimental support for Kaspersky's
"kavscanner" virus scanner has been added.

[042] - NeatUpload 1.0.12
by Dean Brettle (http://freshmeat.net/users/brettle/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 22:55
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries
About: NeatUpload allows ASP.NET developers to stream uploaded files to
disk and allows users to monitor upload progress. It works under Mono's
XSP/mod_mono as well as Microsoft's ASP.NET implementation and features
two custom controls. InputFile allows the user to select a file to upload
and ProgressBar displays the upload progress either inline or in a popup.
ProgressBar even allows users without JavaScript to see upload progress.
Changes: This release provided a workaround for a minor bug where both
NET and Mono fail to enforce the <httpRuntime> element's maxRequestLength
attribute when NeatUpload's UploadHttpModule is being used. This is done by
adding a line such as <add key="NeatUpload.MaxRequestLength"
value="sizeInKBytes" /> to Web.config under configuration/appSettings. The
manual was updated with information on this problem.

[070] - TestGen4J 0.1.4-alpha
by Manish (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmarathe/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 04:04
About: TestGen4J automatically generates JUnit test cases from your own
Java class files or source files. Its primary focus is to exercise
boundary value testing of the arguments passed to the method. It uses
rules, written in a user-configurable XML file, that define boundary
conditions for the data types. The test code is separated from test data
with the help of JTestCase. The test code is generated in a hierarchical
manner.
Changes: This release fixes a problem in which tests are not generated for
a method whose return type is an object of an inner-class of some other
main class if this inner-class is private or if it not private but the
main class does not have a public constructor. SpikeTestGen.java was
changed to look for methods returning an object which are inner-classes.

Fri, Nov 4th 2005 08:06
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Tntnet is a Web application server for generating Web applications
in C++. HTML pages with some additional tags for inclusion of C++ code are
compiled into shared libraries and served from tntnet. It resembles PHP,
JSP, or Mason, but the programming language used is C++, and the pages are
compiled into native code before serving. Tntnet is fully multithreaded and
supports http-keep-alive for best performance. Dynamic pages are served
about as fast as static pages in other Web servers, while creating Web
applications keeps simple.
Changes: If a thread takes too long for processing (default: 10 minutes),
the thread is considered hanging, and tntnet is now restarted
automatically.

[076] - Unicode Description Utilities 2.15.1
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Fri, Nov 4th 2005 04:08
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities
About: The Unicode Description Utilities is a set of four programs for
finding out what is in a Unicode file. uniname defaults to printing the
character offset of each character, its byte offset, its hex code value,
its encoding, the glyph itself, and its name. Command line options allow
undesired information to be suppressed and the Unicode range to be added.
unidesc reports the character ranges to which different portions of the
text belong. unihist generates a histogram of the characters in its input.
ExplicateUTF8 is intended for debugging or for learning about Unicode. It
determines and explains the validity of a sequence of bytes as a UTF-8
encoding.
Changes: The necessary ifdefs were added to unihist.c to allow compilation
on systems lacking certain header files and libraries. If unihist compiles
on your system, you can ignore this patch.
