Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts.
The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module
autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to
analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and
timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured
kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free
applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the
ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins,
PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration
program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.

Changes: Many bugs were fixed.

  by Stijn van Dongen (http://freshmeat.net/users/micans/)
  Thu, Nov 10th 2005 06:26

System :: Shells

About: Apparix combines the properties of the cdargs utility and the
CDPATH shell mechanism for fast navigation through the file system. It is
especially useful for visiting and documenting both frequently and rarely
used locations. Apparix enables you to attach marks to locations and jump
to those locations by loading the mark. Marking, unmarking and jumping are
simple operations that are performed in the current shell. By setting up
convenient aliases for marking and jumping, the file system can be
navigated in a fast and intuitive manner.

Changes: The newly integrated bash completion code allows completion on
both bookmarks and target subdirectories. The jump and bookmark functions
were streamlined and a bug was removed. Jumping no longer uses an
intermediate result file. Duplicate bookmark resolution was improved and
can now be customized. Files can be easily be copied or moved to
bookmarked directories.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: The client part of Brutus has seen some great progress. Several
ORBit2 bugs has been fixed, which allowed evolution-brutus to progress.
Basic browsing of Exchange folders is available. Lots and lots of internal
implementation was done in evolution-brutus. Error logging by Brutus Server
was improved. A basically configuration free installation of Brutus Server
is now possible.

  Thu, Nov 10th 2005 06:39

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.

Changes: A bug in Python which meant that POP3-over-SSL with Python >= 2.4
could "hang" was worked around. This is exactly the same bug that affected
getmail's initial IMAP-over-SSL code.

Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Monetra (formerly known as MCVE) is a scalable credit card
processing engine for Linux and UNIX. It is designed to handle credit card
authorizations and is certified to support major clearing house protocols.
Features include support for multiple modems, multiple merchant accounts,

[023] - Neko 1.1
  by Nicolas Cannasse (http://freshmeat.net/users/ncannasse/)
  Thu, Nov 10th 2005 08:04

Software Development :: Assemblers
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Neko is an intermediate programming language. It has been designed
to provide a common runtime for several different languages. Learning and
using Neko is very easy, but you're not supposed to directly program in
Neko. Instead, you can write a generator from your preferred language to
Neko and then use the Neko runtime to compile, run, and access libraries.
Neko is a good way for language designers to focus on design and reuse a
fast and well-designed runtime, as well as existing libraries for
accessing filesystem, network, databases, XML, etc. It has a compiler and
a virtual machine. The virtual machine is very lightweight and well
optimized. The VM can be easily embedded into any application, and your
libraries can be accessed using the C foreign function interface.

Changes: The compiler has been bootstrapped by using the NekoML compiler.
This means that both Neko and the NekoML compiler are now bytecode Neko
libraries that you can use at runtime. Debug information was added for
exception and call stack traces. An interactive console mode was added. A
documentation generator for C APIs was added. $goto and switches were
added in the Neko specification. The standard libraries were rewritten and
completed. They are now stable and provide access to the whole system. The
code now works on big-endian and 64-bit architectures. VM speed was
improved.

[032] - SINGULAR 3-0-1
  by Michael Brickenstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/bricken/)
  Thu, Nov 10th 2005 13:25

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: SINGULAR is a computer algebra system for polynomial computations
in commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and singularity theory. Its
main computational objects are ideals and modules over a large variety of
baserings. The baserings are polynomial rings over a field (eg. finite
fields, the rationals, floats, algebraic extensions, transcendental
extensions), or localizations thereof, or quotient rings with respect to
an ideal. It features fast and general implementations for computing
Groebner and standard bases, including Buchberger's algorithm and Mora's
Tangent Cone algorithm. Its interactive shell and C-like programming
language can be extended by libraries written in the SINGULAR programming
language.

Changes: This is mainly a bugfix release, but it also contains some new
features. NTL has been upgraded to version 5.4. There is a new absfact.lib
library, a new absPrimdecGTZ procedure in primdec.lib, a new weightKB
procedure in standard.lib, an improved build process (new make target
install_all), an improved version of slimgb, and incorporation into
groebner. The arithmetic in Z/pZ for the X84_64 architecture has been
improved by 25 %.

[040] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 1.0.1 (SugarCRM Network Plugin)
  by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
  Thu, Nov 10th 2005 06:24

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.

Changes: Minor bugfixes and code clean up were done.

[041] - xrmap 2.33 (Stable)
  by Jean-Pierre Demailly (http://freshmeat.net/users/demailly/)
  Thu, Nov 10th 2005 13:38

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Xrmap is a program running under X that can interactively display
portions of the Earth, using the huge CIA world vector map. It is based on
an earlier console utility 'rmap'. It features political boundaries, major
and minor rivers, glaciers, lakes, canals, etc. The map remains accurate
under a very large zoom factor, which can possibly exceed 100. Spherical,
rectangular, Mercator and Miller projections are implemented, and all
features can be interactively set from the GUI.

Changes: Xrmap now directly reads the vector formats EPS and SVG or the
bitmap formats PNG, GIF, and JPEG. The GUI has been partially reworked and
should be easier to navigate. The collection of SVG flags is quite complete
(about 50 more entries than in the openclipart collection, including high
quality vector format flags of US states).
