[001] - ArchLog 0.9
  by Franck Pommereau (http://freshmeat.net/users/fpatalterndotorg/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 11:42

Software Development :: Version Control

About: ArchLog is a log-oriented GUI for the Arch revision control system.
It allows you to take notes as you hack, structuring the changes by
categories. At commit time, ArchLog will generate a consistently and
nicely-formatted log file. It features assigning new versions to a project
tree, adding/removing/renaming files for a project, packing a project into
archives (tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar, and zip), a todo manager with categorized
tasks, global or per-project preferences, TODO and NEWS files generation,
and full customization from the GUI.

Changes: This version can be installed automatically.

  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 11:58

Information Management
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Calcurse is a text-based personal organizer which helps keep track
of events and everyday tasks. It has a calendar and a "todo" list, and
puts your appointments in order. The user interface is configurable, and
you can choose between different color schemes and layouts. All of the
commands are documented within an online help system.

Changes: In this new version, the ncurses library that is used was
improved. Screen refreshing is faster, windows do not flicker anymore when
they are updated, and the memory footprint is much smaller. Moreover, the
configure script was improved, and an option was added to skip system
dialogs.

[004] - cpufreq daemon 2.0.0
  by mattia (http://freshmeat.net/users/mattia/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 11:55

Utilities

About: cpufreqd is meant to be a replacement of the speedstep applet you
can find in Windows. It monitors battery level, CPU usage, AC state, and
running programs and adjusts the frequency governor according to a set of
rules specified in the config file.

Changes: This is the final release of the first cpufreqd 2 series. It
fixes an incorrect printf format which caused it to SIGSEGV on 64-bit
platforms. cpufreqd is now a little more conservative when choosing a rule
by keeping an already applied rule in case of a tie.

  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 23:35

Software Development

About: The Custom Eclipse Builder is a lightweight Ant-based project that
is intended to build a company/personal customized Eclipse version,
including company/personal relevant plugins, preferences, and settings.
After you have installed and configured Builder, you can build your own
Eclipse distribution each time you wish (e.g. by scheduling a cron job) in
just a few minutes. It will download all desired Eclipse and plugins
distributions automatically. There is no need to check a new plugin's
version. Once installed and configured, you can use Builder over a couple
of months without any modifications.

Changes: This release fixes some minor bugs and supports building
distributions based on Eclipse 3.2M1, 3.2M2, and 3.2M3.

[006] - Dnsmasq 2.24
  by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 23:37

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.

Changes: The main change in this release is the addition of
internationalization code and translations for German, Spanish, French,
Indonesian, Polish, and Romainian. There are also a couple of bug fixes
for unusual DHCP configurations, and better handling of errors returned to
dnsmasq from upstream nameservers.

[012] - GWintree 0.9.5-1
  by David J. Cooke (http://freshmeat.net/users/djcooke/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 23:14

About: GWintree is a genealogy chart program for Linux, which produces 2
styles of compact full charts from GEDCOM data, showing all blood
relatives. Options are available to show ancestors only or descendants
only. Charts can be printed across multiple pages or saved as image files,
and can display over 1000 families, showing all links, optionally
colour-coded, and formatted so families are not split by page breaks. It
also produces birth brief (pedigree) charts and selective ancestor charts,
and incorporates a simple data entry interface to create/edit/view GEDCOM
files.

Changes: The data view/edit interface has been extended to support most of
the GEDCOM 5.5 specification. Options for the boxchart family tree have
been extended to allow a wide choice of box and text styles. Support for
including pictures in family trees has been added.

[014] - HTMLTemplate 1.4.0
  by hhas01 (http://freshmeat.net/users/hhas01/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 11:38

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: HTMLTemplate converts (X)HTML templates into simple object models
controlled by callback functions defined in your Python code. Conceptually
similar to DOM (but much simpler), it provides complete separation between
HTML markup and presentation logic. It boasts an excellent power-to-weight
ratio thanks to its lightweight DOM-inspired design: the implementation and
API are extremely simple and compact, yet powerful, flexible, and easy to
modify and/or use.

Changes: Tag attributes' values are now escaped as HTML entities. An
optional "warnings" parameter was added to the Template constructor.
HTMLParser is now prevented from decoding some HTML entities in attribute
values when parsing template markup.

[015] - HTTP extension for PHP 0.19.0
  by Michael Wallner (http://freshmeat.net/users/_mike_/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 23:38

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The HTTP extension for PHP aims to provide a convenient and
powerful set of functionality for one of PHP's major applications. It
eases handling of HTTP URLs, dates, redirects, headers, and messages,
provides means for negotiation of clients' preferred language and charset,
as well as a convenient way to send any arbitrary data with caching and
resuming capabilities. It provides powerful request functionality if built
with CURL support. Parallel requests are available for PHP 5 and greater.

Changes: http_negotiate_content_type() was added. A bug in
http_negotiate_*() which was triggered when a client sent spaces within
accept headers was fixed. Support for etag hashing through libmhash was
removed. The HTTP_ETAG_* and HttpResponse::ETAG_* constants were removed.
The http.etag_mode INI setting was changed to accept a string specifying
the hash algorithm to use for generating etags. CRC32, MD5, and SHA1 are
available out of the box, with MD5 being the default. If pecl/hash is
available, any algorithm this extension provides can be used.

[016] - Ikaros Simulation Framework 0.8.1
  by Janne (http://freshmeat.net/users/JanneM2/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 03:17

Education
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence

About: Ikaros is a framework for writing and running component-based
simulators. It is used for simulations of brain areas and learning models,
but is general enough to be easily used for any discrete-time simulations.
A simulation consists of modules written in C or C++ that are connected in
the simulator, with connections specified in an XML file. It runs on the
console, and can optionally generate a dynamic browser-based UI with SVG
for graphics generation. There are also socket-based hooks for adding a
full GUI. The package contains a number of modules and complete
documentation for working with the framework.

Changes: This version features a completely cross-platform graphical
frontend, implemented as a dynamically generated SVG-rendered Web page. It
works with Safari and Firefox 1.5 (as well as earlier versions, if compiled
with support for SVG). A few new modules were included along with a number
of bugfixes. The build systems were improved slightly to detect Linux and
Mac OS X, so there is now one downloadable tarball for both platforms.

[020] - MultiTail 3.7.4 (Development)
  by Folkert van Heusden (http://freshmeat.net/users/fvh/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 11:46

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: The screen can now also be split-up in more than two columns. For
each column, the width can be set and the number of windows in it can be
set. The regular expression window now also displays how often a regexp is
matched. Commandline parameters are now better checked for validity. When
using the strip-option (which removes pairs of lines of the logfiles
monitored), multiple matches can now be removed. A couple of small memory
leaks and some segfaults when using -E and clearing the scrollback buffer
were fixed.

Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
System :: Systems Administration

About: The Openwall Linux kernel patch is a collection of security
"hardening" features for the Linux kernel. In addition to the new
features, some versions of the patch contain various security fixes. The
"hardening" features of the patch, while not a complete method of
protection, provide an extra layer of security against the easier ways to
exploit certain classes of vulnerabilities and/or reduce the impact of
those vulnerabilities. The patch can also add a little bit more privacy to
the system by restricting access to parts of /proc so that users may not
see what others are doing.

[030] - Sdictionary 1.7.3 (Symbian)
  by Alexey Semenov (http://freshmeat.net/users/swajj/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 03:16

About: PTkSdict is a dictionary using Sdict dictionary format. Unlike
ptkdic or gtkdic, MySQL isn't needed; you can work with dictionary files
directly. It uses Unicode, meaning that words and articles all are in
UTF-8. There are two index levels, compression, and tools to convert from
text files to .dct and vice versa.

Changes: GUI cosmetic changes were made and the maximum article size was
increased to 256K (which is up to 128K for Cyrillic texts). The maximum
word size is now 2K. Dynamic memory reallocation was implemented for big
articles. Search in current article was added. A number of bugs were
fixed.

[031] - SMS Framework A2
  by tjellisuk (http://freshmeat.net/users/tjellisuk/)
  Sat, Nov 26th 2005 06:45

Communications
Desktop Environment :: GNUstep
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: SMS Framework is an Objective C framework for decoding SMS messages
in PDU format to objects. It is easily usable in Cocoa and GNUstep
environments, and it reduces developer responsibility for decoding
messages to extracting the raw messages from the phone. The XCode project
file contains three targets: one system wide framework, one framework to
include in applications, and a small application for testing the
framework.

Changes: This release applies a proper version numbering convention, adds
a GNUstep makefile, and fixes all the memory leaks, a bug that broke
reading the headers properly in multipart messages, and a bug that broke
extracting the header from messages in the default alphabet.
