[001] - AcpiTool 0.4.0
by DLeemans (http://freshmeat.net/users/dleemans/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 17:06
System
System :: Systems Administration
About: AcpiTool is a Linux ACPI client. It's a small command line
application, intended to be a replacement for the apm tool. The primary
target audience are laptop users, since these people are most interested
in things like battery status, thermal status and the ability to suspend
(sleep mode). The program simply accesses the /proc/acpi or /sysfs entries
to get or set ACPI values. A computer running a Linux kernel from the 2.4.x
or 2.6.x series with ACPI enabled is needed. It also supports various
extensions for Toshiba, Asus, and IBM Thinkpad laptops.
Changes: This release has initial support for IBM Thinkpad ACPI
extensions.

[015] - cpop 0.7 (Development)
by Draxil (http://freshmeat.net/users/draxil/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 23:00
About: cpop is a network popup message system that uses the jpop protocol

Changes: The timezone is now stored in a string, and it's at the end where
it makes sense to be. A minor memory leak was fixed. An alert server was
added at user request. This server displays unobtrusive messages for a few
seconds in the corner of your screen. Multiple messages queue up. This
server is good for people who have a heavy message density, but whose
messages aren't vital. Some weird cpsend regressions were fixed. The code

[017] - dvbcut 0.5.1
by Sven Over (http://freshmeat.net/users/svenor/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 17:07
Multimedia :: Video
About: dvbcut is a Qt application that allows you to select certain parts
of an MPEG transport stream (as received via Digital Video Broadcasting)
and save these parts into a single MPEG output file. It follows a "keyhole
surgery" approach where the input video and audio data are mostly kept
unchanged, and only very few frames at the beginning and/or end of the
selected range are re-encoded in order to obtain a valid MPEG file.
Changes: Incorporates the sources of the FFMPEG libraries (libavcodec,
libavformat, libavutil) into the DVBCUT source directory. This will ease
the installation procedure significantly for those who do not have these
libraries installed or have installed an incompatible version. Introduces
SCons as a build utility. A Makefile is also provided, which calls SCons.
Some small fixes and usability improvements.

available for purchase with additional levels and features for those who
want a little something more. It includes an integrated online chat

learns new chat commands from the server (try issuing "/time"), meaning
that new commands can be added without having to update.
"/media/cdrecorder" now shows up as a valid CD drive under Linux.

[036] - Java for C++ 0.1
by Stefan Palme (http://freshmeat.net/users/kleiner/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 23:39
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Java for C++ is a tool to generate C++ wrapper classes for existing
Java classes. This tool reads a list of Java class names and creates source
code for C++ classes to wrap them. The implementation of the wrapper
classes uses JNI (Java Native Interface) to call the "real" Java classes.
The C++ API to use these wrapper classes is very close to the API of the
original Java classes. So developers of C++ software can use Java classes
as if they have been implemented in C++.
Changes: This version already generates fully working C++ classes and has
been tested by using HBCI4Java from C++ applications. There are still some
problems with binary string data and with multi-dimensional arrays.

[043] - LoFiMo 1.0.6
by anzac (http://freshmeat.net/users/anzac/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 13:29
Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
System :: Diagnostics
About: The main purpose of LoFiMo is, as the name states, to monitor log
files. It does this in real time, i.e. shows the contents of log files as
they are changing. The user can connect to LoFiMo with a Web browser or
use the console for plain text output. When using a Web browser, the
output can be formatted with cascading stylesheets, which the user can
define. Thus, it is possible to highlight certain log entries with
different colors and fonts. It is also possible to play sounds or execute
commands (send an email, play sound with a custom player, etc.) when a log
entry matches a filter. LoFiMo can parse Apache style log files and syslog
style log files. Among others, there are filters that can parse iptables
logs and merge multiple log lines of Postfix into a single one.
Changes: This release has been rewritten from scratch. Instead of the Java
GUI used in previous versions, there is a Web interface. There are also a
couple of new filters and file readers, and this release can use regular
expressions.

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: The MasterShaper is a Web application to control and manage network
bandwidth and QoS (Quality of Service) easily with a Web browser. It uses
iproute2 and the features of newer 2.4 and 2.6 Linux kernels (such as HTB,
HFSC, CBQ, and SFQ) to manage inbound and outbound network traffic.
MasterShaper also displays graphs about the current bandwidth distribution
(created with jpgraph). The filtering mechanisms it supports are tc-filter
and various iptables modules, such as TCP-Flags, TOS, l7-filter, and
ipp2p.
Changes: This release contains a completely new design. Fixed are problems
with HFSC and CBQ queuing disciplines and PHP errors. MasterShaper now
differs between router and bridge mode. An authentication mechanism has
been implemented to make permission levels possible. It's now possible to
match on FTP data channels. Several little bugs like the problems of
tc_collector.pl are fixed.

by Patrick (http://freshmeat.net/users/pbrosset/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 23:02
About: MyDBO is a powerful object-oriented code generator for PHP/MySQL
Web application developers. It is designed to remove the hassle of
implementing familiar database operations (select, update, insert, etc)
over and over again when creating Web applications. It creates code for
accessing your database tables without you having to worry about
connections or SQL queries. It also allows you to approach your database
in an object-oriented fashion, thus giving you real flexibility. It uses
templates to generate code, so it is also possible to create your own
templates.
Changes: The ability for plug-ins to generate into sub-directories was
added. The directory clean-up function was changed to remove files and
directories from the destination directory. The DBC plug-in was updated so
that it generates into a more comprehensive directory structure. The
resetIndex() method was added in the dbo_collector class so that next()
and prev() can be re-used from the start of the collection. The
instantAdmin plug-in was created. A fully functional admin section was

Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Nautilus Actions is an extension for Nautilus, the GNOME file
manager, which allows you to configure programs to be launched on files
selected in the Nautilus interface. Each time you right-click on one or
several selected files in Nautilus, Nautilus Actions will parse its
configuration files to see if a program has been set for this selection.
If one has been set, it will add an item to the menu that allows you to
execute the program on the selected files.
Changes: The actions now appear in the background of Nautilus windows. An
icon for the menu entry in Nautilus can be defined for each action. GConf
is used for the configuration instead of the previous custom XML file
format. An import/export feature has been added into Nact to allow users
to get back their old configurations and to more easily share the new
ones. The layout of Nact has been improved to be more usable. Two command

[057] - otl 0.35
by david a thompson (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomp/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 00:18
Text Processing :: General
About: otl converts a text file written in a user-specified syntax to a
second text file with user-specified markup. The default conversion is
from a simple, readable text file syntax designed for writing an outline
to XHTML. However, otl can be used for many types of conversion, since the
syntax of the source file and of the output can both be customized by the
user. otl is more than a search/replace frontend; it can process complex
structures such as ordered and unordered lists (nested or unnested), add
custom "headers" and "footers" to documents, etc. The package also
includes tag-remove, a script for stripping XML tags from documents.
Changes: A significant new feature is the ability to exclude entire
sections of the source file from processing (allowing straightforward
inclusion of more complex markup in the source file). In addition, a
number of minor bugs are fixed. The other component of the package,
tag-remove, now operates in "smart" mode by default, preserving link
information and prettifying paragraphs. In addition, a number of bugs in
tag-remove were fixed.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Database :: Front-Ends
About: phpPgAdmin is a fully functional PHP-based administration package
for PostgreSQL. It has all the basic functionality you need to completely
administer a PosgreSQL server and/or database, including the ability to
administer views, sequences, stored procedures, and triggers. Features
include the ability to create and drop databases; create, copy, drop, and
alter tables/views/sequences/functions/triggers; edit and add fields (to
the extent Postgres allows); execute any SQL-statement, even
batch-queries; manage keys on fields; create and read dumps of database
and tables; and administer one single database, multiple servers, and
Postgres users/groups.
Changes: Fixes major bug in non-English translations where HTML Unicode
entities caused failure in the object browser tree. Fixes an issue with
includes where '.' is not in the include_path. Other more minor fixes.

[064] - Port Scan Attack Detector 1.4.4
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 13:17
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux Netfilter
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.
Changes: This release adds MAC address reporting in psad email alerts. It
adds a --fw-rm-block-ip option to allow IP addresses to be removed from
the auto-blocking chains from the command line. It updates command line
firewall arguments to write commands to the AUTO_IPT_SOCK domain socket.
It adds the ability to specify ports and port ranges to auto_dl file.
There is a bugfix in the installer to seek() to the end of the fwdata file
instead of reading the entire thing into memory. There is a bugfix for psad
repeatedly trying to remove the same IP address(es) from the auto-blocking
chains.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Text Processing
About: Redet is a tool for developing and executing regular expressions
using any of more than 30 search programs, editors, and programming
languages, intended both for developing regular expressions for use
elsewhere and as a search tool in its own right. For each program in each
locale, a palette showing the available constructs is provided. The
properties of each program are determined by runtime tests, which
guarantees that they will be correct for the program version and locale.
Additional features include persistent history, extensive help, a variety
of character entry tools, and the ability to change locale while running.
Redet is highly configurable and fully supports Unicode.
Changes: This release fixes bugs in the history system and result cache,
apparently due to recent file corruption. It also adds the ability to set
jgrep case-sensitivity from the init file, and adds a command to the Help
menu that saves the palette to a file.

[090] - WordGenerator 1.1
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Sun, Nov 27th 2005 17:13
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: WordGenerator generates hypothetical words from specifications of
their syllable structure. The user specifies the maximum length of the
words in syllables, the abstract structure of syllables in the language
(in terms of such units as consonants and vowels or onsets and rhymes),
and the actual sounds that comprise each abstract class (e.g. the list of
vowels in the language); WordGenerator then generates the words that
conform to this specification. Such lists are useful to field linguists
exploring the vocabulary of a language, and to designers of artificial
languages.
