[007] - CanIt 3.2.0 (Pro)
  by David F. Skoll (http://freshmeat.net/users/dskoll/)
  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 11:15

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: CanIt is a server-based spam-control system built around
SpamAssassin, MIMEDefang, Apache, and PostgreSQL. It features
sophisticated spam-handling techniques which minimize the amount of spam
you receive while guaranteeing that you'll never lose a valid email. CanIt
achieves extraordinarily accurate discrimination through human
intervention, and includes mechanisms to minimize the amount of human
intervention required.

Changes: This release can strip specified attachments from messages and
either discard them or store them on the server for retrieval via the Web
interface. It can also delay mail with specified attachments to allow
virus scanner signatures to catch up (scanning is still performed after
the delay.) By default, it rejects mail from domains with bogus MX
addresses. Most Web pages that list various tables have a "filter" box to
make searching for specific entries much faster. There are many other
minor improvements, bugfixes, and performance improvements.

[013] - ComputeMode 1.4
  by Pierre Lombard (http://freshmeat.net/users/plicatis/)
  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 03:31

Office/Business :: Scheduling
Scientific/Engineering
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: ComputeMode makes it possible to easily set up an HPC grid within
an organization by aggregating unused computing resources. For instance, a
virtual cluster may be built using employees' PCs while they are away at
night, on weekends, during business trips, or whenever you have peak needs
for computations. Since everything is done in a diskless mode, installation
is quite fast and non-obtrusive.

[015] - cryptmount 0.2
  by rwpenney (http://freshmeat.net/users/rwpenney/)
  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 11:13

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems

About: cryptmount allows any user to access encrypted filing systems on
demand under GNU/Linux systems running a 2.6-series kernel. After initial
configuration by the superuser, an ordinary user can mount or unmount
filesystems managed by cryptmount solely by providing the decryption
password, with any system devices needed to access the filing system being
configured automatically. A wide variety of encryption schemes (provided by
the kernel and OpenSSL library) can be used to protect both the filing
system and the access key. The protected filing systems can reside in
either ordinary files or disk partitions.

Changes: Parameters for using a subset of sectors on the raw device were
added. A parameter for selecting a specific or automatically chosen
loopback device was added. Automatic security checks on the configuration
file were added. Error detection in the configuration file was improved.

[016] - Daikon 4.2.2
  by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 09:18

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: Enhancements have been made to the Chicory and Kvasir frontends.
Chicory now allows a regular expression to choose variables to be omitted
by name and has some new and modified commandline options. Kvasir has some
new commandline options to better control its comparability analysis.

  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 23:01

Software Development :: Documentation
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Refactoring

About: DEPS (formerly known as graph-includes) is a set of tools and
libraries which allows users to extract dependency information from
arbitrary material (e.g. program source files), apply various
transformations to this graph, and draw it. It is typically used as helper
tool for a refactoring effort, to create a graph of dependencies between
groups of source files. Readability and usability of the dependency graphs
are currently improved by customizable grouping of several source files
into a single node, coloring of nodes belonging to given groups, and
transitive reduction of the graph.

Changes: Graphs of grouped nodes now only include the defined groups. The
new --consolidate flag is now available to merge such graphs to get the
old behavior. As a side-effect, this flag also controls the highest
group-level of the nodes to be drawn, in place of the --group flag, which
was temporarily removed. The uniqueincludes project class, which has been
broken since 0.6, has been fixed, as was the calculation of edge weights.
A project is now made of a set of graphs, themselves connected as a graph,
representing the transformations used to produce them from the other
graphs. Most APIs changed consequently.

  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 05:22

Education
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Education :: Testing

About: LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning
content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared
content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional
boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It
has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class
using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a
one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.

Changes: This release resolves problems in locating Apache configuration
files and running the metadata compiler for SuSE and SLES installations.
Portfolio filenames with zero or multiple "." characters no longer cause
problems. Survey responses are not added to the grading queue. Metadata
caches are properly invalidated across the network on resource
republication.

About: Miredo is a Unix daemon program which implements the "Teredo:
Tunneling IPv6 over UDP through NATs" Internet draft specification. It can
serve either as a Teredo client, a stand-alone Teredo relay, or a Teredo

also limit download speeds and maximal requests per second for
virtualhosts, users, and remote clients.

Changes: A segmentation fault when cband-status is refreshing has been

  Thu, Feb 2nd 2006 13:37

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: mwcollect is an easy solution to collect worm-like malware in a
non-native environment like FreeBSD or Linux. The first versions were used
to collect binaries for botnet monitoring, and bots are still what it is
mostly collecting. Some people consider it a next generation honeypot;
however, that comparison often leads to the misunderstanding that

connections or SQL queries. It also allows you to approach your database
in an object-oriented fashion, thus giving you real flexibility. It uses
templates to generate code, so it is also possible to create your own
templates.

Changes: Various bugfixes were made in instantAdmin. A filter was added to

Games/Entertainment
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: The Z-machine Preservation Project is a Java implementation of the
Z-machine (Java version >= 5 is required) specification 1.0. This is a
Z-code interpreter that can be run either as a standalone application or
as an applet within a Web browser. It runs games created by Infocom as
well as those compiled with Inform. At the moment, story file versions 3,
4, 5, 7, and 8 are supported, including features such as save games
(Quetzal 1.4 format), undo, and timed input. The code is written using a
test-driven approach, which results in a very clean design and
implementation that can be easily understood, maintained, and extended.

Changes: This version is primarily interesting for users playing story
files in accented languages such as Swedish. It fixes an issue that
prevented the interpreter from correctly displaying and parsing story
files using custom alphabets.
