[001] - abcm2ps 4.12.14 (Development)
by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Tue, Apr 18th 2006 05:53
Printing
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: A few layout improvements were implemented.

Tue, Apr 18th 2006 23:46
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The mission of the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) project is to
create and maintain software libraries that provide a predictable and
consistent interface to underlying platform- specific implementations. The
primary goal is to provide an API to which software developers may code
and be assured of predictable if not identical behaviour regardless of
the platform on which their software is built, relieving them of the need
to code special-case conditions to work around or take advantage of
platform-specific deficiencies or features.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: Construct is a Python library for declaratively defining arbitrary
data structures, called "constructs". These constructs can both parse data
into an object or build an object into data. Constructs work at the
bit-level, so there are no issues with byte-alignment. It supports fields,
structs, unions, and repeaters; adapters and validators; switches,
pointers, and other meta-constructs, like TLVs. Many primitives are
provided, as well as an "inventory" of ready-made protocols and file
format parsers.
Changes: Bugs in AttrDict, ExceptionContainer, and demo1.py were fixed.
PaddedString, DNS inventory, and a toy network sniffer were added.
BytePadding, BytePointer, and IpStack were changed and the demos package
was removed.

programming within your C++ programs even without any additional
preprocessing, without all those calling conventions. You can write code
which is accepted by a C++ compiler while thinking in a "Lisp mode", and
the code you write will look much like Lisp code, although it will be pure
C++.

suggests the use of USE_READLINE=no (some people had troubles with it).

About: Ivman is a flexible userspace volume manager for Linux. Originally
an automounter, it can also be used to run arbitrary commands when certain
devices are added to or removed from the system, when properties on
existing devices change, or when devices emit conditions. Unlike
gnome-volume-manager, it runs from a console. It uses D-BUS and HAL to
listen for new devices, and uses pmount for mounting.
Changes: Automounting was fixed for HAL 0.5.7 or greater. The option to
process all rules in IvmConfigActions.xml when Ivman starts was added.

[031] - Java Parallel Processing Framework 0.14.0
by Laurent Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/lolocohen/)
Tue, Apr 18th 2006 06:15
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Java Parallel Processing Framework is a set of tools and APIs to
facilitate the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and
distribute their execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It is
intended to run in clusters and grids. It features platform independence
thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your application
classes to a server, scales up to thousands of nodes, has a built-in
fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.
Changes: The licensing terms were switched to the GNU Lesser General
Public License (LGPL). The core communication framework was refactored so
as to use non-blocking I/O, bringing more robustness, scalability, and a
performance gain of 10-15%. A bug was fixed in the admin tool, where the
task bundle size was not refreshed properly from the server. A bug was
fixed where, when a node was disconnected or crashed, its tasks were
resubmitted at the end of the queue, rather than the start, causing an
important performance hit.

computers. Over 40 editing functions include scaling, cropping,
quantization and dithering, colorizing and uncolorizing, blurring, and

multicast. Also, a client program makes it easy to export data to tools
like RRDtool, GNUPlot, Net-SNMP, MRTG, and Cacti.
Changes: AS numbers and IP addresses are no longer multiplexed into the
same field. A new SQL table version, v6, has been introduced in order to
support this new data model in all SQL plugins. Minor fixes to PostgreSQL
table schemas, v2 to v5; an alignment issue has been caught when the
etheraddr_string() gets called from count_src|dst_mac_handlers() in
sql_handlers.c. An issue with mask_elem() in server.c has been fixed: both
src|dst_net primitives were not (positively, i.e. copied back when
required) masked.

[071] - Stopmotion 0.5.0

Tue, Apr 18th 2006 13:27
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video
About: Stopmotion is an application for creating stop motion animations
from images imported from a v4l (or similar) device. The animations can be
saved as .sto files and exported as video files. Grabbing of images and
video export is plug-in based, so it is easy to use your favourite
programs such as mencoder, ffmpeg, dvgrab, and vgrabbj to do the job.
Changes: The application has been ported to Qt4, and support has been
added for getting output from stdout in a custom widget as well as typing
input to stdin. This release also has a French translation and an
experimental import option for dvgrab in the preferences menu. The
configure script is now based on autoconf, and detects if there are
missing libraries or something wrong. 'make install' and 'make uninstall'
work out of the box. The framebar and language handler are fully
refactored, and the way buffering of images is done is more efficient. The
paint routine in frameview has been optimized.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance description (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that represent
the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code. Compared to
APIs such as DOM and SAX, the generated code allows you to access the
information in XML instance documents using your domain vocabulary instead
of generic elements, attributes, and text. Static typing helps catch errors
at compile-time rather than at run-time. It features C++ standard
library-based language mappings, configurable base character type
(char/wchar_t), platform-independent generated code, comprehensive
documentation, and more.
Changes: An automatic handling of forward inheritance has been added. A
new enum mapping with support for inheritance has been implemented.
Support for back pointers to tree nodes from associated DOM nodes has been
added. Code size reducing optimizations have been performed. Specialization
for void as a hook argument type has been implemented. Support for reuse of
implementations of base parsers in derived parsers using the mix-in C++
idiom has been added.
