Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.
Changes: The API has been cleaned up and the documentation greatly
improved. The Reference Manual has been substantially rewritten, and there
is now a tutorial and an introductory technical paper.

[005] - Ascii2Binary 2.11
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Wed, Apr 19th 2006 14:38
Utilities
About: The Ascii2Binary project consists of two complementary programs
that convert between textual and binary representations of numbers.
Ascii2Binary reads input consisting of textual representations of numbers
separated by whitespace and produces as output the binary equivalents. It
is useful for generating test data and linking programs that generate
textual output to programs that require binary input. Binary2Ascii
converts binary numbers to text. In both programs, the type and
size/precision of the input or output is selected using command line
flags.
Changes: ascii2binary can now handle numbers with thousands separators. A
new command line flag has been added that sets the locale for the
LC_NUMERIC facet. In the case of ascii2binary, this determines what
character will be interpreted as the thousands separator. In the case of
binary2ascii, this controls thousands separation and decimal point. Among
other things, this means that a pipeline of ascii2binary followed by
binary2ascii can be used to convert numeric strings from one locale's
format to that of another. Flags have been added for suppressing thousands
separation and zero-padding.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: Atop is an ASCII full-screen performance monitor, similar to the
top command. At regular intervals, it shows system-level activity related
to the CPU, memory, swap, disks and network layers, and it shows for every
active process the CPU utilization in system and user mode, the virtual and
resident memory growth, priority, username, state, and exit code. The
process level activity is also shown for processes which finished during
the last interval, to get a complete overview about the consumers of
things such as CPU time. Atop only shows the active system-resources and
processes, and only shows the deviations since the previous interval.
Changes: This release added a new line with system-level counters related
to paging (including memory scans, swapin, and swapout). The effective
line speed in bits per second is now shown for all network interfaces. The
average utilization per second can also optionally be shown for most
counters. The output was improved and is easier to parse due to a fixed
number of values per line. The related kernel patch was ported to kernel
version 2.6.16.

[036] - KJam Build Tool 0.29
by rafael baptista (http://freshmeat.net/users/rafael_baptista/)
Wed, Apr 19th 2006 12:58
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: KJam is a build tool like make. It uses a syntax similar to Jam,
with more powerful features than the original Jam. It has built-in very
fast dependency scanning, per-target viewpathing, and C-like control flow.
It is optimized for multi-processor machines. It can accelerate building by
launching build actions on a distributed peer to peer network of build
servers. It is designed to support large projects with thousands of
targets, or projects requiring building on many target architectures.
Changes: KJam now comes with a set of built-in build rules which allow
users to set up C and C++ projects by writing a very simple Jamfile. The
documentation includes a Quick Start Guide to help get a project building
under KJam in just a few minutes. KJam can now be configured to reformat
all of its output to automatically wrap all text to the width of your
shell. This should make all of KJam's output, especially complex
multi-line error messages, much more readable.

About: 'mbridge' provides a bridge between LANs for multicast-announced
services. As an example, you can use it to share iTunes libraries outside
of your LAN with your peers. It works by querying for and listening to
announcements for instances of the desired service using the multicast DNS
(mDNS) service discovery protocol. Upon discovery of a new instance, it
announces itself as the provider for that service on all the other LANs.
It then acts as a proxy between the clients and the real server.

[064] - sg_utils and sg3_utils 1.20 (Linux 2.4)
by Douglas Gilbert (http://freshmeat.net/users/dpgilbert/)
Wed, Apr 19th 2006 23:14
About: sg_utils and sg3_utils are packages that contain tools for working
with devices that use the SCSI command set. They include variants of the
Unix dd command called sg_dd and sgp_dd that speed copies to, from, and
between SCSI disks and CDROMs. sg_map and sg_scan supply information about
SCSI devices and how they are related to other drivers. There are utilities
for timing and testing SCSI devices and retrieving mode and log page data.
The sg3_utils package is for the Linux 2.4 and 2.6 series, while sg_utils
is for the 2.2 series with some support for the 2.0 series.
Changes: The sg_dd, sgp_dd, sgm_dd, and sg_read utilities were cleaned up
and expanded. sg_scan and sg_map are now more robust when used with 2.6
kernels. SAS (SSP) support was improved. Various bugs were fixed.

language Scheme. It uses modern interpretation techniques and handily
outperforms all existing Java interpreters (often by more than an order of
magnitude). In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language.
The entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported. This includes a full number
tower including complex number support and arbitrary precision integers
and floating point numbers, proper tail recursion, hygienic macros, and
full support for first-class continuations (not just the escaping
continuations found in many other systems).
Changes: This release fixes some minor bugs in SRFIs and an unnecessary
dependency on Java 1.5 in the build process.

Scientific/Engineering
About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.
Changes: This release added arccsch[x] and arcsinh[x] inverse hyperbolic
functions. An optimization that recognizes more expressions, especially
those containing units of measure, as being constant and evaluating them
only once was added. This will allow some poorly-written programs to run
much faster. The ability to look in a standard library for files was
added.

[075] - Vintela OpenSSH 4.3p2q1
by Ted Percival (http://freshmeat.net/users/midg3t/)
Wed, Apr 19th 2006 23:22
Security
About: Vintela OpenSSH is a version of OpenSSH modified and packaged to
provide default single sign-on capability for Vintela customers using the
Vintela Authentication Service (VAS) and/ or Vintela Management eXtensions
(VMX) products. Vintela's version of OpenSSH defaults to authenticating
users via the GSSAPI-with-MIC mechanism, and authenticating hosts with
GSS-KEX. It works in conjunction with VAS, to allow secure shell single
sign-on to Unix hosts that have been joined to Active Directory domains.
Changes: This release is primarily a bugfix release and brings the source
in line with the upstream OpenSSH 4.3p2. It fixed problems with the user
credential cache being lost when pam_vas, keyboard-interactive, and
privsep were used, and public key authentication failures on Solaris.
Improvements include faster login on systems with many VAS-enabled groups
and GSSAPI auth being tried before public-key.
