by jart (http://freshmeat.net/users/jart/)
Thu, Apr 20th 2006 14:09
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. It removes ads, webbugs,
and popups. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely on a
list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects ads
using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in JavaScript engine
which detects popups and js-generated ads.
Changes: A bug that prevented DNS cache from working was fixed. The
process of connecting to servers is now more intelligent. BFilter now
detects and applies a workaround for cases when binary content is served
as text/plain. Ad filtering was improved.

[007] - ByteName 1.8
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Thu, Apr 20th 2006 22:33
Text Processing
About: ByteName is a tool that for each byte of the input prints a line
consisting of the byte offset, the byte in hex, octal, binary, and
decimal, and its description in a selected single-byte encoding. A command
line flag suppresses printing of lines corresponding to ASCII characters,
which is useful for locating stray non-ASCII codes. It can also generate a
chart for a specified encoding or, for a specified codepoint, generate
descriptions in all known encodings.
Changes: Ten additional encodings are supported: AtariST, Guarani Linux
Console, MS DOS CP860 (Portuguese), MS DOS CP861 (Icelandic/Nordic), MS
DOS CP862 (Hebrew), MS DOS CP863 (Canadian French), MS DOS CP864 (Arabic),
MS DOS CP865 (Nordic), MS DOS CP869 (Modern Greek), and MS Windows CP875

Thu, Apr 20th 2006 06:26
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: Expose is a PHP template engine. It supports server and
client-sided caching, a plugin system (to simplify common tasks like
inserting a date picker) and internationalization (to write templates in
multiple languages using external translation files). Unlike most template
engines, Expose's template script language is based on PHP itself, which
means you don't have to learn a new syntax. You can use most of the PHP
language elements and functions in the way with which you're familiar.
Changes: The Boolean "and" (&&) operator is now properly recognized.
Several array PHP functions are now registered at default. The first
newline after the close tag (?>) is now stripped like expected. The

[024] - GNU ddrescue 1.2 (Stable)
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Thu, Apr 20th 2006 14:25
System :: Recovery Tools
About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.
Changes: A new option "--complete-only" that instructs ddrescue not to
read new data beyond log file limits has been added. This version makes
the interval at which the logfile is saved to disk depend on log file
size, improving efficiency for very large log files. A new argument parser
that replaces "getopt_long" has been added.

Changes: A menu of buffers has been added. A new chapter "Basic concepts"
has been added to the manual. A buffer around "getch()" has been added to
speed up pastes. The efficiency of "append_record" has been improved for
consecutive overwrites. The efficiency of replaces has been improved,
especially consecutive ones. This release allows "reformat paragraph" to
be interrupted with Control-C. A bug has been fixed that showed some

About: The Hecl Programming Language is a high-level scripting language
implemented in Java. It is intended to be small, extensible, extremely
flexible, and easy to learn and use. It is intended as a complement to the
Java programming language, not a replacement. As such, it tries to do well
what Java doesn't, and leaves those tasks to Java for which it is best
suited. It is also easy to add Hecl to Java, or write new Hecl commands in
Java. It aims to be a very immediate language so that you can pick it up
and start doing useful things with it quickly. Of particular interest is
the fact that it's small enough to run on Java-enabled cell phones, so you
can quickly script applications for them!

Printing
About: Holodeck10 is a Java-based application that runs on Linux. The
purpose of the application is to allow the user to lay out images to be
printed. It supports the basic function that includes orientation
selection (LANDSCAPE or PORTRAIT), paper selection (NA_Letter or ISO_A4),
and layout (1x1, 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, 4x5, 6x8, and Custom). A file chooser is
used with a file filter to select image types of *.jpeg, *.jpg, *.gif,
*.xpm, and *.png. A printerjob is used to send the page to the printer.
Changes: This release has added support for ISO_A4 paper. A new combobox
has been added to the GUI to allow the selection of either NA_Letter of
ISO_A4 paper. The NA_Letter is the default paper. The print tracking now
only reports if the printerjob has been succesfully sent to the printer or
if an error has been encountered.

[033] - Java Interactive Profiler 1.0.4
by Andrew Wilcox (http://freshmeat.net/users/andrewbwilcox/)
Thu, Apr 20th 2006 08:07
Software Development :: Testing
About: The Java Interactive Profiler (JIP) is a code profiler for Java. It
features the ability to turn the profiler on and off at run time as well as
the capability to filter out classes and packages. These features make it
well suited for profiling Web applications.
Changes: A problem with counting object allocations was fixed. The problem
was that if you had a class where one constructor called another
constructor in the same class, the object allocation count for the class
would get incremented twice. The mechanism for instrumenting bytecode was
separated from the profiler itself. This makes it easy to use JIP to run
your own profiler (rather than the one that JIP ships with) without
needing to hack any code.

About: Luban is a component oriented scripting language. It was created to
be easier than Java and to feature namespaces and interfaces. It has a
simple and clean syntax and a property-based component model similar to
Java beans. A component can be a process or a composition. All data types
and components are saved in a namespace hierarchy. Thread dispatching and

inheritance, dynamic type checking, reflection, serialization, remote
component calls, exception free error handling, and an API to import data
new types from C++.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: mod_bt is a BitTorrent tracker for the Apache Web server. It is
written in C and runs as an Apache 2.x module. It is possible for mod_perl
or PHP to directly access the tracker's information; no need to download
and bdecode scrape URLs. The tracker is fully configured from within
Apache's own configuration file. The goal of mod_bt is to seamlessly
integrate Bram Cohen's BitTorrent protocol with Apache so that any
Webmaster who serves up large files can shift the burden of bandwidth onto
its clients with as little hassle as possible.
Changes: Apache::ModBT was moved to Apache2::ModBT to fit in with the
mod_perl2 API. The source tree was reworked to use automake and libtool.
The Perl modules' Makefile.PLs were fixed up. With an installed libbtt.so,
it should now be possible to install Perl modules directly from CPAN.
Another small change was made to libdb-4.2 detection. Three patches for
Fedora Core compatibility were applied. $(MAKE) is used in all makefiles
instead of make.

About: mpgedit is an MPEG 1 layer 1/2/3 (MP3), MPEG 2, and MPEG 2.5 audio
file editor that is capable of processing both Constant Bit Rate (CBR) and
Variable Bit Rate (VBR) encoded files. mpgedit can cut an input MPEG file
into one or more output files, as well as join one or more input MPEG
files into a single output file. Since no decoding or encoding occurs
during editing, there is no audio quality loss when editing with mpgedit.
mpgedit features command line, curses-based, and graphical interfaces. The
curses and graphical versions feature an interactive playback mode for fast
selection and verification of edit begin and end times.
Changes: This release fixes an occasional crash in xmpgedit when adjusting
the volume after playback has stopped. mpgedit playto start time is fixed,
which would play beyond the specified edit time in some circumstances. The

[060] - Query Object Framework 0.6.4
by Neil Williams (http://freshmeat.net/users/codehelp/)
Thu, Apr 20th 2006 08:26
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Information Management
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
About: QOF (Query Object Framework), provides a set of C Language
utilities for performing generic structured complex queries on a set of
data held by a set of C/C++ objects. This framework is unique in that it
does not require SQL or any database at all to perform the query. Thus, it
allows programmers to add query support to their applications without
having to hook into an SQL database.
Changes: A framework was added to allow the execution of SQL-type queries
using collections of in-memory objects as "tables". This release
implements adding a backend option to support other encodings of the XML
used by pilot-qof. gnc-engine-util was replaced with qofutil. Map handling
was improved.

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: The driver function tim_await (using seconds since 1970) was
replaced by timAwait (using the Gregorian calendar). The driver function
timNow was changed to deliver a timezone which includes the daylight
saving time. Various pictures were added in pic16.s7i and pic32.s7i. The
parse function for bitsets was fixed to work for empty sets. A new example
program, toutf8, was added to convert files to UTF-8. The windows driver
function drwPRect was fixed.

[064] - Seek & Destroy Music Duplicates 1.9
by igor tavcar (http://freshmeat.net/users/tigor/)
Thu, Apr 20th 2006 17:00
About: Seek & Destroy Music Duplicates is a tool for locating and removing
duplicated music files. It does not crash on corrupted files and normally
suggests the best song from amongst the duplicates. It uses an incremental
scanning strategy and uses relatively few system resources. MP3, Ogg, WMA,
and AAC formats are supported. It allows specified directories to be
excluded from the search, and the state of the scanner can be saved to
engage incremental scanning when the tool is used periodically. ID3 tag
and data comparators are supported. An XML report can be produced.
Duplicates are always moved to the destination folder and not deleted.
Changes: Tag comparison-related classes and algorithms have been
redesigned and reimplemented to get better performance. Loose tag
comparison speed has increased about 17 times.

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In

preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.
