[005] - Dnsmasq 2.29
by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
Sat, Apr 22nd 2006 11:38
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.
Changes: This release addresses a few problems in the 2.28 version.
Compilation problems under OpenBSD are fixed. Netlink permission problems
with certain Linux kernel configurations have been worked around. See the
FAQ for the changes needed to fix the problem. Spurious "interface not
found" errors at startup were fixed. The SuSE RPM builds again. Upgrading
from 2.28 is only needed if one or more of these problems are encountered.

[019] - LibAran 0.2.0
by Pierre Gay (http://freshmeat.net/users/peyo/)
Sat, Apr 22nd 2006 22:22
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: LibAran is a 2D/3D Fast Multipole Method software library. It
provides a C API to allow developers to use such algorithms in their own
applications.
Changes: A new sparse (O(p^3)) translation operator for 3D spherical
series was introduced. This operator is based on spherical harmonics
rotation and has several advantages over the former one (kkylin). The
implementation is slightly faster for the new operator. It is somewhat
more general since it can easily be applied on most spherical harmonics
based potential expansions. It's also a prerequisite for the even more
efficient plane wave approximation operators.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries
About: libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of
arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the

[030] - Pinot 0.46
by Fabrice Colin (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinf/)
Sat, Apr 22nd 2006 02:54
About: Pinot is a metasearch tool built around the Xapian Information
Retrieval library, the language guessing functionality of libtextcat and
the GTKmm toolkit. It enables one to query search engines and display as
well as analyze and locally index the returned results. Supported sources
are search plugins, the Google SOAP API and Xapian indexes. Supported
document types include plain text, HTML, PDF, RTF, MS Word, XML,
OpenDocument/StarOffice, mbox, MP3, and Ogg Vorbis. Its goals are to make
Web search engines easily available to end users and to harness Xapian to
index the user's personal documents. Pinot is moving towards what Beagle
and Kat do, while still retaining a focus on metasearch.
Changes: Pinot can now be built against Mozilla or Firefox. There are new
tokenizers available for MP3, Vorbis, and FLAC files (with a dependency on
the TagLib library) and XML and OpenDocument/StarOffice files. Xdgmime is
now used to query the shared-mime-info database for better MIME type
detection. Support for the Google API was resurrected (the gsoap
development toolkit is required) and the extraction of results' extract
and URL was tweaked. A bug that would cause a crash when indexing search
results while the My Documents tab isn't opened was fixed.

RDF/XML, N-Triples, and Turtle and via RSS tag soup: XML RSS, Atom 0.3,
and Atom 1.0. The serializers support RDF/XML (3 flavours), N-Triples, RSS
1.0, and Atom 1.0. Raptor handles RDF/XML as used by RDF applications such
as RSS 1.0, FOAF, DOAP, Dublin Core, and OWL. It can use either expat or
libxml2 for XML parsing, libcurl when available for URI retrieval, and is
portable to many POSIX systems.
Changes: A tutorial was added covering using Raptor for parsing and
serializing RDF with examples. The reference manual was completed to cover
100% of the public API. The rapper utility can now pretty-print RDF
syntaxes. The Turtle parser gained boolean literals. Requests for content
now send appropriate "Accept:" headers. Raptor no longer requires libxml2
for the rss-tag-soup parser. Many other fixes and improvements were made.

[033] - rdup 0.2.8
by Miek Gieben (http://freshmeat.net/users/miek/)
Sat, Apr 22nd 2006 01:00
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: rdup is a utility inspired by rsync and the Plan9 way of doing
backups. rdup itself does not backup anything; it only prints a list of
the names of files that have changed since the last backup. Auxilary
scripts are needed to act on this list and implement the backup strategy.
This way rdup can be kept lean and mean.
Changes: Minor bugs were fixed in all shell scripts.

by Mezcalero (http://freshmeat.net/users/poettering/)
Sat, Apr 22nd 2006 06:32
About: Syrep is a generic file repository synchronization tool. It can be
used to synchronize large file hierarchies bidirectionally by exchanging
patch files. It is truely peer-to-peer and does not require a central
server. Synchronization between more than two repositories is supported,
and patch files can be transferred via offline media such as removable
hard drives or compact disks.
Changes: This release tries harder not to lose any files when resuming a
canceled merge operation, doesn't report an error when merging an existing
file and the user chooses not to replace it, and updates the origin field
when updating an existing snapshot locally which originates from a
different host.
