Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking
About: aircrack-ng is a set of tools for auditing wireless networks. It's
an enhanced/reborn version of aircrack. It consists of airodump (an 802.11
packet capture program), aireplay (an 802.11 packet injection program),
aircrack (static WEP and WPA-PSK cracking), airdecap (decrypts WEP/WPA
capture files), and some tools to handle capture files (merge, convert,
etc.).
Changes: In airmon-ng, madwifi-ng was fixed with regard to VAP
creation-destruction and a cosmetic problem. A compilation problem under
Mac OS X was fixed for aircrack-ng. Elapsed time was added to airodump-ng.
A Mac OS X makefile (Makefile.osx) was added. The patch for madwifi-ng
r1520 and higher was updated.

About: Apophenia is an open statistical library. It provides functions on
the same level as those of the typical stats package (such as OLS, probit,
or singular value decomposition) but doesn't tie the user to an ad hoc
language or environment. The core functions are written in C, but are
designed to be easy to bind to functions in Perl/Python/C. It supports
SQLite databases, exponentially expanding the upper limit to manageable
data sets. Since the library is significantly faster than most stats
packages, computationally-intensive procedures like maximum likelihood
estimation and Monte Carlo routines are easy to implement.

About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
environment in which server protocol handlers can be eventually loaded and
unloaded on the fly using a center console or controller Web page. It aims
to have 99.9% uptime, and have high-availability (Java 6) compliance. It
is written in Java 5, and relies completely on Java's I/O functionality to
provide non-blocking support for both SSL and non-SSL sockets
(transparently). All configuration is done via XML files, as this is
easier to maintain. It includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.

[008] - cb2Bib 0.6.1
by constans (http://freshmeat.net/users/constans/)
Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 20:29
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting unformatted bibliographic
references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. It
facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted sources.
References are written in BibTeX. A PDF file with the article text, if
available, can be easily linked and renamed by dragging it onto the
cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can later retrieve,
import, and display these BibTeX references.
Changes: The PDFImport tool has been rewritten. It had some bugs related
to copy/rename/move of processed files. The cb2Bib now only performs these
file operations once a reference is accepted, e.g. once the save button is
pressed. This avoids accidental movings and permits user intervention.
This includes file downloading. In addition, multiple 'title' keywords in
regular expressions will concatenate the captions, to accommodate cases of
the form 'Title: Subtitle'. No menu entry is provided, however, as it is
for the more usual cases 'Add Authors' and 'Add Editor'.

Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Charles is a Web debugging tool, HTTP monitor, and reverse HTTP
proxy for Web developers that includes plain text debugging of HTTPS/SSL.
It is built in Java Swing, and runs on all Java platforms. It is an HTTP
proxy server that displays requests and responses, complete with HTTP
headers. This enables the developer to examine the exact content of HTTP
exchanges, including cookies, caching, and redirects. It can also throttle
your connection in order to simulate modem conditions. It is a valuable
tool for all Web developers and is especially useful for debugging XML
RCP, SOAP, Web services, AJAX/XMLHTTP, and Macromedia Flash client-server
traffic including AMF, AMF 3, LoadVars, and XML Sockets.
Changes: Major new features include AMF 3 / Flash Remoting / Flex 2
support, SOCKS proxy support, and external proxy authentication. Major
improvements have been made to the Firefox proxy configuration, XML

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Database
About: Decimail is a mail server supporting IMAP and SMTP that uses a
PostgreSQL database to store messages. Mailboxes are defined using SQL
queries, allowing complex client-independent automatic message filtering
and categorisation. For example you can partition your messages
chronologically, by correspondent and by mailing list at the same time
with each message appearing in several mailboxes. There is also the
potential for fast keyword searching and to link with address book
applications. Decimail also features anti-spam processing of outgoing

Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 13:14
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.
Changes: This release contains a single bugfix for a problem introduced by

Software Development :: Testing
About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric

by Dan Stromberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/strombrg/)
Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 17:58
About: fallback-reboot is a last resort, when you need to remotely reboot
a computer. It attempts to maximize its ability to get the job done by
completely avoiding touching the hard disk; it opens no files, and it
locks itself into memory to avoid swapping/paging. It also does not fork
or exec. It includes optional cryptography.
Changes: gen-pas uses the python random module now, not whrandom, which is
deprecated. Compilation prefers tcc -b if available, because that will do
buffer overflow checking (although there are probably none in the code).

Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 17:59
Software Development :: Libraries
About: InteLib is a library of C++ classes which lets you do Lisp
programming within your C++ programs even without any additional
preprocessing, without all those calling conventions. You can write code
which is accepted by a C++ compiler while thinking in a "Lisp mode", and
the code you write will look much like Lisp code, although it will be pure
C++.
Changes: Some new package-related features are implemented, and the GNU
readline autodetection has been fixed.

System :: Monitoring
About: Intelligent Filesystem Guard is a tool that monitors information
about changes in files and directories. This program can be used either
for the detection of changes in important files (as an intrusion detection
system guarding data against viruses and Trojan horses) or for guarding
user data. A large emphasis is put on monitoring files. One of the
functions of this system is to tell what happened with the file according
to a user query. The system is able to warn of any sort of change, such as
modification, creation, erasure, or movement.
Changes: This is a major feature enhancement release with a rewritten
core.

[033] - kds 0.2.0
by krico (http://freshmeat.net/users/krico/)
Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 12:51
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: kds (krico's distributed storage) is a distributed storage system.
Its main goal is to work as a session handler for PHP. This package
provides four components: a daemon (kdsd), a command-line cilent (kdsc), a
library (libkds), and a PHP session handler extension. kdsd is a daemon
that uses worker threads to process KDSPROTO requests. It then retreives
or stores data in a BerkeleyDB storage. A nice little curses program is
also supplied to monitor the storage state.
Changes: User-based storage to enable multiple systems with one daemon.
BerkeleyDB transactions are now used to grant ACID operations on
databases. Database checkpoints and log removals are performed
automatically. Uses poll instead of select to avoid the 1024 file
descriptor limit. Uses mmap when large amounts of data are requested so
that file mapped memory is used to avoid using all available memory.

by Tobias Buchloh (http://freshmeat.net/users/tbuchloh/)
Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 21:25
Security
Security :: Cryptography
About: KisKis (Keep It Secret! Keep It Safe!) is an easy-to-use password
manager. It allows the user to manage passwords for many different
purposes, including network or Internet accounts, credit-card pin-numbers,
and password-secured files. The accounts can be grouped hierarchically
within a tree structure. Each account can be described by multiple
attributes (such as user name or URL), file attachments, and comments. The
history of each password change can be tracked. All passwords are stored in
a single XML file using OpenPGP messages.
Changes: Templates can be imported from other files. When creating a new
group, the cursor should be set to the "Label" field. The
"Zuweisen"/"Apply" button sometimes didn't work, and has been fixed. The
File dialog no longer needs a double click to select a file from the

About: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat and mpstat,
commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity
information. The sadf command may be used to display data collected by sar
in various formats (XML, database-friendly, etc.). The iostat command
reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The
mpstat command reports global and per-processor statistics. The
information collected by sar can be saved in a file in a binary format for
future inspection. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer
rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network
activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel
activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP and SMP machines are
fully supported.
Changes: Incorrect NFS client and server statistics were fixed for sar.
Sar can now display stats for newly created processes when option -x ALL
or -X ALL is used. Iostat -x was displaying redundant information. It now
displays the amount of data read from or written to devices in sectors,

[066] - TunaPie 0.9.5 (Stable)
by James Stone (http://freshmeat.net/users/lunadog/)
Sun, Apr 23rd 2006 18:01
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video
About: TunaPie is a directory browser for Internet radio and TV streams.
At present, it uses the shoutcast server, but compatibility with other
services is planned. Tunapie allows you to search for streams and then
launch your audio player (XMMS) or NSV viewer (Mplayer) of choice. It also
allows recording of audio and video streams using streamripper.
Changes: A fix to allow tunapie to work with the new Shoutcast directory
system. The radio search function now contacts the server to give a wider
variety of channels. Warning: this will overwrite your old favorites file,
so back it up (~/.tunapie/favorites).
