[001] - 4tH compiler 3.5a-pre2 (Development)
by HanSoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/hansoft/)
Sun, Jun 18th 2006 08:28
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports over
85% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, recursion, include files,
etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler,
C-source generators, and a virtual machine.
Changes: The word FORGET has been renamed to HIDE. The word AKA is
supported now. When closing a stream, the associated channel is only
reverted to the default stream if the closed stream was current. There are
some minor changes and additions to the library and the example programs.
The Error Guide has been added to the manual.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. It has completely new
design concept from its predecessor, Aria, and is written from scratch.
aria2 has a segmented downloading engine in its core. It can download one
file from multiple URLs or multiple connections from one URL. This results
in very high speed downloading, much faster than ordinary browsers. This
engine in was implemented in a single-thread model. The architecture is
clean and easy to extend. aria2 currently supports HTTP, FTP, and
BitTorrent.

[004] - Asymptote 1.07
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
Sun, Jun 18th 2006 21:43
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Contour algorithms and slope fields were implemented. The palette
and flowchart routines were improved. The arrow size code was fixed. Bugs
in makepen were fixed. Image and shading functions now respect the -gray,
-rgb, -cmyk, and -bw options. Date arithmetic routines were added. The
"public" keyword is now the default permission. The new "restricted"
keyword makes variables readable but not writeable outside the structure
in which they are defined. A work-around for the broken gv-3.6.1
command-line options was implemented. Asymptote is now part of the Fedora
Core Extras project.

[028] - Kernel Mode Linux 2.6.17_001 (For Linux 2.6)
by Toshiyuki Maeda (http://freshmeat.net/users/tosh/)
Sun, Jun 18th 2006 10:30
System :: Operating System Kernels
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: Kernel Mode Linux is a technology which enables the execution of
user programs in a kernel mode. In Kernel Mode Linux, user programs can
access kernel address space directly. Unlike kernel modules, user programs
are executed as ordinary processes (except for their privilege level), so
scheduling and paging are performed as usual. Although it seems dangerous,
the safety of the kernel can be ensured through such methods as static type
checking, software fault isolation, and so forth.
Changes: A subtle bug in handling the code segment selector on AMD-64 was
fixed. This version has been merged with the 2.6.17 Linux kernel.

Changes: A compilation fix was made for GNU C++ 3.4 and later. The last
obstacle in the way of making the library really platform-independent was
removed by implementing the select/poll interrupter via usual
TCP-connection and tools that are already present in the library.

huge number of wireless devices. The Mobile Device Information project
allows users to search for individual devices, or devices that meet
certain criteria, e.g. "Which Nokia phones are MIDP-2.0 enabled and
support at least 65536 colours?"
Changes: A bug was introduced in 1.2 with the addition of the "id"

About: parlement is a threaded forum and a mailing list, and also a voting
system where every one can propose, vote, or delegate their vote (a
delegation being for one post/mail/poll and its sub-threads). This results
in a mix of Direct and Participative Democracy, a Web board where any sort
of structured content can be democratically written: laws, constitutions,
newspapers, petitions, even blogs. Trust can be built through: PGP
signatures so that data can not be tampered with, P2P servers where the
posts/email messages/polls are replicated, and electoral lists to compute
the results.
Changes: Voting is now done using buttons that point down and up. Clicking
