Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or HP
value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe it's
the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

[001] - abcm2ps 4.12.21 (Stable)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Fri, Jun 30th 2006 04:55

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Some layout bugs were fixed.

[003] - anyfs-tools 0.84.4
  by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
  Fri, Jun 30th 2006 15:33

System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.

Changes: Warnings when compiling were cleaned up. In anyfs-driver, all
instances of [kv]malloc/[kv]free were changed to any_malloc/any_free. This
fixes the bug with not according vfree to vmalloc or kfree to kmalloc. Some
bugs in text_files_descr.c were fixed. By default, anysurrect recovers
ASCII text with any line feed symbols (not just Unix "\n" as before, but
also Mac "\r" and DOS "\r\n"). There is an ebuild for Gentoo.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Restlet is a framework that brings the simplicity and efficiency of
the REST architectural style to Java developers. It is composed of two
parts, the Restlet API (alternative to Servlet API) and a reference
implementation (Noelios Restlet Engine). It supports all REST concepts
(resource, representation, data, connector, components, etc.) and is
suitable for both client and server REST applications. The server
connectors provided are HTTP(S), AJP (via Mortbay's Jetty or an adapter
Servlet) and the client connectors are HTTP(S), JDBC, and SMTP(S).

Changes: attachPath() has been renamed to attachRouter() in RouterBuilder.
All tutorial code snippets have been updated. The dependency of the API on
NRE in ReferenceList and RestletContainer has been removed. A bug in
TunnelFilter has been fixed (see issue 68). The code source has been
restructured to split the "source/main" directory into "source/api" and
"source/core". NRE Javadocs have been split into NRE Core Javadocs and NRE
Extensions Javadocs.

About: Scheme2Js is an efficient Scheme to Javascript compiler. Scheme2Js
is not completely R5RS compliant, but features partial tail-rec recursion,
variable argument functions, symbols, lists, and macros. However, it lacks
(among other things) continuations and exact numbers.

Changes: This release concentrates on bugfixes. The tail-rec optimization
was broken for multiple tail-calls to the same target. Cadr/cdar/caddr/...
were broken when used as closures. Strings, vectors, and lists were
incorrectly constant-propagated (and hence duplicated). Empty vectors

System
System :: Boot
System :: Installation/Setup

About: slakbootIBS (Slackware Interactive Boot Scripts) is an enhanced set
of replacement boot scripts for the Slackware Linux distribution. It
includes a set of control and dispatch tools for configuring and booting
with colorized interactive scripts. The new boot process allows the
operator to select or skip start-up components in realtime. It facilitates
debugging of startup problems and allows operators to maintain a common
baseline to support several local configurations or multiple servers with
a single set of scripts.

Changes: This release adds more reliability fixes that affect ethernet-up
when establishing a broadband DHCP connection. The rc.mysql script now
conforms to the convention: rc.script start|stop|restart and can display
errors more clearly. It is now possible to disable boot time messages by

[051] - SMS Server Tools 2.2.3
  by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
  Fri, Jun 30th 2006 07:34

About: The SMS Server Tools (smstools) were made to send and receive SMS
from one or many GSM modems. They include a send/receive daemon and some
sample scripts to build an SMS email gateway and for logging into an SQL
database. The daemon waits for files in an outgoing spool directory and
sends them. It puts all received SMS in an incoming spool directory, and
can call any external program for incoming or outgoing notification. This
software support text messages in 7 and 16 bits (UCS2), as well as 8 bit
binary messages.

placeholders with values, the modem handler crashed sporadically after
receiving a short message, and the program did not set the UDH flag
properly in concatenated messages.

[057] - The GNU Privacy Guard 1.4.4
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Fri, Jun 30th 2006 07:35

Security :: Cryptography

About: GnuPG (the GNU Privacy Guard or GPG) is GNU's tool for secure
communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to
create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility
and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described
in RFC2440. As such, it is meant to be compatible with PGP from NAI, Inc.
Because it does not use any patented algorithms, it can be used without
any restrictions.

Changes: User IDs are now capped at 2048 bytes to avoid memory allocation
attacks (as reported in CVE-2006-3082). Support for the SHA-224 hash has
been added for better DSS compatibility. Support for the latest update to
DSA keys and signatures has been added, allowing for larger keys than 1024
bits and hashes other than SHA-1 and RIPEMD/160.

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

[063] - UPPAAL DBM Library 2.0.5
  by Alex (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexandredavid/)
  Fri, Jun 30th 2006 10:36

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Difference Bound Matrices (DBMs) are efficient data structures to
represent clock constraints in timed automata. They are used in UPPAAL as
the core data structure to represent time. This library features all the
common operations such as up (delay, or future), down (past), general
updates, different extrapolation functions, etc. on DBMs and federations.
The library also supports subtractions and methods to merge DBMs.

Changes: Bugs have been fixed in getValuation and mergeReduce, and doxygen
comments have been corrected. New methods have been added to the API: Hooks
to mingraph_t, hasZero to test if DBMs (or federations) contain the zero
point, delay for points, and toString. The structure partition_t has been
drastically improved. The operations subtractions, intersections, and
"mergeReduce" have been substantially improved. There is a new print
format of DBMs and federations to be more compatible with the Ruby
binding. index_t has been renamed to cindex_t due to a conflict on
Solaris.

[072] - Zatacka 0.1.6
  by mage (http://freshmeat.net/users/mage2/)
  Fri, Jun 30th 2006 04:57

Games/Entertainment

About: Zatacka is clone of the classic DOS game Achtung die Kurve. You
maneuver a line and must sidetrack the lines of other players (and, of
course, hit no walls). When one player dies, the survivor gets one point.
Whomever survives longest wins the round. One game has eleven rounds.

Changes: The score was detached from the game field, so lines can't hit it
any more. At the end of each game, a "game over" label is displayed and you
have the choice to play again with the same configuration or return to the
menu. Some code cleanup was also done.
